pienaar

Why? Because he's better than Valencia and Nani? I dont think so, personally.

the last thing we need is another 'good' player - we need to aim a little higher i think

we need someone who is going to improve on our current options and I don't think Pienaar does that

well thats what i meant but he' be more effective going forward than park

I meant more in terms of his usefulness. He's probably better going forward, but not to the extent that he's going to improve us in that are, thoughhe's nothing like as tactically or defensively good, IMO.

If possible, we need less workers and more players with real ability.

He'd just be a squad player, a la Park.
Not really. He is a natural center midfielder. Basically a more creative version of Fletcher, a thing we could pretty much use in our first 11. He is used wide at Everton mainly because they've lacked winger that could do his job wide till the Russian arrived.

Can't see us going for him though.

Same here. I think he's a very good player, but he should score more goals though.

No worse than Park. I actually had him down as older than that. Not what we need, but if we get what we need then he could be a useful extra player.

I'll do it

I don't understand this.

Last week the stories said Liverpool would try with a 8m bid as his contract expires after next season. A week later he's out of contract this summer.

His agent was on SSN. No movement from Everton on a new contract (he has one season left).

I think he'd be a decent signing for us. Impressed me in a lot of games.
All this stuff about "he's not United quality" is bullshit. Given that we have no money it's a bit unrealistic to be looking for "world class" signings, which is what some still seem to expect.

Saw the interview on Sky Sports via TVU. The agent says if nothing is ironed out before the World Cup, the chances of Pienaar staying at Everton decreases. I feel Everton will sort it out soon.

Anyone who thinks he isn't United quality needs their head examined.

If I may add to that, it's crazy to think that every player that we sign has to be of a very particular standard. There's certainly a fairly narrow window that most, if not all, players should lie within, but it's not quite as narrow as some appear to believe.

The very nature of the squad game that football has become means that even the very best teams have to accept that it's necessary to build a squad with several levels of quality, throughout.

And, of course, even recent history attests to the fact that players — and the fans perception of them — improve at certain clubs and move up the levels. A player who is brought in as a squad player can quickly become an essential member of the team.

Where it appears that some go wrong is their focus on the first eleven and the unrealistic belief that we should have the best player in the world in every position. They'll continue to be disappointed, if that's the case.

thats true. Real Madrid is a good (or bad , depends for whom) example. Galactico system simply doesnt work.

Another thing is , however ,that Pienaar doesnt have to be the right guy. In my opinion he isnt.

Exactly.

I'm not convinced he's good enough either way, and he doesn't have age on his side (he's 28). While he would be a decent option to have on the bench perhaps I'm not convinced one of our 17 foreign spots should go to such a player especially since it's quality not quantity we need with our large squad.

Still not the right player for us IMO, but if I am wrong we'd need to make space for him i.e. get rid of one of our existing wingers/attacking midfielders. Remember we the 25 rule?

So from the following:

Nani
Valencia
Park
Giggs
Obertan

(Tosic will be moved on/loaned out in any case)

We would need to get rid of one. I don't see any of those guys leaving apart from Park, who gives us a lot more on the work rate/defense aspect than any of the other wingers. He plays a vital role for us in the big games when asked to do so.

Therefore, don't see it happening unless Park leaves. I hope this is not the case.

As a South African, it would be i his interests to stay at a club where he is playing regularly, and one of the key attacking players. Would be silly to move to a club that cant offer him that.
