anyone heard about this guy?? how true will this be?? <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" /> <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

<a href="http://www.philippemexes.com/" target="_blank">Philippe Mexes Homepage</a>

just got his website

Its true that Fergie wants this guy. Or at least he did until he got Rio.

I pray to God that having Rio, Brown and now O'Shea as good young CBs doesnt make Fergie think we dont need Mexes. WE NEED MEXES!! WE WANT MEXES!! I would have preferred him over Rio this Summer and I hope to God he wants to come here. I reckon he wants to go to Roma though.

I'd hate to miss out another French dynamite youngster, Cisse.

A doubl Auzerre swoop jus isnt gonna happen though :( nevermind Duff too. Thats my wishlist for next summer.

Didn't Guy Roux say something about Mexes being a United player by 2003?

There's another article claiming he's interested in moving to Arsenal. He's a talented defender, and I can't see us paying alot of money for him if O'Shea continues to develop.

<img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[No No]" /> WE NEED TWO FORWARDS,A CENTRE AND A WINGER .FULL STOP.

four players.

why stop there?

To provide cover for Becks and Giggs,. It looks like Fortune and Chadwick are not in the picture these days.
One player is ok if he is like Duff (could be used as awinger and a forward). ;)

Ahh, I thought you meant as a replacement for either Becks or Giggsy. Duff would be fanastic (though unrealistic) at this stage.

As I see it, we do need two forwards (definitely one within the next 12 months) and another shortly thereafter.

Also, we need cover for Gary and Silvestre. Hence our recent interest in Escude and Burdisso. A replacement for Blanc would also be nice, since O'Shea looks like he's going to be a long term solution. Hopefully Alan Tate can step up.

if MU can get him , get him! WB and GN can play rb - JE and MS (if he re-ups) at lb PM, RF , JO'S at cb - an back 4 for the next 10-12 yrs. i've onlt seen him play about 10 times and he's a good one. he was suoer at the U19's a couple yrs ago and is very strong. poerful in the air a good tackler. he and cisse would be great additions IMO. the arse quote is agent speak to start a bidding war between the clubs.

Mexes would be a great addition, but I think our priority right now should be another striker and a left back...ideally a striker who has pace and can run at defenders and it looks like Fergie's pretty set on Escude as our left back.

I just wonder how much money we're going to have available in the next year. I can't see us splashing out the money that would be needed to buy a quality striker and Mexes unless one of our big name players was sold.

Fergie has to be the slyest Mother*****r I've ever known! I've heard of tapping up players, but Damn! Christmas cards? Letters? Tour of Facilities? A MAN UTD shirt with no.6 on the back with MEXES on the back! hahahahahaha
Fergie is a genius! A suckup none the less! But whatever gets the players to OT is fine with me! :D

A back four line up next season of

Brown Ferdinand Mexes Silvestre

Would be very solid imo. It contains real pace and strength with all the players good in the air and powerful athletes able to get up and down the pitch. G. Neville and Escude to fight for the RB and LB positions with O'Shea and another emerging youth player as cover in the centre (Blanc retired). Defence would be covered for years.

If we got Ronaldinho as the extra striker I think we would have an incredible team.

Regarding the money, UTD will have another £23 million cheque from Nike next season. They've still got change from this season as the Ferdinand deal was £15 million this season £15 million next.

When you add up the financial incomings and outgoings over the last few seasons, UTD have been quite prudent. I think someone suggested an outlay of £12 million per season over the last two seasons.

I genuinely don't think it's a case of penny pinching. I think the players UTD really want are not available yet. UTD have shown that when they are, they're willing to pay and pay big to get them.

There is no need for Mexes imo. Our CB spots are tied up for the next ten years if Brown can overcome his injuries and O'Shea can keep improving. We need a Fullback for either side more importantly imo. On the subject of Strikers, we should try for one of the following should the opportunity arise:

1. Duff - has a buy-out clause of 15m in his new contract apparently
2. Ronaldinho
3. Lopez / Cisse

I would have preferred Mexes to Rio cos I reckon Mexes is gonna be the best in the world. Would have been cheaper too.

That said I am delighted we have Rio, but you wonder if he is £10 million better than Nesta et al. Plus Rio is still prone to the odd mistake like Brownie and thats a big worry for me.

All this tapping up was done before we got Rio...Mexes wont be number 6 now will he?

Rio wanted to play for us more, so I think we got the right ma. But Mexes alongside him - phwoar

I think thats it in a nutshell.

But if we did sign Mexes, there could be no complaints because he's excellent.

I could see O'Shea becoming a top PL defender, while Mexes will be world class.

If you read the news from soccernet:
<a href="http://www.soccernet.com/england/news/2002/0908/20020908mufcmexes.html" target="_blank">http://www.soccernet.com/england/news/2002/0908/20020908mufcmexes.html</a>

If this report is true, obviously he wants to join Arsenal more.

Note that despite how may christmas card or shirts or Old Trafford Tour he received, he never says "I want to join United".

Haven't you learned not to be strung too much by the media feeding you the information they want?

obviously
why would he come out and say it a year before anything happened? he wants the best for himself, and he wants to have more than one choice when he does leave. i'd say he's ours if we want him, as long as we dont express and interest only to bid 1 mil for him, which i wouldnt rule out.

He is hardly going to rule out playing for any of the big clubs is he?

Although what Arsenal and the term "big club" have in common is beyond me ;)

On Fans FC, which seems to be as crap as many of the others, they say that Auxerre have slapped a £45m valuation on him. <img src="graemlins/houllier.gif" border="0" alt="[Houllier]" />

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Nobody is perfect, but you have Irwin - reliable and Silvestre who is unreliable.

Atm Rio is on the wrong side of the line, but he has improved alot and is still young.

I dont see the same with Mexes, I think he is Frances best CB at the mo, maybe he is better than Blanc already ^^;

We'll have to see, its clear Man Utd is not his first choice, maybe second. Rome is what his heart says. It comes down to whether he prefers England or Italy, and like Blanc, he may feel Italy suits his style more. Or maybe the weak Italy and strong prem will push it our way.

Agreed. I have become increasingly impressed with O'Shea this year, and it seems that he and Rio will be our long term CB pairing.

Unless Mexes can play DM as well ;)
