Player of the year - half term vote

id agree with that.

Mikael Silvestre should right in there too for best player of half season. Hardly put a foot wrong, and I am sure he has played more minutes than anybody else.

Scholes certainly though I think Ole deserves recognition, he's been great.

Ole and recognition don't really go together.....always the bridesmaid is Ole.

Bryan Robson said last week that only Ole and Scholes have performed consistently all season. But generally, that has been recognised in Scholes, but not in Ole. If he isn't scoring every game, it's assumed he isn't doing much.

1. Van Nistelrooy
2. O'Shea
3. Scholes

they're my top 3 but Ole and Silvestre deserve a lot of credit, also Phil Neville and Fortune have put in a few good performances in the holding midfield role recently in Keane's absence

1. Scholes
2. O'Shea
3. Van Nistelrooy

Ruud took a few games to get into his current form, Scholes and O'Shea have been consistent throughout.

It would more like 'thirding' ;) ... No, but, Mikael Silvestre is having a monstrous season. He is going up supporting attack with assured and authoritative runs. He has his own share of assists. And at the back, he has been solid as a rock. Having been ever present in every fixture we have played so far, Mikael Silvestre deserves a mention more than anyone else, I believe.

I'd like to nominate Veron please. Because:
He hasn't had the best of times, he's stuck with it without slagging and bitching and worked on his game. The man is a superstar and deserves a mention.

thats all :p

The rate he is going at, Veron, should notch the player of the year award at the end of the season. But, at the half way stage, he has had a few disinterested performances in midfield, not in Europe, obviously, but in the PL. And just those few take the gloss off his roaring performances of late. So, for a half-season award, perhaps, he would not so much fit.

End of year, though, my money is on him.

I'd go along with that. To be honest, there isn't one player that really stands out for me. But I'd go for Scholesy right now, then probably Ruud.

#1 Ruudboy - he's in imperious form now, but even at the beginning of the season when the goals weren't coming quite so readily he was still creating and playing quality football. He's fast become so indespensible it's frightening.

#2 Scholsey - bang back in form. I think he's finally got over the fact he's not being asked to do anything he can't do or even hasn't being doing in the past already. Fergie never expected him to be a 2nd striker. Stop reading the papers Paul and listening to the pundits and just play your natural game. It's not complicated.

#3 Seba - I think he's been playing well all season, and not just in Europe. Much was made of Veron "ducking" out of a tackle in the derby game, but he wasn't the only one. He may not have quite recognised the significance of that particular "local" match, but for 45 mins he was still the best player on the pitch. If that proves to be his worst display the season in a "big" game I can live with it.
Arguably been our most creative player thus far.

Honourable mentions to Barthez,O'Shea,Ole, P. Neville and Silvestre.

Between Scholesy, Ruud and Mikael in my opinion! I suppose Ruud would just edge it for me becoz of his important goals!

O'Shea would be up there but I think he gives the ball away a little too often (dont jump down my throat, think about it or watch the next game)! This is something that can be improved on and I reckon we could have a United ledgend in the making!

Would also like to give a mention to Seba, and Diego, i think they're both improving all the time! Veron was excellent Vs. Depor he seems to have upped the pace of his alround game and he's shown he can tackle! He's showing the kinda spirit we want from players and the redshirt. Diego's goals have been important Vs Scum, Southampton and Villa and I think he'll go from strength to strength! He'll never be prolific i dont think buy he's a good team player! Brings players in to the game, has two good feet and a good brain!

1. O'Shea
2. Ole
3. Scholes

I'd love to give it to Ole, but O'Shea's contribution has been immense - the real difference this season has been that the defence has improved immensely over last year. We've been able to move Mickey inside in the last two games, because JOS has covered so effectively in all the defensive positions.

They've all done well at some stage of the season. So I give a vote to everyone. :)

This has been a team effort. Everybody has been pulling their weight, there hasn't been any reliance on superstars to work miracles. I think in that respect it's a brand new team. Even Ruud's "miracle goal" against Basle was no more impressive than Phil Neville's blinder against Arsenal, Veron's getting stuck in, O'Shea's all-round effectiveness (I thought I was watching Mark Hughes for a moment when he steamed towards the box on the left I think against 'Pool), Ole's heroics down the right wing etc. etc. The Whole Team.

1.scholes
2.rudi
3.veron
i've never been a fan of veron - he can't tackle and he just needs too long on the ball. But i'm slowly being won around.
last night i was in nw quadrant, and he put a pass in about 5 mins before half time that i'll remember for quite a while. No-one's mentioned it yet on the tv, but it was the highlight of the game for me (along with his backheel cross for ruud's disallowed header).
he won the ball just in our half, v. close to the sideline. olly made a great run along the line, but seba looked the other way, and looked as if he was passing cross=field. looking on way, he curled his foot across the ball, an sent a perfect 30-yarder along the line to looy, which he controlled instantly. BRILLIANT. no other way to describe it. it happened right under my nose. why has nobody mentioned how well seba is playing with keano out , and for the last 5 weeks, becks out as well. he seems to be flourishing when he's got star-billing. it'll be interesting when they come back.
Did anyone else notice seba's disguised pass last night ???
;)

1. Veron
2. Fab (very close second)
3. Silvestre

Veron's ability on the ball and his work rate are unquestionable.....he has now added a desire to get stuck in - GO Seba!!!

btw....you'll be hard pressed to see any better supplier of the ball....its unfortunate all his thru balls have not turned into goals.

As a former Man Utd cigar chompin' sunbed bakin' sovereign ring wearin' ex-mananger- cum tv pundit might say..."Give the lad a spotter's badge for that one".
Much of Veron's telling creative play has gone unnoticed all season.

aww shut it, you're just tryingt to score points with Livvie ;)

Scholes gets my vote - him and Ole were the only two performing well when we weren't doing too good, but Scholes had to do it out of position. Ole has had a period on the right, but it's not enough to justify him for player of the half year.

Phil, Gaz, and Veron should get awards for their insistence on trying to do well despite poor performances on many occasions.
