Smalling snapped Jones's toe right after Jones smashed Rooneys knee . Jose must be led awake at night wondering how he ended up coaching these 2 donkeys.

I would get angry about it if it only wasn't so funny

Well that surely spells the end of our back three experiment.

We definitely need a centre back in the summer, but it's a question of who to shift. All our CB's are of a similar(ish) level and I've always been a big Smalling fan. I don't know, as I think we'll see quite a few British players leave. I wouldn't feel comfortable with Jones or Smalling going.

Perhaps keep them all, still sign a centre back as use Rojo mainly in a left back capacity if we don't sign one. I still have faith in Shaw. I hope Mou does too.

I think they probably are all on a similar level. But at least the other 3 are mostly fit and available for selection.

Jones injury record is why he'd be the one I'd get rid of.

For me, Jones looks to have had real issues since 'Philing' out; his co-ordination is shocking compared to his early days. He also looks about 6'3 these days, compared to the universally quoted 6'1 circa 2011, something else that could account for his dodgy balance and control of his body.

Michael Keane should be brought in to take his place in the squad; finding a buyer for big Phil will be awkward though, and it might be worth keeping him as an auxiliary rightback as back-up to Valencia until O'Connor develops up to first team standard.

Jones has played 164 games in six seasons here. Those are some Rosicky/Diaby levels.. damn. Rosicky managed 247 in ten years and in two of those seasons he managed 1 appeareance combined.

Does anyone really have any idea how close he is?
6 weeks for a toe injury sounds a long time.

Pictured driving to Carrington today. Hope he's joined team training and comes back asap.

Hope he is forced to train alone. Phil always injures someone it seems.

Training this morning.

Arsenal 2:0 Man Utd
To be honest I really didn't notice him, he seemed to disappear between the shining light of Tuanzebe and the mistake ridden vortex of Smalling.

He was alright. Much better than Smalling, at least. I seriously think there's a player in there that we can benefit from having fit.

He was shite and slow at LCB. All of Arsenal's good stuff in the first half came on his side. Rusty as expected

Smalling isn't great but at least he's not a crock. Its pointless keeping Jones here as he'll break the moment you need him

I can't believe there are still people who want to get rid of any player before Jones. At his 24 he is having another season ruined by multiple injuries - only Young, Shaw and Romero have played less than him this season. Last season was even worse, the likes of Varela, Romero and CBJ played more in total than him. Totally unreliable and shouldn't be any better than 4th or 5th choice.

This lemon is only slightly behind Rooney in my summer deadwood giveaway list.

I'd still be inclined to keep this guy rather than Smalling.

Agree with the above, he's a better player than Smalling. Fitness is a huge worry but Mourinho isn't going to pin his hopes on Jones been a first choice centre half. Bailly, Rojo, Jones, Tuanzebe & another centre half gives us 5 centre halfs. I'd be happy to start next season with that.

He was absolutely awful.. that LCB position was basically the area Arsenal targetted us all of the first half and he was constantly out of position and was a sitting duck for anyone with pace and strength to take him on.. even with the protection of Darmain down that side and Mkhi who was doing a decent job tracking back on that side.

Shambles of a performance.. Smalling was better (but cost us the first goal) whereas Jones was fortunate that all his feck ups didn't result in a goal being scored.

Both need to feck off though.

Showed promise at Blackburn, but has steadily regressed ever since.
You couldn't hang your coat on him, let alone your faith in him as a defender. He's been staling a living at OT for way too long, has to go in the summer.

I hope he could stay with us as long as possible. He is that type of United player of rare kind.

Chap at work was saying he'd had a good season.

Had to look up how many games he actually played.

23 apparently.

That doesn't strike me as great shift, yet it feels like one of biggest turn outs in years!

Didnt he go on a run of games up before Christmas where he played like 12 matches in a row and it was being hyped as his record number of consecutive starts for us, which is pretty shocking. He is a crock and surely has to go in the summer..

Aye, and he was actually pretty decent in that run. Then he got injured against Hull and missed a month, came back and he was all over the fecking place before of course getting injured again.

He has to be the first defender out the door this Summer.

His passing stars are up there with the best in the league....then you realise 2/3rds of them are passed back to the goalkeeper rather than taking responsibility and playing a simple pass forward.

He's one of those weird players who's got decent tools but lacks the brain to be a central defender, as he's too often out of position. He's a decent destroyed in midfield in a very specific, limited role of running into designated opposition threats. The only role I could see him being useful in moving forward would be as in inverting robust leftback, with intellectual defenders inside him to cover his positional spasms.

After watching Blind tonight, if we going to sit deep then it would be better to play Jones in the final.

Any risk to play him twice in 4 days (Spurs and Southampton) with his recent injury in mind?
