Gazza: you are absolutely correct in your assessment. O'Shea was pure class. He was the best player on the pitch today. There is no way that Sir Alex can continue to deny him his due. I am not sure what must be done with Blanc but i know that Rio and O'Shea must be on the pitch at the same time.

I am being extremely generous with Giggs - looking back it should be more like a 6/7 - I guess I only gave him an eight becuase he scored a crucial goal with a great finish (flashes of his brilliant goal up at Newcaslte last season) and it was his century for us. I agree it was a fine game for Silvestre tho, he is a class act going forward, doing put a foot wrong in defence either. 
I think Forlan could act as cover on either wing - and it wouldn't hurt Giggs or Becks to know they had competition.

No one can walk into the team because of his price tag. IMO fergie is 100% right to bench him today so as to make him understand that he must fight hard for his place.

Carroll: 7.5 - Could have done better for the goals, though he did keep us in the game and was kept too busy for comfort.
Phil: 5 - Another dreadful performance by him, both in terms of woeful crossing/passing, and stupid positioning, We may as well not have had anyone down threre, what made it worse was that he was also right winger since Beckham was rarely over there in the second half.
O'Shea: 9 - If Rio costs £30m or so, how much is John going to be worth? We're never letting go of this star. The thought of such a gifted kid playing alongside Rio for the next 10 years is the most reassuring thing about United right now. Leader of the defense, incredible achievement for one so young.
Blanc: 6 - Let the defense down imo, either he's still not fit, or he's far too slow, or he's not mentally sharp, but whatever it is, he was taught a lesson by his apprentice O'Shea.
Silvestre: 8 - I find him a frustrating player, he can be so good going forwards, getting the assist for both goals today, that you want him in your team. Its just he's still a 90% man when it comes to defending, sometimes he'll be lucky, sometimes he won't. I think if he was a left wing replacement for Giggs with Escude at right back, we might get the best of both worlds.
Becks: 8 - He was not to blame last year, and was one of few to come out with honour. I expect no different this year from him, he might have a big ego, but he's got a lot of pride, and its this which elevates him to a true competitior and leader. He leads by example and today he effectively was the captain. We're also blessed to have someone of such unique skill, able to curl a ball from any situation and with either foot. However it is madness to not make the most of him by not keeping him on the right. Sven's is wrong, he's the best crosser in the world and should be a straight winger.
Butt: 7.5 - I felt he had a poor first half, not managing to get a grip on the game, but clearly United were a different team in the second half and Butt was part of that, closing down relentlessly.
Keane: 6 - Those fecking Chelsea scum were booing him every time he got the ball and were trying to get him wound up. He didn't fall for it, but sadly played without any belief or confidence. This book business is a big fecking mistake just like last year. His touch was off and failed to influence the game at all.
Giggs: 7 - The goal flatters his game, sweetly taken unlike the one's he missed. He's not a forward and shouldn't be played as such. What he does need to learn is to fecking work harder and defend, no other player doesn't press the ball.
Scholes: 7 - Only for his second half performance, he was invisible in the first, partly a victim of where he was played. Second half was a little reminder of what he can do, he still needs games to get fit and sharp.
Ruud: 7 - Shouldn't have to battle so much on his own, poorly supported today, and crying out for Ole to join in with the attack. Chelsea defended very well, but its not too difficult to mark the one striker. His touch has improved imo from last year, he's a better dribbler, he's going to have another great season, if we get the formation right.
Ole, Veron and Forlan were played too late in the game to have much effect, and were played in bizarre positions so I'll just give them all 7.

what bloody game were you people watching?Roy Keane was a collosus in the second half of the match,he absolutely had the game by the nuts,are you people blind?Why do you think we dominated the second half so much.This book is not affecting his game ,he was absolutely the best player on the park last night as usual.Special mention to OShea,he was man of the match last week against the Hungarians ,which I stated after the match,and he was last night also,along with Keane.Fergie cannot drop him when Rio comes back,it will have to be Blanc to the bench

i think some people are being generous to Ruud on last nights performance. For me he had his worst match in a United shirt. kept falling over, and the point where he slid the ball of giggs foot just summed it up.

It could be hard for Ruud to beat the 30-goal mark this season. People will be watching him closely, and the second season is always the hardest. I hope these first three games this season will be one-offs.
Red15 spot on mate, the formation is too discouraging to our strikers, we used to be a team based around our frontline, not where its an afterthought. IMO the midfield's job is to protect the defense and provide for the attack - but if there is only one person in front to pass to, they can't do that.

We may have had two strikers at Chelsea last season but Ole was really playing right midfield while Giggs was playing off Ruud.
