Pedro: which way will the dominoes fall?

I hope that with Pedro's signing, LVG will finally start appreciating pacey and technically gifted wingers. Which would mean Depay on the left, Pedro on the right, Mata/Herrera behind Rooney.

That would be the idea scenario.

One can always live in hope.

I never understood why managers decide to play players out of position. Its one thing doing it with a player you'll already have and whose career seem going nowhere (ex moving Pirlo from striker to midfielder) but this madness. Blind is no CB, Mata is not RW and Depay is not AMC.

He is playing Memphis as a 10 to accommodate Young in the team. Rightly so that Young hasnt been dropped for Memphis, but that doesn't mean you have to play players out of position, Mata on the wing is more frustrating to me than Blind as CB (I though he did the job against Spurs)

Jeez we're talking about Young not Giggs or Ronaldo. We should let Depay and Young fight for a first team role. If Young is good enough than he will keep Depay out of the team

Sounds like you're certain this will happen. I am way less confident.

He's playing a disjointed attack, with two players out of position, just to fit Ashley Young into the team?

Just think about that for a second, and let it sink in.

If this was Liverpool/City everyone on here would be laughing their tits off.

Depay is our best LW so he should play LW. Pedro would be our best RW so he should play RW. Mata is our best #10 so he should play #10. Rooney is our best CF so he should play CF.

There really shouldn't be much to debate. Yet that almost certainly won't be what we go with.

Too much of commonsense in a single post. That won't please LVG.

That's my point. If Memphis is the right choice for the wing then he should play there ahead of Young, if he's not then he should be on the bench.

Edit- Having a look at my previous post I probably didn't make my point as clear as I thought I did.

Just because LVG put Januzaj and Young at wingback positions for a few preseason games, doesn't mean he has a knack for it. Pedro will be played as a wide forward, and a direct replacement for AdM.

Sad, but ultimately true.

Its becoming clearer and clearer why LVG achieves limited success with his club sides, but leaves them in a good shape.

And honestly its not doing any good to Memphis either. He's a young player who played most of his career as LW and is used to less quality defenders. He should be playing on the flanks were he can have more space to act rather than in a role were he's constantly surrounded by defenders

You won't find me disagreeing with any of that.

What's frustrating is that we're well stocked with no 10s. Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Januzaj, Periera and Rooney can all play there. We only have Young and Depay as LW

If 4-2-3-1:

-----------------Rooney----------------
Memphis--------Mata-------------Pedro
------------------------------------------
-----------Carrick----Bastian-----------

If 4-3-3:

----------------Rooney------------------
Memphis--------------------------Pedro
------------------------------------------
----------Bastian----Herrera------------
------------------------------------------
---------------Carrick--------------------

Exactly how I would line it it. well done sir :) !!

this (although I would replace Carrick with Schneiderlin)

For me Mata is one of our best players when he's a 10, he's most definitely not a winger. I'm not exactly sure why LVG plays the players in the positions he does; the only thing I can think off is he somehow sees it as being best for the team in the long term. Which is worrying.

The longer this transfer drags on the more certain I am it won't happen. There has to be a point where we stop trying to coax players in and start working with what we've got and that date has to be before the end of the transfer window.

He was playing Mata on the right long before Memphis arrived. That was one experiment which actually worked quite well. For a while, anyway.

Plus that's not something he's just invented - Moyes and several Chelsea managers did the same. As did his Valencia coach as far as I remember.

It worked well when Herrera was there too. Memphis - Herrera - Mata behind Rooney would be class. Hopefully it won't be long before we see it.

If we sign a Kane perhaps 4-4-2 with 2 pacey wingers .......who would have thought it. Full circle.

Perhaps he's giving him game time and getting him match fit whilst also trying to cover the lack of pace with Mata playing right and the less adventurous Darmian behind him. The plan being to move him onto the wings once all additions are added and settled in.

Is this still fantasy or is actually going to happen? To me it seems like we were interested, but not anymore and now the media are just dragging it on.
I'd love for us to sign him, but I have no clue where this transfer is at. It's too quiet.

------------------Romero

-----Smalling----Blind-------Evans

Pedro-----Carrick----Morgan-----Young

------------------Memphis

---------------Chicharito-----Rooney

What the feck kind of retardation is this? That formation, Pedro as a wing back, dropping Darmian, and re-introducing fecking Johnny Evans into our backline?

Post such idiocy again and I will track you down and poke you in the eye with the saltiest twiglet I can find. You stupid stupid cnut :nono::mad:

Btw, this post is deliberately over the top as a joke at how objectionable your post was, not a serious dig or threat! /hug :p

Why haven't we met the release fee?

We are idiots if we haven't. ... a steal at 30 million Euro and would immediately fill a Di Maria shaped hole

For me personally

Majority of games

Rooney
Memphis - Mata - Pedro
Bastian/Carrick - Herrera

Harder games

Rooney
Memphis - Morgan - Herrera - Pedro
Carrick/Bastian

Then he should give him game time on the flanks. He will find less opposition there and more space to exploit. Also Darmian can be adventurous. He spend most of his career as a wingback so he can go forward and do the damage if only asked to

I think 4-4-2 is dead and buried. Our midfield would be run over especially without a player like Ji Sung Park on the flanks who can help in terms of workrate.

Think we will learn quite a bit from the match tonight, if he comes off as a sub then it will be interesting to see if he waves to the crowd as a goodbye. Not a nailed on indicator but a fairly likely scenario if we are to get him soon after the game, we could end up announcing it after the match.

Should they win I expect you'll get a better indication of his intentions during the celebrations
