Philipp Max - LB target?

Yep, he was fantastic overruns offensively. Flat or high crosses - no problem for him.

His offense is his strengt, he struggles defensively sometimes. Think he could be great in a 3-5-2.
That's why he isn't in the German squad. Löw likes to have a balance.
Kimmich is the more offensive wingback, Hector the more defensively. It's a good move against counters. Otherwise they would be very open at defence.

I found this (watch the link, NSFW although you get to see Rita Ora's tits) and have to say I am not overly convinced by the veracity:

Is FC Augsburg now getting the big money?

Star newspaper coach Jose Mourinho (55) is still looking for a left-back for Manchester United, the English daily newspaper Daily Star reports. Allegedly FCA defender Philipp Max (24) is at the top of the list. In addition the Olympia-second probably also wants to Old Trafford.

For a change, the FCA will demand around 40 million euros transfer fee. Manager Stefan Reuter (51) was not available for a demand.

Max, who is currently in Greece, gave 13 goals in the previous season, making him the best defender in the Bundesliga and still has a contract with the FCA until 2022.

Is there any reason he's not in the Germany squad? Jonas Hector always seems to start for them and I find him pretty poor. I know not being in the national team doesn't mean he's not a good player, but still curious.

Too offensive for Löws liking. Hector is what he is, he is solid and can sometimes surprise you, also he knows the system and has played with the team for a long time, taking someone without any caps to his name playing for Augsburg off his breakout season probably didn’t look that appealing to Löw.

Great crosser of the ball but has some issues with decision making.

Any freshness to the team is welcome for me, but I don't like the mention of decision making here. That's where we struggle a lot in our play.

If he can cross a ball, then just give Ausburg a blank cheque right now.

Yea, he was poor!

I don't think anyone is suggesting Schweinsteiger was a poor player throughout his career, just that he was bad for United.

Which I 100% agree with, he was poor.

Is this the new Ricardo Rodriguez?

Don't want to take this thread to far off subject, but whats wrong with Rodriguez? Impresses me every time I watch him. Having a decent WC as he did Euros two years ago.

Agreed. Hence me saying we need a good German.

Nothing wrong with Rodriguez, I just wanted to know if he's same type of player.
