Is out on Friday, anybody got their copy early?

I'm desperate to get hold of it

Picked it up this morning for 22 pounds (around 25 sterling). No idea why it's out here so early. I've onlu played one game (beat City with United 3-1) and I'm not noticing much different about the game on the PS2 aside from menus and the like and slightly smoother movement. Anyone know how to dive on the game??

r1+l1+r2

There's like several thousand different releases on Mininova, I bet only 2 or 3 are genuine. Bastards, it's a minefield

Playing it on the PS2 as well since I don't have a PS3. Don't think you can dive on the PS2 nor can you change the players forming the walls. Still can't figure out whether you can even do the newer skils i.e Ronaldo's heel flick thing. No success with it so far.

Commentary is a hell lot better though that's for sure.

Ive been tempted to get this with a PS3 on Friday but the reviews are starting to put me off.

Most saying FIFA is as good if not better

This guy who works in a game shop refused to tell me whether they had the game or not. Was very confusing.

ign were impressed. Gave it a 9.2

If the demo is anything to go by, it's a lot better.

You xbox nerds don't understand. The Pro Evo that appeared on the Xbox was a shadow of the PS2 version. Going by the demo, there's little to get exited about this time round either, and apparently the PS3 version is at best the same

Well, maybe it was because FIFA is crap.

Amen to that!
The last time I played Fifa was about 6 years ago but I just downloaded the Fifa 08 demo and it is as bad as i remember. It just sucks people in with its official lincense and graphics, gameplay doesn’t matter.
I spent about 5 minutes playing it admiring Ronaldinho’s pearly whites in true HD glory then switched it off, I then dug out PES2 for the PS1 (a game I thought I had lost) and had a good hour and half playing it. A true classic, the graphics might have been a little blocky but its probably my favourite Pro Evo game there has been. It just gets all the basics right. Even now it still pisses all over anything Fifa has produced.

As for PES 2008 I wasn't expect there to be a major improvement over the last one as whenever Konami bring out a PES game on a new console its always a bit rough round the edges. If the next one is similar then I will be worried.

This is what happens when developers go multi-platform instead of sticking to what they know best and are good at. Greed, it's all greed I tell you.

I just turned on the PS1/2 smoother and now the image is clean and sharp.:D

The review above is pretty damning of the ps3 version for frame rate dropping, apparently Konami have not gotten used to PS3 yet but the 360 version supposed to be better. A couple of people on my friends list have been playing it today so I am going to try and get it tomorrow!

There has been reports of some pretty bad slow down and frame rate issues with this new version.

Will still end up buying it as I have with every version since the first PS2 version. Still if its true its disappointing to have such issues on a console as powerful as the PS3.
This has all the hall marks of a rushed release, not enough development time I guess.

I had it delivered this morning from Gameplay for the 360.

I have to say im not impressed with it one bit, it's just a faster version of PES 6 and it's piss easy to score (Won 7-4 on only me second game)

Back in the other versions it usually took me 5 or 6 games to score me first goal and then take a few weeks to get really good at it.

I have to say im very disappointed with this one Konami.

Don't be fooled by the demo. The actual game is ten times (No understatement!) better than the demo.

Like you i am a PES man, i always have been. I'll be picking my copy of it up on Friday for PS3 but i have to say that the reviews so far don't make for good reading.

FIFA 08 is good just not classic PES excellent.

Holy shit...

This is awkward reading, this thread. I have been so looking forward to PES 2008 since the sloppy halfhearted PES6 came out for X360 without any edit functions or indication that it was a game to be enjoyed.
There is one remark on this thread that worries me. Ronaldo No. 9 said: "...it's just a faster version of PES 6..." FIFA went the other way and slowed it down to be more realistic with its almost real time movement.
Are you saying that PES 2008 is even MORE arcade than the previous one?

...and was it the full version of the game that you played?

I hope you're on top player, if not you're a big girl

Even on PS2, PES 2008 is tougher. players are a bit harder to shrug off the ball for starters. The Teamvision thing really works I guess. The computer's AI adapts to your game. Scoring goals from corners and crosses ain't as easy as it used to be. I'm having a hard time passing the World Tour challenge of scoring 2 goals from crosses.

Heres a couple more reviews, I have never came across the site before but they gave it 9.3.

9.3 Overall
The best football game on the PS3, enough said.

This site gave it a 9

The Playstation Official Magazine UK gave it 90%

There is no other game on PS3 that you're guaranteed to still be playing this obsessively this time next year.

Seems to me after reading the reviews so far that it is a good game but it could and should have been so much better.

Got it through the post this morning for PS3, and after playing around 6 games I can't complain. It's pure quality, shooting, passing and AI has all been improved enough and although the graphics could be better (and definately will be a couple of years down the line) it looks very nice indeed. Other plus points are the commentary and improved Menu screens, which make for a better overall experience.

Keepers remain dodgy and spill lots of shots, but this is the only real downside i've noticed in the gameplay so far. The editing mode is pants i'm afraid but hopefully the option file geeks out there can get United looking good on it. (We had grey socks until I edited it!)

No doubt you will have heard A LOT about dodgy framerates, but this is only an issue in cut scenes and replays, and although annoying, I can live with it because it doesn't affect your game.

Overall very impressed but I can't deny Konami could have done more, there's only 15 stadiums for christ sake!

sounds good enough for me, cheers mate.
Ruud, where did you get your copy from?

This is exactly what i wanted to hear. The opinion of a real fan, not some biased magazine reviewer.

Cheers dude.
