Paulo Dybala

Actually yes in hindsight you do look at almost everyone of those players and understand why they flopped

Di Maria - never wanted to be here, and was played anywhere but the position he excelled at in Madrid.
Sanchez - when he was bought all fans assumed he would play RW, alas the manager played him in the one position where we were already stacked which in turn had knock on effects for the two young players making that position their own
Schweinsteiger - legs gone, Bayern practically giving him away
Falcao - off the back of at least one major knee injury
Kagawa - to this day I dont understand why we bought a number 10 when he was never going to play ahead of Rooney or Welbeck. Fergie even said before we signed him we wouldn't be changing our style of play to accommodate him

Now you'll obviously argue that hindsight is a wonderful thing but you wouldn't of needed hindsight had proper scouting gone on before hand

I remember watching or reading an interview with Muelensteen where he said they tried to sign Sneijder in 2011 with the plan to play him behind Rooney who they wanted to move back up front. Sneijder didn't materialize so they moved onto Kagawa with the same plan.

Obviously signing RVP messed that plan up, but its possible that that was an opportunity that came out of the blue that was just too good to turn down.

By all account he's sound,in that regard.

That’s good to hear. If he’s never really aspired to play in England, he’s gonna need a positive and professional attitude coming over here if he hopes to succeed.

Because you think it’s 10 years ago where players will play for £100k.

And fail to realize Dybala’s wage request is below what he’d get from PSG/Madrid/Barca (£300k range) because Pogba is getting £290k and setting the bar.
I don't have a problem with Dybalas wage requests whatever they may be. I was just replying to someone who said they hoped he'd be playing for the badge, that he definitely won't be playing for the badge.

no, we don't have to
especially players that don't really want to be here

Who said he doesn't want to come to United ? Because he liked a tweet from a fan ? Because some journalist writes he wants to stay? Stop believing everything you read as then peddling it as the truth . We all all have no idea what Dybala wants . The next 48 hours will tell us

Is he not just a more technical Lingard, and faster Mata? Isn't that what we wanted anyway? However, our press may be effected with Lingard not being in the team.

Why would his agent be in London if he was reluctant to come ?
If i had to guess, i'd say most journo's are now covering their rear ends with the whole "he's not keen on moving" etc. If he decides not to move, then they've got a fallback option to keep their reputations intact.
If he does come, they can then say "He spoke to Sarri, was told he's not part of the plans and wanted regular football" etc. Clever by them really, and covers them each way.

If he genuinely wasn't interested, we'd have known by now and the deal would most likely be dead in the water, or talks of Juve offering cash only.

Any concerns about his character/professionalism over the years?

I did sound design for a series of Adidas adverts and the company who films them said Dybala was really nice and cooperative. Having said that, they said Messi doesn't talk with anyone and is only willing to do one take so I'm not sure how much you can read into it.

First time I've read this.
Thought the Sneijder rumours were just a full of hot air.
Remember SAF getting quite annoyed with the rumours. Think he told one reporter to f*ck off

I don't get it. He's apparently reluctant to come here. This alone, never mind ridiculous wages, should be the sign for us to run the feck away.
I don't understand this attitude. Do you expect Dybala to leave CL contenders Juve enthusiastically to play Europa League with us, preferably taking a wage cut too? We'll be restricted to signing Championship players like James if that's the case. To get back to the top, we need to sign top players because right now only PP qualifies as one. This is an opportunity to get a genuinely world class player simply because he doesn't fit Sarri's tactical plans. We got insanely lucky and should just get it done instead of worrying about big name flops of the past.

Miserable gits are starting early. Why can't you let us muppets run wild and moan a hit later?
It's one thing for them to be moapy and miserable. But they are going around trying to make everyone miserable. Telling people they are going to be dissapointed and to curb enthusiasm. They should all just feck off with their miserable selves and hang out in the Longstaff thread.

Messi’s known to be a bit of a diva isn’t he?

Well said! As with any transfer it may not work but the gifts he could bring are many! He is a proper 'bums off seats' player and we need another. He is world class and can play anywhere in the biggest problem area we have, the final 3rd of the pitch. The man can create goals and can definitely score them. I just don't get any reluctance for this move ... if, of course, it comes off!

Yeah, can't wait for Dybala in United shirt  Never thought this summer would have a happy ending after all!

Like Liverpool were when they picked up Van Dijk, Robertson, Mane, Salah, Firminho?
Or City were when they signed players like Laporte, Bernardo Silva, De Buyne and Sane?

The players are out there, you dont have to rely on the big clubs cast offs

Lingard is not critical to anything we do at this club, we'll be just fine without him in the team, better infact.

Sorry i meant when Heinze tried to go to Liverpool. He did everything possible to leave us and go down the east lancs. Some of you must remember how much we hated him when he wanted to go. Fergie made sure his days was was done as a United player then. I think Heinze even tried to go to court to get his transfer request.

I remember watching him score on his debut for us too like it was yesterday. I thought 'we've got a good one here'. How wrong was i.

Don't know much about him when he sod off and dont frankly care.

He was very good for us for a while and became one of fan favorites. Following his injury he never returned to his best at United and eventually we replaced him with Evra. If it wasn't for his transfer request I think most Man Utd fans would still like him though.

Exactly. Ok we get it you're negative but leave the rest of us with your constant weltschmerz.

if the accounts of his general professionalism are true then I'm actually optimistic about this transfer working. I see a talented young player who has great close control and can hit the ball early or with little or no backlift (in that respect he reminds me of Ole).

From the highlights I've seen he seems to be a positive and happy player on the pitch with film star good looks and looking to settle down family wise. If he has had a dip or feels undervalued under Juve/ Sarri then I can see Ole providing him with the necessary self belief and positivity to re-ignite his career with us.

Messi’s known to be a bit of a diva isn’t he?

The impression I got was he was aloof to the point of rudeness but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that his English isn't great and he dislikes production process.

Salah was a Chelsea reject who rediscovered himself in Serie A. He wasn't a cheap purchase by Liverpool either, although it's obviously a bargain in hindsight.
City wouldn't achieve anything without Aguero, a young Argentine star who also cost a lot money at the time. Dybala could be the same player for us.

Getting rid of Lukaku is good thing for us but if that means we're getting player who does not want to play for the team and twisting club's hands for money it's looking very much like the Sanchez saga and we all know how that worked out.

Can he take a good set-peice ?
Please say yes as I dont think I can take another Rashford blaster flying into row Z.
Yeah, he's excellent at them. I look forward to Rashford taking them anyway and blasting them into row Z. Much like Ronaldo when he arrived at Juve and started taking them ahead of Pjanic and Dybala. They went from two of Europe's best freekick takers to one of it's worst with one signing. If we are lucky we can go the other way. Although Mata actually has one of the best conversation rates in Europe from freekicks, he just rarely gets to take them.
