Any combo of the following would do nicely.

Cisse :D
Van Der Vaart
Lovenkrands
Mexes
Kaka
Duff

All realistic transfer targets imo.

is Mutu good enough?

I seriously doubt we don't have money to spend, especially when the club's future is at stake. We could easily buy any two of the players listed.

All the hints coming out of OT, particularly at the AGM, is that there isn't any big money left to spend - we'll have to sell to buy.

I'd shop Veron, Fotune, and Chadwick and replace them with the likes of Lovenkrands, Van Der Vaart, and Kaka. In the case of Lovenkrands and Kaka, we could get them on the cheap (less than 15m combined). We almost certainly need at least one big name striker in the summer as well. Obviously Cisse fits the role perfectly.

they had a bloke from a french football mag on talksport last night and he confirmed cisse did say that about united

What were those hints? Have a look at the balance sheet, and you'll see there's plenty of ££££ left to spend.

IMO most club would love to inflate the prices when United come knocking.

So thats:
OUT
Veron 15m
Fortune 5m
Chadwick 2m
Total 22m
IN
Lovenkrands (who the feck is he?) 7m
Kaka 8m
Cisse 30m
Total 45m
Net 23m

Thats a big spend, and and leaves us really bad on the wings, or are you promoting the kids in this scenario?

that his heart belongs to manchester united and would join them when his team is out of the europe, and this was on radio not some made up stuff

but the bloke said liverpool are also on his trail

agree with 2 but keep smith as far away as pos

If we're to get Cisse, then a big name would have to leave, and we'd somehow have to replace that player too - with youth or another cheap player.

why cisse will go for 18-20mil tops

I can understand why people don't like him, but I always have. He's plays with such a desire to win and succeed. So many 'winners', like Keano, Souness, Robbo, Vieira, Sparky etc, they all have that little bit of nastiness in them. Smith's the same.

I am hoping he's talking about Peter Lovenkrands from Rangers, a winger, about 23-24, and quality. Likes to run at people, and without the pasta hamstrings.

It is patently obvious we need to shed a few midfielders (Fortune, Chadwick and, I'm sorry to say, Veron), and the deadwood like P.Nev, May etc, promote the likes of Richardson, and maybe Timm, and invest in new defenders.

Hopefully Brown will stay fit, which means we have three recognised CBs with Brown, O'Shea and Rio, which means we should invest in a RB (Burdisso fits the bill, as he can also play CB according to my Argentinian mate) and Escude for LB. Those who have been talking about Castroman or Sorin are onto something, but it all depends on the denouement of the Stam saga.

We also need another striker, although I am mystified as to why Danny Webber hasn't been tried out, I mean, I am not a great follower of the reserve team, but from what I gather he'd been knocking in a few down at Watford before his injury.

The dilemma is whether to strengthen in Jan or at the end of the season. Cisse, Tristan and Shevchenko are all cuptied for Europe, as is Van de Vaart (who would be my main target outside defenders).

We also need A.N.Other ball-playing defensive midfielder. I wish we had snapped up Gilberto - £4.5m for a quality World Cup Winner. Him and Keane/Butt would have been awesome, and it would have allowed us to retain 4-4-2. As for alternatives, I am at a loss. Davids is too old. Wasn't that Pape Bouba Diop a defensive style mid?

But, instead of actual players, we perhaps need to focus on the areas to strengthen and cut or cloth accordingly to allow the new players in.

hes a great player but the amount of times hes said we are the one team he'd never player for is enough

ment to be a big time prick as well

and the funny thing about davies is we could of had him for less than 1mil before spurs

dont know why we didnt

I know, but you never know if he'd end up like Greening if he'd gone to OT then. He wouldn't have seen much first team action before now..

He's Leeds through and through, and while I like his hunger and you do need a bit of attitude - he just can't stay on the pitch at all.

he has been playing in france for a few seasons though

SAF said that if we buy a big name striker in Jan that they'll probably be cuptied. What big name strikers are available in Jan that are not still in the CL? Even if we do get another striker I'm another of the Webber fan club and I dont see why he cant be given a chance (when he's fit again) even if its the last 10-15 minutes of a match, give him a chance to show what he can do and I betcha he'll save us a fortune.

:D Fortune, Chadwick and Seba could pacify spending £30 million on the three players I mentioned. Would be fine business.

I agree with that! players who arent playing in England because it's the richest league in the world.

Along with Thomas Sorenson before the Arse get him :)

Why not Benoît Pedretti ? I haven't heard he's a United target, but if I was Fergie, I would try to get him. He's a young and talented defensive midfielder who plays for Sochaux. He has just been called in the French team to replace Patrick Vieira. The City game has once more shown that we lacked cover for Keane and Butt when they're injured. At 22, he stil young enough to accept to be a sub, particularly in a club like United.

Err.... thats just peachy Neil. You don't know about Lovenkrands and yet you rate him at 7m ?? I don't know where you got the 30m figure for Cisse. He would probably go for about 15-18m imo. Trust me. Its workable.

I gave him 7m cos you combined him with another player to make 15 so I just divided it up. As for Cisse, certainly pre-WC he would be 30m as he's the most sought after striker in Europe right now. Not sure what his price would be now, but if its us who's buying, then I doubt he'd be less than Rio.

he wasn't even 30million pre WC..

and certainly isn't now.. Nesta went for 25, Crespo for 16m and Canna for 14.. so i doubt whether cisse would cost more than 16million.. he's a great talent, but by no means tested at the very top.
