Personal attacks and name calling of players

The United fanbase is a bit of a basket case. I doubt there's another fanbase in football where a large section of it at any given time seem to despise their own players.

And top players for us like Rooney, Rashford and Bruno don't even escape the vitriol. The opposite is true if anything.

And while we're probably all guilty of insulting certain players at certain times. I can't imagine hating virtually the entire squad. Supporting a football team with that mindset must be a very miserable experience.

It's not stupid at all. What's stupid is the acceptance of where we are by people. No standards anymore.

Shit football needs calling out. Shit players need calling out.
Nobody debated this. It's the way some people 'call them out'.

Not sure it is that easy. Rashford and Sancho for example are for me shit as players, weak mentality and also I don't like them on a personal level. Shit attitude, think they are better than they are. The sooner they are gone the better. I have tons of more respect and time for Maguire for example. Less talented, also fame got to his head, the fall from grace. But he showed mental fortuitude when the going gets tough. The shit he had to go through. Established himself back in the team. I have a lot more respect for him than beforementioned clowns.

Where did you meet them?

I think people are fully justified with the comments they put Vs what the team is doing at the moment. 90% of the forum is infuriated by what they are seeing.

I see people here daily with 10k posts, who can't even spell our players' names. And then if they miss a chance, come out yelling names.

I am honestly very close to calling it a day for this forum and leaving because I see how appalling some of you are.

I agree, I was pointing this out for some time now, it is beyond cringe and childish behavior.
People who attack and name call players just expose themselves as clowns.

You think people are justified calling players idiots, wankers, etc?

I can maybe see it if you think someone isn't putting a shift in, but the majority of our players are trying their best and just aren't good enough for whatever reason. That doesn't make them dickheads or deserving of insults. That is never going to make someone play better. Does 22 year old Hojlund deserve to be called every name under the sun just because he isn't making the grade in one of the top leagues in world football? He's still reached a level that probably 0.01% of footballers ever get to. He's achieved more than you ever will and you think you have the high ground here?

It's fine to be angry and frustrated but channel it in the right way. Name calling is a bit embarrassing and imo anyone who reverts to that is a bit infantile.

Personal attacks and name calling are definitely not on. I wonder if there are players who read posts on these forums too. In fact (and I could be misremembering ) back in the early years of the caf, there was a youth player’s parent on these boards who posted semi-regularly.

It is stupid.

If you think for a second that being personally abusive towards players who play for your club (on any platform) is in any way productive, and in any way will help the club is stupid.

No one is saying you can't criticise! They all deserve huge levels of criticism, but getting personal doesn't help anyone.

Pretty sure we had Shola Shoretire's dad at one point recently.

I have a gut feeling that the underperforming players already know they're underperforming. Don't recall too many situations where a player has improved by being attacked by so called fans. It's okay to be mad, but our job is to support the team. It's the only way forward.

No amount of abuse is going to transform our current team into a winning side. No amount of support is going to transform us either. But as a player (if it was me) i'd be more motivated to right our wrongs if I felt the support of the fans.

Be nice. It's just football. If you can't do that, stay away from the stadium and/or the message boards. Nothing worse than "supporters" acting like idiots.

It’s been getting worse for years, and now it seems perfectly acceptable to refers to players as ‘cnuts’ etc

My partner always attacks my performance but doesn't use hurtful language

As someone who’s been on football internet forums since 2001, this has always existed within every fanbase but the rise of social media has made it transparent and amplified it.

A lot of the stuff on modern social media is a bunch of edgy teenagers whose lives are yet to have adult responsibilities so therefore all their free time goes into a hobby like football, and they’re all trying to one-up eachother in being shocking and an edgelord, but provide no substance or debate to their inflammatory sound bites, which should mean you never take them seriously.

This place is fairly tame compared to some forums I’ve been in. A bunch of users I knew and played online gaming with were quite venomous for their teams but did it a tongue in cheek way because it contributed to the engaging and funny content of that forum. I know a guy who was a WBA fan who would go in big time on certain players in the 2000s akin to a Malcolm Tucker rant on The Thick Of It. Thanks to him, me and a bunch of users know a bunch of vulgar but funny nicknames for old WBA players and how shit they were. At no point, did anyone think he was going to go postal or did anyone say that’s too naughty or you shouldn’t post that as players read stuff.

Sometimes it just feels good to vent online and channel your anger and frustration into something funny and/or informative has been my mantra. Don’t go full crazy and take it to the real world. It’s a bunch of dumb footballers at the end of the day, of whom a considerable amount of them are out of touch, egomaniac dickheads who absolutely should not be seen as role models no matter what the media say.

Cheap personal digs, childish name calling and sleights on the character of people posters don’t actually know are gradually putting me off the forum.

I visit a lot less now, and feel less engaged when I do.

The Amorim and Senior Management Team Talk threads, for example, are a very depressing read and generally best avoided.

Appreciate all the efforts the mods put in trying to prevent, in their own time too. Must feel like trying to shore up a dam with your fingers.

Yeah I should say, it's not really a comment on the modding. I think it must feel like a tidal wave at times currently.

@Jippy replied and I didn't get a chance to respond.

I think we need to be a little better at taking a deep breath before resorting to insulting a players character just because they don't finish well or whatever. Its my thread and it's still advice I need to follow.

all so precious. Typical of today's world really. least it's another thing to cry about. who cares, we are dog shit. if people want to call an underperforming, over paid player obscenities, who cares. if people want to reserve their judgement, good for you, who cares.

There's a difference between criticising a person and a person's actions. It's something I still struggle with doing because I too was a teenage edgelord once upon a time. But saying someone played badly or did X or Y badly is not the same as calling them shit, if more of us did the former and less of us did the latter it might not feel like such a hostile place at times.

It's more than that though isn't it?
It's a relentless pile on, orchestrated (in some cases) by YouTubers (Goldbridge et al).who are making money off the constant conflict.

I remember after the cup final when Goldbridge posted a picture of a clearly emotional Rashford with a comment along the lines of PRASHFORD at it again. There was no need for that.

completely agree. after a loss i tend to log myself off, go for a walk and take some time to calm down. i’ll head to the spa at the racquets club and i’ll sleep on it before grabbing a load of pain au chocolats from the bakery the next day and hollowing out the chocolate and replacing it with dogshit, before sending them on to ten hag.

Hilarious how this is even a thread to be honest. A thread where some posters are arguing for the right to abuse our own players.

When you're whinging that you are being discouraging from slagging off our players to the full extent of your abilities, do you not stop and think what the feck you're actually doing?

I think I'm one step closer to figuring out where the players get their feebleness from.
