international hangover? disjointed we truly missed some key players today

i agree that veron and phil had a stinker, but forlan probably dont deserve a 5 for just 10 mins of action. maybe a 6?

:)

and barthez made a hat trick of saves from mr zorro himself, sava. guess he may have done enuff to earn a 8.

:D

good game, was really impressed with the 2nd half performance....

Barthez 8 laughed my arse off when he saved the penalty after making me nervous when doing his pre-peno ritual. some other good saves as well, nothing he could have done about the goal. Fab is back.

Gary 8 seems back to his best. Broke up a few Fulham attacks and looked sharp andalert. Once he and Becks assume their partnership again we should be flying down the left.

Larry 7 had a decent game, caught out a bit to many times when Fulham had more players in attack in the 2nd half, but another decent performance. Was never a penalty.

OShea 8 really impressing me again. He never got mugged, calm under pressure and distribution looked good. When he and Rio can get a strng of game together we will reap the benefits. :D

Silvestre 7 had a quite game, but was never caught out of position as he has been before, even if he didnt get forward as much as id have liked. But he played well again.

Becks 7.5 tried really hard as usual. Didnt get any good crosses or shots in, but make a nuisance of himself and put in a captains performance by making sure the lads didnt settle. Can still improve tho, as can...

Giggs first-half 6.5, second 8 disappointing opening really. Thought he wasnt playing until some 25 minutes in, and was fairly anonymous for the opening 50 mins. After half time he got much better when he moved up front with Ole. Those two seem to work well together.

Seba 7 worked tirelessly to make things happen, and put in some decent balls, but he didnt impose himself and get in to the game. Still seeing an improvement, but his tackles are atrocious.

Scholes 8.5 MOM imo. Brilliant passing - never noticed just how good his passing is until recently. Was unlucky not to score early on, and got up and down the pitch like he hadnt just come back from injury and played three games in a week.

Phil 6 had no idea what the point of playing him was really. Even with Butt/Keane out, we should have played Fortune or Luke imo. Its unfair really, and this rating doesnt do Phil justice, because hes had a good season, just dont think midfield is his game.

Ole 7.5 good game as always. When Ryan came up to support him he looked miles better. Great goal, a stunner, should be a goal of the month contender.

Fortune did well when he came on, Forlan didnt have enough time as always, but Martin Tyler picked out Richardson on the bench, a sign that SAF rates him highly ?

2 things gazza,
(1) Gary Neville and Beckham should be flying down the right not the left
(2)why say that "Even with Butt/Keane out, we should have played Fortune or Luke imo. Its unfair really, and this rating doesnt do Phil justice, because hes had a good season, just dont think midfield is his game"
unless youve been watching a parallel universe United to me, i could have sworn that ALL of Phils better games this year have been as a CM breaking up play. In fact he's received a lot of praise in this role.

Back to school for you young man ;)

sir alex should let ricardo have a start too see if he should be a number one or a two.

let him start against aston villa man!!!

lets go boysss!!!!!!! <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

1) simple typo, calm down. ;)
2) bullshit. He earned his keep this season while Gary was injured. Ask anyone and they will tell you. He's only played two or three games in CM this term, and looked poor.

back to school for you poof. ;)

Barthez is playing brilliantly, we should he be dropped just so we have a look at Ricardo?

you sir are a dumbass

I can't believe Veron is getting marks like 6 out of 10, he was dire, absolutely terrible today against a team who like us were carrying injuries.
His inability to make telling challenges is becoming increasingly worrisome.

No one seems to have made much fuss about the two penalties we should have got.

Finally, anybody know much about the young lad on the bench today, I think his name was Richardson.

Veron is not suited to English football, and no-one amount of wishing otherwise (aka fooling ourselves) will make it otherwise.

No point making a fuss about penalties. We had a dodgy one against Boro, and will probably get more, so it evens out.

And Richardson shows a lot of promise in the reserves.

And by the way - Ole worked his socks off today.

afraid you are very right, he cant seems to win back the ball, dilly dally too much when in possession, lose the ball too easily for my liking, and his teammates have to cover his mistakes and win the ball back...

arghhh.....

erm, scuse me, name a game where phil has played well and I'll name which position he was in. ;) Until a couple of weeks ago he was a RB, since Gary came in hes hardly had a chance.

From the highlights, I'll revise them when I watch the full game on MUTV
BARTHEZ 9 MOM - Down to him that we didn't lose, great saves, and only he would do that for the pen.
G NEVILLE 7 - A lot of attacks went down his side, put some good tackles in but his positioning wasn't too good
BLANC 5 - Very poor imo, should've been sent off, was a pen, pulled out of position frequently and was a liability - not on his game.
O SHEA 8 - Commanded the defence, singlehandedly often.
SILVESTRE 6 - Invisible and shaky
GIGGS 6 - Very quiet
P NEVILLE 5 - Out of his depth, lost his battles completely
VERON 6 - We're all just so fed up with this. Can't be arsed to say it again.
BECKS 6.5 - Great cross for the goal, tried hard, but should have stopped the cross for their goal.
SCHOLES 7 - Unlucky not to score, if only he'd placed it either side of the keeper.
OLE 7.5 - Great goal, and had another great chance too, but isolated too often.
Didn't see the subs for long enough.

You're wrong mate, his best performances have been at CM this season. Have a look back through the player ratings threads if you like.

I agree that Phil has been more effective in midfield this season than he has in previous years, and you are right in saying that the past threads support this.

But i still think it is a desperate attempt by Fergie to reward his loyalty with a place in the side. Phil is a good full-back, close to international quality, but unfortunately not a first choice selection for us at full-back. Tell me in which other premiership team he could expect to earn a place in the middle of the field ? They'd play him at full-back, or stick him on the bench. In terms of commanding a midfield place we're talking silk purses and sow's ears here.

You'd also have to live in a parallel universe to see a midfield combination of Phil Neville and Veron as anything close to first-choice.

I certainly don't see Phil as ideal in that place, its just he gets enough criticism as it is and deserves praise when he does well, whatever position that it - but he's not as good as butt in that role and nothing like keane, or scholes. I think Alex should have started with Scholes and Veron in CM and Forlan starting up front with Ole - what more can Forlan do in the reserves to get a start up front? He got 5 fecking minutes. And no doubt clueless cnuts will treat that as if its 90.

I agree neil...we're the top team of the last 10 years...we need to pay to win, not play the percentages.

Phil's a stop-gap in the midfield. Diego has to be given a chance in the starting line-up. (Remember he scored his 4 reserve-team goals at Christie Park !!!). If he doesn't get it early in the season when Ruud is injured, then when is he going to be given the chance ?

while I don't think Scholes was MOM, (Barthez would be my choice), I really like it when he stepped in to the holding midfield role after Phil Neville got subsituted. His tackles were suprisingly good :D :D

why are people surprised by Paul scholes? He's got the lot, in fact i would say hes probably our most complete player.
He had poor form last season and maybe people are only realising now again what a damn good player he is. He'd be one of the first names on my teamsheet everytime.

Yes he's the most complete midfielder I've seen. His passing is just as good as every 28m or above super stars we have, and his tackling, running with the ball, work rate, shooting and co-operation with teammates are also above standard. But he is a midfielder afterall. Fergie moving him to forward in favour of a much more expensive but much poorer player in the midfield is one of the major reason we struggle in these two seasons.

Barthez 7.5: Who cares for the silly behaviour and the yellow card as long as he saved a penalty for us?
Gary Neville 6.5: Stable in defence but not helping the attack well.
Siverstre 6.5: same as gary
Blanc 6: conceded the penalty
O'Shea 7: Very stable and mature. Impressive
Beckham 7: work very hard as usual, but fail to produce any telling pass or cross.
Phil Neville 6.5: not the same level as Keano or Butt
Veron 6.5: Awful first half. Though much improved in the final 30 minutes.
Giggs 6.5: Same as Veron. Only improved after changing position with Scholes
Scholes 7.5: Once again very impressive throughout the game.
Ole 7: Try very hard and a great goal.
Fortune 6.5
Forlan 6

Veron was pants yesterday and if his performances continue like this for the next couple of games, SAF should have no hesitation in benching him.

A 7? He would be lucky to get 5.5

his performance on Saturday wasnt much different from that of most of his domestic games with us, so what makes you think SAF will suddenly change his mind?

Veron's performance in the first half was awful. But after Phil Neville was replaced, he played much better. Ran tirelessly, covered at the back and kept the ball well. It may also be caused by Beckham stopped roaming everywhere in the midfield. I noticed that whenever Beckham started to run everywhere in the midfield, Veron would disappear in most of the time. It seemed he didn't get used to having another player getting all the ball in front of him. ;)

Having played well this season so far Blanc was poor. I hope Fergie will stick with JOS when Rio returns as that's our best combo without doubt. Silvestre was dire and Giggs anonymous. Phil was hopeless I'm afraid. All due credit to Fulham, their strong running and movement made this a very difficult fixture and a draw was probably a good result for us in retrospect.

No I wasn't suprised that he's good, but it's just tackling isn't his strongest point, he is known more as an attacking player anyway. So I was pleased (and a bit suprised) when he played in Keano role and did extremely well with all the defensive responsibilities.

Watch a re-run of the game, to try and give Veron any kind of praise is crazy, Fergie's persistence with him is having a detrimental effect on Scholes, who is in top form but is being played out of position to accommodate Veron. In recent games Scholes has performed at a higher level when he is pulled back to midfield, the same could also be applied to Giggs.

Maybe people now will realise why I was so critical of Phil Nev a few weeks back. Our midfield which has been one of the world's best in recent years is now looking one of our weakest lines- I know we have injuires etc, but so did Fulham.

No, just that you didnt understand it. ;)

Itchys comments are just stupid. Instead of putting in a decent comment on the game he just says, "Veron was pants" which to me is just an utterly stupid thing to say. If you thought Seba didnt have a good game, fair enough, but just explain why first.

Yesterday I counted he passed the ball in rivals’ foots at least 6 times (4 in the first half). That’s all were ‘unforced errors’. Too many IMO.
