PlayStation 2

You know they made an edition of Bully for the PS3 and 360 that had a few more extras in it?

I know about 360 version but there's no PS3 version that I'm aware of. I know it's been released for Wii too and I wanted to buy it but controls would probably be unbearable with the Wiilot and buying a standard controller for Wii would cost me as much as buying a PS2.

I bought these so far:

GTA: San Andreas
GTA: Vice City
GTA III
Max Payne
Max Payne 2
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
True Crime: Streets of LA
Headhunter
The Godfather
Simpsons Hit & Run
Red Dead Revolver
Gran Turismo 4
Mafia
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Hitman Contracts
Hitman: Blood Money
The Getaway
Canis Canem Edit
Scarface
Splinter Cell

21 games for a total of £74. Probably 300+ hours of gaming if I wanted to complete them all.

Now time to buy an LCD, and then pick it all up on Tuesday - hopefully they will deliver the games by then (I've ordered from three different stores). I don't think I'm going to leave my bed next weekend.

Where can I buy a PS2 for the lowest price possible?

I wouldn't mind going on a nostalgia trip with some of my old games.

Now I'm hearing that the PS2 games look really, really bad on LCD/Plasma sceen and that's what I intend to buy for my bedroom, would I be better off playing those games on an old CRT TV? Does anyone know it really?

As for cheap PS2s, try ebay.

I want to get that Robot Wars game that was on the PS2 in the early 2000s. I used to love it. I blame Dave showing Robot wars.

Try it on whatever tvs you have first. Then if its shite buy a cheap tv that isn't the same type as whatever you've got.

Won't be much of a trouble since I'm buying an LCD or a plasma anyway, and if it looks poor I will simply use it in the other room where I have an old Sony Triniton that played my PS2 games fine back in the days.

I think this ones long dead and buried to be honest, my friend gave it to me for my collection and said he's tried all the ways to get it going. It's one of the original models I think the "core" or something like that.

I'll have a go at getting it working though cause I was actually thinking of buying a new 360 for Fable 3.

ya know whats wrong with it? run the diagnostics anyway and check the code here:

Xbox 360 Error Code

I had that! Bloody great game, you got to build your own robot. My favourite levels were the one on the oli rig and the one on the roof where the glass would smash in the middle. Good times.

Sarni, you shouldn't have bothered with Mafia, the loading times will drive you absolutely nuts. A good PC game, a shite console one.

It cost me £1 or £2, and I'll eat nachos during loadings so I'll be fine. I'm more bothered with the LCD/Plasma thing, apparently component will make games look better but some of them may be unbearable on a big screen. It's literally driving me nuts at the minute because it can ruin my plan.

I've got my PS2 plugged into my 42" plasma, and some of the games are pretty bad. Final Fantasy XII is horrific to look at so i have to play that on a smaller TV. Okami is another that looks off, oddly Final Fantasy X looks fine.

Oddly i've not got most of the games you have there, i had them in the past but they're long gone. I could give the GTA's a whirl now if you want me to give you some feedback?

And True Crime was a fun game, maybe not the best and driving was awkward but fun nonetheless.

Would be good if you could test GTA for me, thanks. Do you connect with a component cable? I've been hearing that there isn't much difference now because only a few PS2 games support progressive scan.

Yeah i'm using component, San Andreas looks fine (dated though, can't believe how far this sort of stuff has come seeing as i was blown away by this and things like Enslaved now get a "meh" reaction off me).

The opening of GTA 3 brings back memories of playing this at my dads and him laughing his head off about Pets Overnight.com, was it wrong of him to let a 14 year old and his 11 year old brother play these games?
Anyway i digress. Now this may not make sense but GTA 3 looks so much better than San Andreas on a big screen, it looks brilliant!
Everything is much sharper and even though the guys shoulders look way out of proportion i can see all the little details (posters on walls and such) much better than in San An, plus there's chatterbox and the original GTA song which never gets old.

Vice City just loading up, this has the longest load time of the lot (but that might be the disc getting on a bit, it is 8 years old now). Vice City looks just like i remember it, slightly blurry round the edges when you're moving but looks pretty sharp when you're standing still.

So to sum up, GTA 3 looks sharp as a tack, Vice City is slightly blurry round the edges, and San Andreas looks the worse of the three. Not what i was expecting, oh and VRock and the adverts are still amazing (I'll cry when i'm done killing).

They were my favourite levels too. I think only because on the oil rig you could push them in the sea and on the roof you could either push them through the middle or off the edge. Easiest way to win.

I do remember creating basically the same robot every time I played though. Some wedge shaped thing that was really fast and had a flipper. I basically discovered that if timed correctly, speeding into the other robot and pressing the weapon button made sure it ended up upside down.

Thanks! So better than I expected, people were telling me that it's barely playable but from what so you say they're not that bad on the eye, and none of these games support progressive scan so other titles will look equal at least. As for GTA3 being better looking, it's older but has a much smaller city to deal with so they could put more details in it, San Andreas is huge and therefore had to be limited. At least that's what I consider a reasonable explanation.

Now I can buy a plasma/LCD and not worry about it at all. :) I know I'm in for a little shock when it comes to graphics but seeing as I enjoy my games on PSP which has worse graphics than PS2, and I used to play Deluxe Ski Jump less than two years ago - and it has no graphics whatsoever, I should be fine.

Just looking at the software figures, and more than 1.5bn PS2 games have been sold, 0.5bn games since the launch of PS3 in 2006, that's 150m more than the PS3 has sold in the same time span.

Console is a monster!

In countries like Poland it's still more affordable to most people when you can get a brand new one with two games for £100. It makes a good gift for kids as well because they won't notice the lack of good graphics that much, so plenty of people buy it for Christmas and birthdays. Besides it has a great library of games and lack of backwards compatibility in new PS3 models probably increases its sales as well, I wouldn't buy it obviously if I could play any of PS2 games on PS3 but now that I cannot I consider PS2 as a great option because of all the great games that have been released. It's probably got good 50 games that I should play while PS3 only has 15 to 20 that appeal to me honestly and I've already completed half of them (still haven't completed GTA4 or some other great titles that I have on my shelf though!).

Can't wait for Tuesday to come!

It's a beast that's for sure, probably the best library of games of any console (considering it's BC with PS1 games as well).
