O'shea 6 played (ok out of his depth)
Rio 7 played well
Blanc 6 steady
Silvestre 6 well out of position for the goal, poor game
Beckham poor distribution and passing was dire
Butt 7 tenatious played ok
P Neville 5 ( whenever we are forced to play him Its a desperate situation )
Giggs 6 nowt special but worked a bit harder than usual
Ole 6 couldn't find space
Rudd 6 a slight improvement on previous game but poor touches

Chadwick 6 no improvement from the last time I saw him play

Forlan 5 enigmatic

Fair result they were just a tad better than a poor United

As a matter of interest - re-do those marks based on the first half only.

okie i saw it on telly... here's my call

Barthez: 6 nothing much to do less a cock-up between he n rio..

JOS: 6 did average in a position not his best. was out of sorts earlier in the match.

Rio: 7 calm considering the hype n such..one misplaced pass n the one with Barthez..

Blanc: 6 usual game..didn't notice him much...
Silvestre: 5 game was lost due to his error IMO. went sleeping with Kewell beside him..

Giggs: 6 did some running at defenders without much significant results, in the centre once again

Butt: 6 average game for him, tough luck to go out, midfield appeared even lighter w/o him

PNev: 5.5 had some waylaid passes, ran ard aimlessly in the centre of the park. However he tried his best ;)

Beckham: 6 not the best performance from him. couldnt cross properly. might be a 5 w/o his freekick..

Ole n Ruud: 5.5 less than a handful of shots between the two of them..werent sharp at all..

Ruud and Ole both had good games.

becks was crap.

rio and blanc were solid.

silvestre played well.. pity his mistake lead to their goal.

he played ok...

no way was he the worst player on the pitch.

i'd give him atleast a 6.

I actually thought Phill Neville had a good game by his own standards. He got stuck in well.

Forlan for Ruud - baffled the hell out of me.

Chadwick - just kept running into nothing and losing the ball.

Woodgate and Robinson saved em.

i think he gets treated unfairly by the fans..

he did well today, but for some reason, his name usually equals a 5 rating.

id agree with that. Neville covered a lot of ground and broke a lot of attacks up. in that respect he did well.

defence did well

strikers did ok from little service, better at least than theyve been recently

midfield is where we lost it. kept giving the ball away. didnt create anything. Becks had an awful game.

Barthez 6 - would have been 7 but he didn't make much of an effort with the goal

O'shea 7 - was out of position but did nothing wrong

Rio 7.5 - played well

Blanc 6.5 - had a few good moments, but too slow

Silvestre 6 - great going forward, but you're a defender Mikhael.

Beckham 6.5 - wasting his talent - is trying to go for glory instead of servicing the front two.

Butt 7.5 - all changed when he went off.

P Neville 5 - not on form as a defender, so why play him out of position??? If Beckham insists on playing thru the middle, then Forlan could have been used wide right.

Giggs 6.5 - better than of late, but same as Becks.

Ole 7.5 - no service, but had a good game, and is not getting the credit for some of his link play and a few excellent passes.

Rudd 7 - his first touch isn't good - but it wasn't that great last year on occasion either. He worked his socks off and just lacking that ruthless finish.

Chadwick 5 - Last time he played he came on as sub and was substituted. I'm not surprised.

Forlan 5.5 - Seems happier in midfield, as he didn't get too far forward!

Giving individual scores misses the issue. We are down to bare bones in some positions so it isn't strange that we underperformed.

My worry is that we have lost the ability to turn defense into lightning attack

Probably. :)

Except the fellas I was watching it with thought the same.

Admittedly, it was more noticeable in the first half.

Surely now any of you dickheads who were calling for Keano's head can see what bollocks you guys were thinking. Today's midfield was shite, and it would probaly have been worse if that nice boy Veron was playing. It was the same against Bolton, we have no leader, no one to drive us on. Surely if Keano had been playing today he would have clipped that scum bag Smith at some stage and put him in his place, instead of letting this young lad run around like he's Rambo.

Livvie - Glad you gave O'Shea credit; he did make a couple of mistakes today (nothing fatal) but remained composed and alert throughout and tried hard to get forward despite that hardly being his strong point.

Impressed with the way he ignored Smith despite repeated attempts by Liverlips to rattle him.

And I reckon those 'fellas' were just trying to impress you ;)

I was impressed with the way the Leeds players kept MU quiet...a number of your players were off the boil today and the marking for Kewells goal was non existant....case of "Rio where were you?"

Viduka kept the ball well and Smithy did his bit in unsettling your players whilst keeping his temper.

Well deserved 3 points! At last

;)

Just having O'Shea in the team gives me a lift. My only real worry is the strength of the squad. I think our best 16 are capable of winning anything.

And they weren't. Trying to impress - they weren't with me. T'other half's mates. So there. :)

Cancel that date Weaste. ;)

Marching - it was a game of two halves and you know it. We pissed on your lot in the first half. You had nothing to offer. Unfortunately it was the reverse in the second half, but to say that you kept us queit is a bit much. A draw would have been a fair result I thought but having said that based on our SECOND HALF performance, frankly we deserved to lose.

Agree Giggzy. I also thought that up until half time Micky was my MOM. Bearing in mind that the 2 Aussies never got a look in until the goal our defence looked good though O'Shea is not, and never will be, a fullback.

I can't see how you can be so critical about RVN. He forced Robinson into two great saves ( the first was lucky). He might not be in his best form, but I would say he was the most dangerous striker of any today. I, like Ruud, couldn't understand why he was replaced by Nogoals Forlan. And did you notice how crap our attack was once he (RVN) was broght off?

So, my ratings are:
Bartez 6 Communication seems to be his weakness.

O'Shea 7 Handled himself very well at RB. A player who I'm very comfortable with ATM.
Ferdinand 6 Ordinary. Involved in a coupled awkward incidences with Bartez.
Blanc 7 Read the game superbly. If only the others could do the same.
Silvestre 6.5 Handled the Aussie for most of the match. Just has to remember to always be goal side of the opposition.

Beckham 6 Too many long balls. Ineffective in dead ball situations. Might have got a 7 if not for Ian Harte! ;)
Butt 7.5 Steady. Played hard
P Neville 6 Fortunately for him and Alan Smith, they were both lucky this ref let them off easy.
Giggs 6.5 Not at his best. A good header and some good touches. But, not enough.

OGS 6 Not his day. Still he worked hard.
RVN 6.5 Two good scoring opportunities. Was unlucky not to have one goal.

Chadwick 5 Invisible!
Forlan 5.5 Was he ment to play as a striker! A good runner. Should play as a RM/RW/RWB. He tackles a hell of a lot better than he finishes.

GOD! I wish we still had Andy Cole!

Andy Cole the miracle worker? Since when?

We bought Ruud Nistelrooy. We bought Veron. We bought Ferdinand. Why should Cole succeed where they have failed.

The problems do not necessarily lie with individuals. We have great players. Just a poor team.

hmm.. watched the highlights last night, and rio did make a few mistakes.. the one with fab nearly cost us a goal... it was rio's fault, coz the ball was near his feet..

and yes Blanc was very good. pick of our defenders IMO.

i would've gave silestre a much higher rating, had he marked kewell properly.. shame, as he was excellent but that one mistake resulted in their goal.

i wouldn't argue with that.

altho RVN was excellent aswell, throughout the match.

That's a thing I've never heard while he was playing for France, and I don't think it has something to do with his English. The facts is that he takes balls other keepers don't usually take and the defenders in England aren't used to that. Lizarazu said one day "sometimes I go for a ball and I hear Fabien saying "Laisse" (Let !) so I let him take it". He has just played three games with Rio and this problem, who never happens with Blanc, can be resolved. They must work on it.

Elfie - I trembled when I put that. I knew it would upset you. ;)

I think maybe he was a bit shocked by it as he did seem very static.

You know I like Fab.
