Players we should buy...

and certainly isn't now.. Nesta went for 25, Crespo for 16m and Canna for 14.. so i doubt whether cisse would cost more than 16million.. he's a great talent, but by no means tested at the very top.

Ah but Trez is rated 40m ;) ;)

OUT:

Veron: £20m
Giggs: £20m
Forlan: £5m
Fortune: £3m
Chadwick: £1.5m
Blanc: Free
Silvestre: Seemingly leaving on a free
= £49.5m

IN:

Lovenkrands: £8
Cisse / Ronaldinho: £20m (depending on system)
Joaquin / Van Der Vaart: £20m = £48m
Lizarazu: Free (sort term replacement) or
Sorin: Calling in the Lazio debt

I think we these players the team could look like this:

Barthez

Lizarazu/Sorin Ferdinand O'Shea Brown

Van Der Vaart/ Keane Scholes Beckham
Joaquin

Ronaldinho/Cisse Van Nistelrooy

Subs:

Ricardo
Neville G
Butt
Lovenkrands
Solksjaer

ok..ill indulge in a wee bit of fantasy too..

out (in the summer):
May, free
Chadwick 2.5m
Blanc, retired
Veron 15m
Fortune 3.5m (we'll not get 5 or him)
I also wouldnt be surprised if Fergie sold one of the more established big names..

bringing in 21m (at least)

In:
Finnan (4m) (RB)
Escude (4.2m) (LB)
Diop (4m)(DM)
Matty Taylor (2m) (LB\LM)
Little (2m) (RM)
Cissee (18m) (FW)

that would be cover for most positions, and i believe we will have to pay roughly the same amount it took to get RVN to capture Cissee.
Before anyone asks, Matty Taylor is a kid playing down at Portsmouth, 19 or 20 years old. Can play LB or LM much in the same way as Lee Sharpe. Will be an England player sooner or later. I also think he would be a better alternative than wayne Bridge.
Im also a big fan of Glenn Little at Burnley. Again hes only mid twenties, big (about 6ft2), strong, quick, good crosser and a good dribbler. Has a bit of an attitude sometimes but SAF could handle him. Watch him play against United in the Worthington cup to see what you make of him.
Diop would be a great signing for the central midfield area. Again, in the vein of most african players, hes big, strong quick and good in the air.
The merrits of Finnan, Escude & Cissee have been discussed on here before in great detail so ill not ramble on about them..

I gave him 7m cos you combined him with another player to make 15 so I just divided it up. As for Cisse, certainly pre-WC he would be 30m as he's the most sought after striker in Europe right now. Not sure what his price would be now, but if its us who's buying, then I doubt he'd be less than Rio.

I would be shocked if Cisse would go for more than 20m. After all, he still has only proven himself in France. He's got a tremendous upside, but the lack of experience in a big time European league will keep his price between 15-18m imo.

All realistic transfer targets imo.

I dont believe Mexes is a realistic target anymore, especially since the emergence of O'Shea.
If O'Shea had not come through i expect Fergie would have went with Ferdinand/Brown combo long-term and anyone brought in would be 3rd choice, which im sure Mexes wouldnt be too amused at.

Well, I compromised and said maybe over £20m on my report. But with so many clubs chasing him, a bidding war will put his price up imo.

Yes but the transfer market is in the gutter at the moment. Only us and Real are spending big money on players. I think he'll go for less than expected.

Cisse would be the ideal choice for a striker, not too established as yet, so wouldn't get in too much of a Huff when left on the bench every now and then. For the other players required, two quality full backs. People don't see the lack of cover coming into the middle from our current full backs. Bridge is an excellent defender and would be ideal, as for right back, Wes is the best we've got, let him play there with O'Shea and Rio in the centre.
Sell Veron, he won't perform consisently, and buy Duff, quality and works hard, he'll keep Giggs on his toes to.

[QB]Why not Benoît Pedretti ? I haven't heard he's a United target, but if I was Fergie, I would try to get him. He's a young and talented defensive midfielder who plays for Sochaux. He has just been called in the French team to replace Patrick Vieira. The City game has once more shown that we lacked cover for Keane and Butt when they're injured. At 22, he stil young enough to accept to be a sub, particularly in a club like United.

[QB]

Never seen the guy play, but he sounds an interesting prospect from the description. I mean, anyone who gets into the French squad has got to be very good.

him and tweetie in the same team maybe with our gary's brother we'd be known as Shrunkenheads United, and that cant be good.

The fascination with Lovenkrands is baffling to me.

He's a good player. He can play up front or on the wings and thats the type of player we need. Could solve many of our problems for a relatively small price. He's quite fast and can shoot and head. Young and full of promise, otherwise clubs like Milan and Juve wouldnt be mentioned as scouting him.

hmmm..Then give me one Cisse and one Duff. :D

I'd shop Veron, Fotune, and Chadwick and replace them with the likes of Lovenkrands, Van Der Vaart, and Kaka. In the case of Lovenkrands and Kaka, we could get them on the cheap (less than 15m combined). We almost certainly need at least one big name striker in the summer as well. Obviously Cisse fits the role perfectly.

Add Forlan and Blanc unfotunatly gone next year.
;)

forlan will not be gone i'm sure. he's our 4th striker, not our 3rd. we havent got a 3rd striker at the mo.
blanc will finally retire leaving us with 3 CBs - i wonder if we will buy agin for CB. I would go for Ayala in the summer as he has the experience to take over Larry's mentoring role (and be a CL winner quite possibly by then)and he'll be on a free- we cant do with all our CBs being under 25 surely?
this would see us OK for the next 2-3 years.
