Phallon Tullis-Joyce

I take it we haven't missed Earps too much then? (Genuinely curious, haven't followed the women as much this season, due to general apathy towards football as a result of the men's failings...)

Absolutely not. PTJ has been better than Earps was last season (and this season at PSG).

Phallon has been having a really good season, couldn't have gone better really. Good scouting by us, even though she didn't come cheap (by women's football standards). Rated by her teammates and our goalkeeping coach as well.

She's even at home in Manchester - she's talked about some of the places round the area where she goes scuba diving and fossil hunting in her free time. Unusual footballer.

Agree with the above, not missed Earps at all. The goalkeeper stats for the WSL have her leading, and have all season, by quite a margin.

Not even a little bit.

You could say the marketing department might have missed Earps' profile. But on the pitch we've arguably upgraded.

Earps was an excellent keeper for us, although not as convincing last season. However, I do believe that PTJ is an upgrade. As for marketability, Phallon seems to be much more of a humble, even introverted character. I like that about her. It's a bit like comparing Schmeichel with van der Sar.

Now would be a perfect time for you to check out your women's team -- you just might find yourself hooked!

@Lobster11 Genuine question. Are your goalkeepers so good that Phallon does not get a look-in? Since Naeher retired I thought she would be up there.
It's funny: Phall was flying under the radar for a long time in the NWSL, and evidently United recognized her potential before the USWNT. We've got some other solid (post-Naeher) keepers, but now that Phall is on Emma Hayes' radar I predict she'll be the starter before the next World Cup.

Thank you. That's reassuring. She deserves to be on the big stage. Excellent use of the possessive apostrophe by the way!

Thanks for noticing that. Punctuation matters!

Come to think of it, I should note that the quality of writing in posts here at the Red Cafe -- at least here in the women's-team forum, which is the only part of the site I use -- is generally very good. The only other online forum I belong to, which is based in the U.S., often makes me weep for the future of the English language.

You still can't spell 'colour" though ;) but this is way off topic. I do hope Phallon becomes the US number 1.

Our being "two countries separated by a common language" might mean that we disagree about some spellings, but I think we're pretty much on the same page when it comes to grammar and punctuation.
