'Pep' Guardiola sack watch

They still went along with it, don't for one second give any of these cnuts any excuses. These people are not stupid people, they're very smart. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Signed up. But not the driving force behind it, also no City owners/executives on the board or whatever they are calling it.

He's has more freedom in what he can and can't say.

You always have a choice. These superstar managers and players have the biggest platforms available to them to speak up, nothing that horrible will happen if they do. The owners treated the squads like dirt, nobody from Arsenal execs has even spoken to their players yet, they are true criminals in my eyes, dirty ugly greedy sleazeballs.

Btw, have people seen the full PC or just going by that one answer to Simon Stone?

If you look at the next question, Pep massively goes on to defend Man City and how they didn't fire anyone, how everyone is looking for themselves - City, the other 11 clubs and UEFA, and on and on

They do and I'm not excusing them, all I am saying is, he has a more freedom to speak his mind becasue his boss isn't on the board of the ESL.

Look at the differences between him and Klopp similar stance, but you could tell Klopp was holding back more.

Why?

Probably because his boss, is on the board as a vice chairman.

Let's see what Ole, Zidane, Pirlo an Arteta say about it, when properly questioned.

It's honestly quite baffling to me how it's still hard for some to just acknowledge how great Pep is a manager regardless of how much he spent. The guy is a clear genius, it's actually bitter to think otherwise at this moment.

Not just spending, I honestly find his brand of football boring to watch.

But yeah, he is obviously a truly great manager.

Agreed. I think its down to how he wins so much it becomes irritating to a lot of people. Plus there are some who treat him as some sort of footballing saviour. When he was first coming to City, some journos hyped him up as some missionary.

So many, many people here made this forum absolutely unreadable yesterday... It's a bit sad, really.

He's a serial winner, we should have fought tooth and nail to get him, imagine what he could have won for us?

5th most trophies won as a manager according to a list I saw earlier. Not sure how reputable.

He'll likely retire as the most decorated manager unless he experiences a major blip or retires early.

The City squad is highly overrated on here. People will have you think it's full of world class players in each position x2.

City already invested and built a team or at least set up the foundations for him before he arrived. All for Pep. Then he was allowed to splash unlimited amounts of money. The sort of resources I dont think United would have allocated to him. He would also have to deal with the Glazers and Woodwards. An issue he hasn't at City. He's the boss. He can't be touched for now.

Pep’s net spend since summer 2016 is €631 million. Man United’s is €586 million. So he wasn’t actually allowed to splash ‘unlimited amounts of money’, unless you consider that Man United were also doing that, because the figures are pretty similar. City just have a lot more to show for their outlay than Man United do.

United have spent just as much within the same period though.

Any great manager will do well if you allow them to spend obscene amounts every year.
Any manager won't have them playing the way they do though.
What i feel people often fail to realize is that teams aren't hiring Pep just so they can win, a major reason why he's hired by these clubs is because of his style of play that is seen as very attractive and leeds to the team scoring a lot of goals. If all the clubs that hired him wanted was just winning alone, they could have hired anyone else, though it's not sure that they would have won just as much with any other manager.

What you are both conveniently ignoring is that the few years before that period, United had under invested in the squad. Pep arrived and already inherited Yaya Toure, David Silva, Aguero, Dr Bruyne, Kompany, Sterling, Fernandinho.

If he didn't already inherit such top class players already, imagine how much more money he would have spent.

Objectively, United and City were neck and neck before Pep took over. Look at the two points total of both teams in 15-16.

Points alone is not a fair reflection and doesn't show the bigger picture, City and United finished on the same points actually but City scored 22 more and had plus 16 GD better than United. The season before that City finished 9 points ahead of United and had plus 20 GD on United. That shows City had a better team and were performing better than United before Pep with a better squad overall.

I don't see the relevance of goal difference here, points total is enough of an indicator to suggest there wasn't a lot in it. Add to that we had the exact same results that season in terms of wins, draws and losses.

When Pep took over, we had 4 fullbacks over 30, Otamendi, Mangala, injury prone Kompany. And that's just defence. We had some great players but a totally mismanaged and ill-prepared squad.

Doesn’t change the simple fact that spending lots of money doesn’t automatically mean success. Man United are ample proof of that.

Are you really arguing Man United has an underfunded squad?

That's €345 million on the field + €310 million on the bench

Yes, City beats us by €200 million, but surely €655 million worth of players should be capable of winning some trophies? (Not even counting two of the world's most valuable young forwards)

So basically you think the only valid points to take into consideration are those that fit your narrative?

It’s a pretty lazy argument anyways. United is rich and spent a shitload on its squad. Almost as much as City did. The results vary though.

Except Sterling was absolutely dreadful when Pep arrived, Touré was pretty much finished, Kompany was injured for half of Pep's reign and the others on that list were completely different players before Pep. No other manager would've got the same levels out of them.

You know I never understanded the argument “City prepared for him” etc. They did that because he is the best manager and worth doing that for. Yes I agree it’s easy enough when spending so much money but it doesn’t take away from the fact he is the best in the game

I'd argue Zidane has been better over the last 10 years

Plenty would have said that about Jose around his Real days.

What a load of rubbish that is.

It is a hyperbole (Sterling obviously wasn't dreadful and Toure wasn't finished yet), but there is no denying that even players like David Silva or De Bruyne never played that well for the club under Pellegrini (or Mancini) as they did in Guardiola's system. In fact, everyone wondered whether it's a good thing to have both in the same squad and thus one must be used on the wing, then the rest is pretty much history. And you could probably make a case for Aguero too, who was still scoring a shitload while contributing more towards the play. Or Fernandinho.

That's why I said what I said afterwards.

Maybe he'll retire early or experience a major blip ala Jose.
