Barthez 6 - I'd blame him for their first (freaky but still a Seaman classic) and third goal (he must make sure Bellamy is marked). But he did make som classy saves.

O'Shea 7 - His usual self.
Brown 8 - Has he really been injured? The future of our defence looks very good.
Blanc 7.5 - We truly missed him when he went off injured.
Silvestre 7 - A good game for him after looking tired for a few matches.

Solskjaer 8.5 - Very good, looked like a player having played RM all his career.
Fortune 8.5 - Very good too but gave away the ball that lead to their third goal. His only mistake in the match tho.
Scholes 9 - Amazing.
Giggs 8 - This is what we always want to see from him.

Forlan 8 - Very good.
van Nistelrooy 9 - Three goals, no need to say more.

Richardson - Looks very good. The next Ryan Giggs indeed. Tho I don't like saying that.
Roche - Looked nervous. Had no chance when he came up against Shearer for a header.
Veron - Vital experience when he came on.

Overall an amazing match!

Weird figures, giggzy. ;)
I'll give an 8 for everyone, with +/- 0.5 for some. Great team effort.
MOTM - Ole. Scholes and Ruud are praise-worthy too.

You might be right. And the goal wouldn't have come if Blanc had still been on, I'm sure of that.

BARTHEZ 7 Shame about the mistake

O'SHEA 7.5 I love this guy

BROWN 7.5 Hope wes is going to prove me wrong. I felt nervous about him coming back, but he's been superb really

BLANC 7.5 Nothing against Blanc really but I'm looking forward to us having a young back four.

SILVESTRE - 8 Pretty solid, tho better as an attacking defender

SCHOLES - 9.5 Give that man a medal

OLE - 9 Could teach Becks a thing or two.....

GIGGS - 8.5 Best game I've seen from him in ages

FORTUNE - 8 Didn't let anyone down today

FORLAN - 8.5 Still reckon his best position will be midfield

RUUD - 9.5 Right place at the right time for the goals, and still managed to be everywhere else on the pitch as well.

barthez gets a big fat zero for me for that goal if we hadnt had replied quickly it could have been soooo different

we cant afford mistakes like that

they had five shots on goal two at him, the other three went in

Couldn't give a shite about players ratings!(only kidding) I have been on this forum this season slagging our team (& manager) so for once, its nice to report that today I thought the whole team was excellent.I personally thought we would get stuffed today. Scholes was tremendous in CENTRAL MIDFIELD - why can't he play there all the time? Silvestre played like he wanted a new contract and Wes Browne looked like he had never been away. It was a totally deserved win and the only time the bar codes threatened was when we brought the kids on as subs, which obviusly depleted the team even more. Fortunately by that time the game was won.

Barthez 6+ lacked of leadership, nice save though
O Shea 7+ who needs g nev now
Brown 7 caught outpaced but a solid perf
Blanc 7+ a v good game for such an old man killed shearer
silvestre 7 good game.
Solskyear 8+ wonderful performance
Fortune 7 quiet but hardworking
Scholes 8 magnificent
Giggs 8+ and many thought he was at his end
RVN 10 took all the chances and scored
Forlan 7 lots of tech and hardwork but no shot on goal

Barthez 7: Can't believe so many people blame him for that freak goal.
O'Shea 7.5: his usual self, strong and stable.
Blanc 7.5
Brown 8: Good enough to be our future CB together with Rio. Excellent today
Silverstre 8.5: Can't believe why his contract still isn't extended yet.
Fortune 7: Do his simple job well for most time, except a careless mistake to give the abll way in dangerous area in the 2nd half.
Scholes 9: Anyone say he's not our best player this season know nothing about football.
Giggs 8: Finally, the true Welsh wizard we all want to see.
Ole 8.5: Excellent on the right, cause opponent endless trouble.
Forlan 8: Great assists and overall performance.
Ruud 8.5: Hat trick, good distribution of the ball up front. His best performance in this season.

Hmm i thought it was Richardson who was doing the unnecessary and gave away the ball?

Forlan was superb today. He might not of scored but ran his socks off, passed well, and notched 2 assists. Only a RVN hatrick denied him MOM.

I predicted an RVN hatrick last week, I felt it coming, I was just a week early

What a fabulous day
:D

Great to see the whole of the team playing well together. The key to our performances is not how well the best players on the day perform, but that everyone plays to a high level. Good performance from Fortune, and nice to see Diego play well in a game from the start.

8's all round...(I've decided not to be mean to Fabien !), and 9's for Scholes, Ole, RVN and Giggsy.

No way was Forlan as good as Ruud, or better than Ole. I don't mean that in a detrimental way because he was excellent - but Ruud was better, and Ole was superb in an unnatural position and deserves to be at least equal with Diego.

And no way on this earth was he better than Scholesy.

i heard forlan was at his best today.. bad luck about not scoring, but i really heard he did a great great job for us.. i'm not surprised our fans give that rating to him.. wasn't it his best performance so far?

what do you mean by that look? didn't veron come on later as a sub.. i really hav no idea what happened.. would it have been this scoreline with veron on the pitch from the start?

Barthez 6 - Was a bit of a Seaman for the first, and maybe he could have done better for the third. Made one great save though.

O'Shea 8 - Solid, the first goal conceded wasn't his fault, and he doesn't give away possession, and linked up well.

Brown 8 - Another strong display, reminding everyone of why Alex thought he was going to be the best central defender in the Premiership and why he was in the World Cup squad.

Blanc 8 - Assured display, using all his experience and understanding.

Silvestre 8 - Never looked exposed down the wing, and at his attacking best.

Ole 8 - Considering Ole's not the fastest and doesn't dribble, its amazing how well he performed anyway, because he's a terrific passer, crosser, with a a great touch.

Fortune 8 - Fantastic positioning, energy, aggression and desire. Won his battle well.

Scholes 9.5 - Only midfielder comparable with Zidane, world class passer, scorer, and his marking and tackling are very good. But more importantly he determines the style of the game - fast, one touch, passionate, creative and sublime.

Giggs 8 - His best display for some time, taking on his man, trying hard, and intelligent passing and movement.

Forlan 8 - Three assists, and that dribble to the goal line and quick cross was fantastic. Ruud couldn't have asked for it better - nice partnership. Reminded me of Cole and Yorke.

Ruud 9 - Incredible display, what a perfect player. Got his second United hat trick, scored more goals in all competitions than anyone, and his overall play, movement, passing, flicks, touch was quite outstanding.

Richardson 7 - He's showing signs of settling in and feeling more confident as he's playing, good thing about being so many goals up is that you get to give the kids more games. He's a great passer.

Roche 6 - Looked out of his depth, but that wasn't surprising, and Shearer is one of the best in the air.

Veron 6.5 - We looked weaker once he had come on and I don't know why he was brought on at all considering the Japan game.

Sir Alex Ferguson 8 - Last year after having an early season struggle, we went back to 4-4-2 with Scholes in midfield, and we caught up with Liverpool (who bottled it - and are doing so again), and Arsenal (who's defence is worse than ours). Maybe he was forced into this because of Veron's unavailability and injuries. But football is trial and error, and his experiments with O'Shea, and Ole, are paying off. He seems to have got the players trying hard again, and returned their character and spirit to them. One thing I noticed after the game was how goddamn happy Alex, Ruud and Ole were in their interviews. Great confidence booster ahead of the huge forthcoming matches.

Yes I would say so, It's nice to see him getting a start,it will do his confidence no end of good. He looked livley and linked well with the rest of the team.

Yeah , it is great to see Diego fitting in and enjoying himself.
The crowd have taken to him now as well !

great team performance is, i think, what mosy people are trying to say.
certainly above 'what we'd expect' performances from quinton fortune, diegio forlan, and perhaps wes brown. But overall we played well against a team that's been doing well recently.
All you Man Utd devotees might not have seen the 6 - 2 defeat of Aston Villa reserves last night, but Roy Carroll conceded an almost identical goal to Fabbo today. Its just a freak, the ANY team and ANY goalkeeper will concede from time to time. Its reallly banal to try to gauge anything from it. Fabbo might not be the very best goalie in the world, but he'll do for me. After the stupidity of last season, he's done okay. we've still got one of the best defences in the Prem, its been upfront that we haven't been performing. We put that right today.
I've always thought ( and told lots of friends), that this will be a funny season - with the so called top teams losing/drawing with supposedly inferior opposition - Man Utd included.
Today has totally proved my point. Who would have predicted that Team France and Liverscum would both lose to Soton and Fulham.
Believe me we're not out of this yet. We haven't been playing well yet, but being within 3-4 point of top place on Jan 1, is all I ask for in any season.
This year I don't think we're going to see any team winning 8 on the run, esp towards the end of the campaign. It'll be nervy, but we're not done for yet. Have patience.
As for ratings
bartez 7
o'shea 7
brown 8
blanc 7
silvestre 8
fortune 8

u said was it good because veron didnt play which i take to mean you want veron to fail which isnt what being a fan is about.

I would have to disagree with you. Barthez was to blame for the first goal as Osterdal stated in his original post - it really was a Seaman classic. A world class keeper should have tipped it over the bar. But he was also to blame for the second. I was sitting right behind the goal so had the perfect view. He set up the wall to his right but then stayed in the middle of the goal leaving an massive gap on his left. It was so obvious that many of the fans in the stand behind him were actually yelling for him to get over to the left. It was blindly obvious to all of us behind the goal exactly where Shearer was going to place the free-kick, thus no surprise when he scored.

Of course, if you have confidence in Barthez that's your prerogative, but having sat behind Barthez' goal for most of this season, it makes me (not to mention those around me) nervous every time the ball goes anywhere near him! Still, so long as we bang em' in at the other end, who gives a toss eh?! :D

Fab 5 - what can i say. he was sleeping
O'Shea 8- superb. shown that we have a great right-back if he doesnt make CB
Brown 8 - back to his best. would have given him more but i felt his performace dropped after Blanc went off
Larry 9 - shearer in pocket. only strike shearer had was the freekick. Blanc won every header against him. It was no co-incidence that Newc scored more after Larry went off, Shearer won EVERY header when Blanc left. That worries me.
Mickey 8- sheer determination
Fortune 7 - quiet but neat and tidy.
Scholes 10 - for me the wee man was MOM. ruled the midfield on his own. displayed all his passing reportoire and scored a cracker.
Giggs 7.5 - better performance.
Ole 9.5 - worked his socks off. provided good width and dangerous crosses.
Forlan 8 - involved in a lot of the goals, even though the one he teeded up for Ruud was actually a shot!
Ruud 9.5 - goalscored supreme. all round game good too.

great team performance. lucky for Barthez that the outfield players were on song today.
Great performace from Blanc, Shearer didnt get a sniff till he went off injured. Its a bit worrying that Shearer was able to win every header after Blanc went off.
without Blanc there i still fear theres a tad too much inexperience.

Fair fecks to you Golden Blunder.

You saw the same game as me.

I'd still prefer Rio at the back with one of Wes or O'Shea.

So between all people here, Barthez can basically be blamed for all three goals

I've seen the best goalkeepers in the world concede goals like the first. It's crazy stuff, but it does happen.

The second was unstoppable. No keeper in the world takes that. Like Eric's well known FK against Arsenal.

The third was just poor marking, awfully typical once Blanc went off.

No way the second was his fault. It was a great free kick, tho Shearer got lucky with the ball deflecting via Scholes - or it would have been more to the middle, and probably a save.

Of course you have. The best goalkeepers, like all goalkeepers, make mistakes.

What I'm trying to say is that it's difficult to fidn fault here. It's just one of those things really.

Two actually. One of the goals was purely down to quick thinking/instinct by Ruud, as it was a mis-hit shot by Diego. Still, that's just me being picky and an unintentional assist still did the trick.. :D

Not sure about a partnership with Ruud - Diego's assists today were excellent, but pure midfield service, and an ideal partner should be a goal-scorer as well. Still doesn't look as tho Diego is going to be very prolific.
