People and music tastes

Am I the only who finds it annoying when poeple call a particular genre of music shit when they are clearly not. I mean they cant be, otherwise would that genre exist? Would that genre have fans? No. You may not like them and thats fair enough but I hate it when people turn around to a fan of that genre and say it is shit, very ignorant if you ask me.

I mean, I for example don't like realy realy heavy metal with full on screaming etc but I dont go over to a fan and just class his/her musical preference as shit because to him/her and many others it is clearly not.

Music is all about personal tastes, those tastes should be respected not trashed just because your own does not match.

I love metal, I hate the screaming. Odd combination I know.
 
Not really, explains my scary devotion to Nightwish. Even the harsher male vocals couldn't be classed as screaming.
 
And also explains my desire to inflict a painful end upon Slipknot and Trivium.
 
True, as long as the tune is catchy, good and fun then I don't care what genre it's in. On my Mp4 player I have a whole range of stuff - everything from boybands to girlbands, rap/hip-hop to rock, pop to dance. I have anything from the 60's right through to the current day. I have a lot of RnB though, I would say out of all the genres that would probably be my most favourite, I just enjoy the beats of RnB music :D
 
I wonder if it will ever excist a band that everyone likes. Just like everyone seem to like Monthy Python...
 
probably never will, Elvis and The Beatles came the closest I would've thought.
 
Music is all about tastes and there is good music of all genres, but honestly there is a lot of obvious crap out there and just because people like it doesn't make it any less crap.

The people who like the crap are just stupid.
 
Hip-Hop gets too much stick for the commercial and televsision bullshit, and the ninties parents blaming hip-hop/rap on all their childrens problems, and the downfall of society.

It's a beautiful genre when it's done right and nil give it a chance.
 
I am pretty open minded when it comes to music. I like most forms of rock, can tolerate some country, a little classical, R&B, soul, Motown etc but rap and most hip hop is utter shite.

Are you gay? Nightwish are a fairly poncy band. All fake opera and amateur dramatics. I like slipknot, Trivium not as much but at least they've balls
 
Im in work, i'll check it out later. Trivium, aye they're not the best band around. But slipknot are pretty good, they've written some great songs. But in saying that, i was just using them as an example from above. Ive actually spent all week listening to dillinger escape plan and russian circles. Who both piss on them.

I sometimes really like hip-hop/rap music, then I hear lyrics bragging about how many records they've sold/how much money they've made/how many bitches they've fecked and it just seems so juvenile.

Kris kross were the shit though.

That's sadly what is in the media, and it's shameful.

ALOT of amazing artists out there, and ALOT of amazing music... To start if anyone wants to get into hip-hop, listen to the Roots, and them stem your listening pleasure off group related to them.
 
Heaps of trashy mainstream hip-hop undermines the integrity of the genre as a whole. Unfortunate that it's portrayed as a bunch of drugged up gangstas etc.

Agree. One persons shit, is another person gold. Well, not literally.

Music opinions are subjective.

Besides, there is too much good stuff about to worry about the stuff you dont like.

How come this is always trotted out on every musical discussion and yet never mentioned with film?

Let`s face it, most people are just happy with a good tune, it`s why bands like Travis and Coldplay have been so successful. But passionate music fans want something more.

Hip-hop as a genre is garbage. It sounds OK on a tiny car stereo or crappy iPod headphones but put it through a really good AMP with two really good audio channels and most (99%) of it falls apart.

Interesting. I've come across a lot of criticisms against hip hop over the years, but that's a new one.
