PL International Cup: Manchester United vs Villarreal

If Fosu Mensah is not in contention for Europa league then surely he should play in this game? He need games for match fitness.

I'm very interested to see how we fare against a technical team.

It's a shame all the venues are in England, would've been good experience if it was mixed.

Johnstone, El Fitouri, Tuanzebe, Poole, Riley, Scott, Redmond, Willock, McTominay, Harrop, Hamilton
Subs - Henderson, Olosunde, O’Connor, Kehinde, Doughty, Mitchell
First start for Hamilton and O'Connor rewarded for a brilliant start at the club

i wish this was a U18 competition because our U23 are poor and boring this year....Harrop, Tuanzebe and 10 average joe's :(
Bench once again more exciting then first 11....

If I'm not wrong O'Connor is just 16 year old isn't it?

No love for Poole and Johnstone? :(

I like Big Sam but in the end he is a gk, not really relevant to our playing style and not someone you will be excited to watch....Poole is ok just like the likes of Redmond, Willock etc. but they are all pretty average from United perspective. Combine that with the fact that we have a very unbalanced team and you get a deja vu feeling to last season and that LVG side - you will watch the game but you are not excited to do it

Cheers, yeah expected that after Willock playing there last match and McTominay has been playing defensive mid lately too.

It should suit both of them better. Willock has the Pogba-esque ability to drive forward with the ball and sort his feet quickly.

McTominay has been doing well in front of the back four in recent games. Good screener.

Technically u23 but basically all players are 18-20. He has been good for the u18s and is Ireland's u17 captain so if he is good enough he is old enough.

So there is a good chance he might play for U23 (regular schedule) this season or next.

Floodlights failure.

Symbolises the calamity that is Reserve football sometimes.

Might get the odd appearance or two but unlikely he'll play that much this season, maybe more towards the end of the season. Impossible to predict though really, the u23s RB currently is El-Fitouri so there is an opening there and he can play in midfield or CB too so he is versatile enough to take any opening. I guess if he continues to settle and impress for the u18s there is no reason we won't see him for the u23s this season.

Game pushed to 7:30

Thanks. I would like to see him at higher level soon though.
As would I, Buffonge played in the last u23 match so Boonen could have a chance of getting an appearance or two off the bench too. We're short on wingers and attackers in general so hopefully a few of the u18s who are playing great recently get some time in the u23s.

Good to see the u18s coming out to watch. Some more of them should be involved tbh.

1-0 Harrop He's been lively. Nice finish.

Poole has been outstanding so far.
