Not every rapper is snoop dogg, or 50 Cent, or even sing.
The music is always evolving, what seems like junk to us now can be the mainstream 10 years from now, even less.
Imagine yourself in the 60's and listening to rap, you'd gonna start thinking the singer is possessed and probably hang them on a tree
Perhaps we're getting old, there are reasons why my dad can never appreciate current music, no matter what. And there's a reason no matter how much I tried I can't never fully appreciate the music of his generation
You just aren't downloading enough. A 200gb harddrive full of music is a substantial item in your posession.
I agree with that, though I think music tends to be overpriced.
The price is so high because of the volume of illegal downloading. It's vicious circle. And one I'm contributing to, between 90-95% of my 70gb music library is illegal downloads. I ony download albums though, and have probably listened to 75% of that 70gb. Modern music's method of the lucky dip, bric-a-brac shit singles is not for me.

As someone who has personally lost out on very hard earned cash via piracy I loathe illegal downloaders.
On the other hand, I also think people should know what they are getting before they pay their own hard earned money on something that doesn't match up to what they were expecting.
It's a conundrum. If only human nature was to be honest and we all actually paid for what what we downloaded and like! We'd all be better off then![]()
I'm not comparing her to my favourite bands either.
I was with a group of six of my girlfriends friends, so you can imagine the shite I had to put up with.
I saw Shakira last year at Glastonbury and again, I have no interest in her music but she was excellent, she didn't need to dress up, she didnt need a crew to arrange fireworks for her or a lighting system, nor did she need a director to sort out a bunch of videos to be played behind her. She just came out in some pretty casual clothing and really built a rapport with the crowd, sang her songs and looked like she was having the time of her life.
None of this "oh I'm so overwhelmed to be playing at glastonberries, gosh let me take it in a minute" bullshit.
Again, Florence last year, not my kind of gig, but if anyone should go to anyone for lessons on how to fill a stage with personality it's her.
Imogen Heap, last year, no gimmicks, just a musician on stage having the time of her life and getting the crowd involved.
Looking at what Beyonce did, not her lighting team, her backing dancers, her video directors, Beyonce, was completely average and underwhelming.
EDIT - Average and underwhelming is a bit hard, her voice was very good and obviously her dancing was also very good, but I really didn't think any better than anything else I had seen.
