pienaar

Still not the right player for us IMO, but if I am wrong we'd need to make space for him i.e. get rid of one of our existing wingers/attacking midfielders. Remember we the 25 rule?

So from the following:

Nani
Valencia
Park
Giggs
Obertan

(Tosic will be moved on/loaned out in any case)

We would need to get rid of one. I don't see any of those guys leaving apart from Park, who gives us a lot more on the work rate/defense aspect than any of the other wingers. He plays a vital role for us in the big games when asked to do so.

Therefore, don't see it happening unless Park leaves. I hope this is not the case.

As a South African, it would be i his interests to stay at a club where he is playing regularly, and one of the key attacking players. Would be silly to move to a club that cant offer him that.

This. I would love for Pienaar to move to United but it just won't be a clever move for him. With Everton he will be an important player week in, week out. This will not be the case at a bigger club. He is South Africa's single most important player and needs to play regularly. It really would be disastrous for him to go to a club where he will be bench warming at his age as his career will go downhill very fast.

Agree with all except the bold. He could very well go to a bigger club and play regularly, but not United at this stage IMO, its more circumstantial that an indictment on his ability. Hence, I don't doubt his ability to establish himself at another "big" club in Europe - e.g. Could be a great replacement for someone like Di Maria if he leaves Benfica.

I like Pienaar and have seen a lot of him. I was at Goodison with my in-laws when he made his debut and have seen him a good few times since.

However, I don't think he's much (if any) improvement on Park and is only one year younger. We don't need him.

Yeah I guess I should've said at United he will have a difficult time as there are so many ahead of him in the food chain. Though he can be a brilliant player for a side like Liverpool, Tottenham or Valencia for that matter.

i have the feeling that we might end up signing him

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson are the favourites to sign Toffees star Steven Pienaar as the race for the player’s signature hots up after South Africa’s elimination from the World Cup. Despite fierce interest Everton boss David Moyes is reluctant to let the South African winger leave the club. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger recently revealed he was a fan of Pienaar while German giants Bayern Munich and big spending Manchester City are also monitoring the situation with an interested eye.

The 28-year-old South African has one-year remaining on his deal at Goodison Park, and despite his reluctance to sell Pienaar Everton manager David Moyes is wary of losing the former Ajax man for nothing next summer when his deal runs out. Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp have both registered their interest in the winger and have been cut once more by sports bookmakers making Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur the favourites to sign the winger. Arsenal, Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City and German club Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move although it is understood the Red Devils and Lilywhites have the edge in the race to sign Pienaar. The player’s agent revealed last week that Pienaar had not received an improved contract from Everton, and that his client would consider his future after the World Cup.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised Everton playmaker Steven Pienaar during the World Cup for his improved form for the Toffees last season, leading to reports suggesting the player could be on the Frenchman's Emirates shortlist. While Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and Bayern Munich have been recently linked with Everton's newly crowned player of the year with his contract set to expire at the end of next season. However Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are seen as the favourites to land the ace.

However, despite heavy interest Pienaar was happy to distance himself from talk over his future, however now that the South African’s World Cup is over, the Toffees ace must answer questions on his future. Pienaar said before the World Cup began:

"As a player my job is to play and that is for my management team to deal with," he said. "I'm totally focused on Bafana and the World Cup.

"We will have to wait and see, but the Everton supporters have been very good to me and it's been good for me to play for their team, but for now I'm focusing on the World Cup."

Pienaar has impressed at the World Cup despite Bafana Bafana’s exit from the tournament. The Everton boss David Moyes is desperate to keep the former Ajax star, however Pienaar want parity with top earners Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill.

As much as it pains me to say it, not good enough.

A move to either United or Spurs would be detrimental for him in any case. Needs to be playing every week. Would not be afforded that opportunity at either club.

Very old quotes in that article. I'm fairly sure David Moyes has said more recently that he has spoken to Pienaar and/or his agent about a new deal while he has been in South Africa.

I like Pienaar but I agree with Average Joe, he's not going to offer anything like the improvement we need in midfield and would be competing against a few players to get into the stating 11 at either United or Spurs. He would be better off not getting above his station, staying at Everton with Moyes, showing some loyalty and trying to get them into the top four, which I believe they will have a good chance at achieving next season so long as they don't have the injury problems that wrecked their last campaign.

Inter Milan have earmarked Everton winger Steven Pienaar as a potential target but a move for the South African would force them to reconsider their squad make up.

Following the country's poor World Cup, the Italian FA have told clubs they can only sign one new non-EU player for their squad per season and young Brazilian midfielder Phillipe Coutinho has been listed as that player.
On the move: Pienaar has expressed his desire to leave Goodison Park this summer

However, that was planned before Rafa Benitez arrived. He was keen on Pienaar while at Liverpool but believes his move to Inter makes a deal easier.

Everton's £15m valuation of Pienaar has made a Premier League move difficult but Inter have the cash and the stature to make it happen.

It is also understood that if a deal can't be agreed now, because of the EU ruling, Pienaar would be willing to see out his Everton contract and sign as a Bosman for Inter in January.

I wonder if people will call him disloyal for honouring the whole of his contract.

That would be a good value signing. Not a bad squad player at all.
