Players in the last chance saloon...

Good job you’re too young to remember Tommy Docherty
Maybe a more ruthless approach is necessary, but I think certain players are above that - and deserve a bit more respect, loyalty and benefit of the doubt for their services.
David hasn’t declined massively, he’s still a very good keeper (his weaknesses have always been his weaknesses ) so I struggle to understand the clamour to force him out - especially for free!

Isn’t he out of contract?

Extending for the sake of Preserving Value hasn’t always worked for us in the past…

The problem is so many of the players we need to get rid of are on astronomical wages that no other club would be willing to match. The players themselves are unlikely to voluntarily move for a hefty pay cut (can't blame them, really) so the only way we have a chance of offloading a lot of them is if we f**king give them away.

Scandalous situation to be in, isn't it?

De Gea should stay and mentor his successor on a lower salary.

Fred needs to go. I thought there was a place for him but the guy is way too unpredictable.

Sancho I can agree with although I personally think he's done for. The guy doesn't seem to have the mentality to play for top level clubs.

Others I'd mention is Lindelof. He's proven he's a good replacement for Varane and without Maguire to hamstring him, he's a decent squad player.

Dalot has gone from great to meh in this season. EtH seems to rate him but he definitely needs to up his game. AwB is somewhat the opposite. Massively improved during the season but does not seem like the manager rates him as much and his poor performances get him dropped quite often.

Martial is more of a get rid for me but if we cannot find a buyer, he's somewhat in here as well because if he has a decent preseason and starts well, we might be onto something because 1 Harry Kane won't be enough

Am I allowed to change my answer now?! :wenger: :nervous: :D
The ability to change one’s mind is a sign of strength, not of weakness.

The trouble with discussions about Dave is that they get polluted by one lot loudly proclaiming him to be shit and failing to acknowledge that until his disastrous 2018 World Cup he was truly world class, and another lot who are stuck in that golden age and can’t see that he’s been pretty unreliable since then.

The role of Jose in destroying his distribution by just wanting him to hoof it hard and long fails to be taken into account when people moan about that aspect of his game.

I probably fall into that category. He’s nowhere near as bad as some make out, and he’s far from our biggest problem but he isn’t what he once was and we can probably upgrade the GK position now.
I still think he gets a contract but maybe it wouldn’t hurt to sign a keeper to compete with him if the budget allows.

AWB
Martial (I know I am a fool)

The rest we can sell.

Martial Fred McTom Maguire are all past their sell by date. The swing from good to bad is night and day. DeGea is a different story and is a dinosaur in the modern game. VDB never been good enough. Then you have the older players loaned out, not talking about the kids. All these should be moved on.
Sancho I dont know. Maybe a half season loan to a Brentford/Villa to see if he can get some form at a less pressurised club and go from there, then try him again 2nd half of the season. He may be a late bloomer.

He’s too old to be loaning out. We either use him or cut our losses (like Dan James)
He was a flying machine at Dortmund and has never looked close to that player. I like the guy and I would love for him to succeed here but I’m really not sure he will.

I think we have to be mindful of how damaging De Gea, Fred and dare I say it, Bruno are to the way ETH wants us to play.

We will never be truly successful in the EPL if we have players who can't execute a pass when under a press.

Bruno has shown his quality when he has time and space on the ball so I'm not for one moment saying he needs replacing imminently, but I also don't see us winning a league title with him as our talisman.

I feel the same, but think we have to be absolutely sure, as he could move and suddenly develop as a late bloomer. Remember Forlan?

I remember him, but don’t think we ever missed him. If we move Jadon on we have Antony and Pellistri to cover RW (plus Bruno too though it’s not his best position) and Marcus and Garnacho on the left with Amad coming back too.

Most of them had their last chance during Ole era.
The only reason they are still here because people running this club are incompetent.

Despite how many might feel I don't think Fred or Sancho are in last chance saloon under ETH.

DVB - he could be but it seemed like ETH was starting to utilise him just before he got injured
DDG - he seems likely but apparently ETH said he wants to keep him and renew his contract
AM9 - I wouldn't be surprised if he was let go to make way for another striker
HM - I think he's out the door
PJ - will be told to retire
McT - I think he's actually more in last chance saloon that Fred

Yeah you are absolutely bang on

If we're talking next season is last chance saloon, then only Sancho for me is in that category.

The likes of McFred, Martial ,De Gea Maguire, Elanga need to go in the summer no more chances for them.
