Paulo Dybala

I hope he isn't another Alexis Sanchez where he won't fit in any position.
Where will Dybala play anyway?

Think the Sanchez problem was him being rubbish all of a sudden, could have played him anywhere and he still would’ve shit the bed.

Well if Lingard can start for us I’m sure Dybala walks into the team and takes his place.

I don't think Dybala is a player I'd want to invest money in, especially given his drop of form last season.

Change my mind, because I can't find myself to be positive about signing this guy.

If you have that kind of mindset no point in trying to change your mind.

His drop in for was because Juventus played differently to accommodate Ronaldo, it's not like he suddenly became shit and got benched.

How insane would this lineup be?

Ed going for glory !

He can easily play ST, CAM or RW in our system.

Reading the Juventuz forum, a lot of them seem to directly link his underperformances with being started out wide? So him playing as a RW would worry me.

Don't mean to piss on your chips but just thinking if that would get the best out of Dybala based purely on some of the comments I've read in this thread.

Him playing out wide in a Juventus team under Allegri, who are built to accomodate size (for Ronaldo), would be completely different to playing out wide in the system and tactics we are trying to employ.

The goal is not to have him lumping balls into giants and not having to start attacks from so deep. We are trying to employ tactics of running, pressing high and finding attackers in advanced positions.

If we sign him for a big transfer and play him on the right wing this wont end well. He can play there but not to the level of an expensive star player. If we want that from him he plays in the middle

I mean, I'm asking because I do want someone to tell me why my opinion is wrong. What's the harm in that?

If I told you outright that Dybala is this and that, then sure, but I just asked.

Havent watched him play have you?
Well he isnt a natural right winger and it definitely isnt his favoured spot. And he is more of a second striker than a traditional #10, and from what Ive seen doesnt have the workrate or pressing ability to be our #10. Well maybe Ole can bring it out from him like he did with Martial. Dybala just feels like a luxury player.

I know Youtube is not always the best way to judge a player but watching a few of his performances from last season, underwhelming:

That’s for a 4231 where he’d obviously be played wide with license to interchange positions but his previous seasons heat maps do indicate he likes playing there majority of the time.

442 diamond would be a more natural fit.

I'm not sure why they would want rid of him. Wouldn't he be ideal as the Hamsik in Sarri's Napoli system, or would he be expected to play deeper than a traditional #10?

He has a bit of that Martial inconsistency along with moments of pure magic, great technique and excellent finishing/composure. I feel he'd be a replacement for Mata though with that extra bit of vision and quality, and a huge upgrade too, I might add. Begs the question though - why extend the Spaniard's contract unless this is an unexpected and unplanned move? It doesn't fill me with confidence, although he is versatile enough and some of our other attackers (James, Greenwood, Chong, Gomes) have plenty of time to develop in the future.

If he was playing Matas position though then that wouldn't really be 'out wide' would it? He plays almost as a ten but slightly to the right, hence our typical lack of width on the right. Dybala could probably make an impact there.

Exactly, he's best through the middle and that's where he should play, no question about it.

True. Though a lot of posters seem to intensely dislike that asymmetrical set up (while I'm fine with it personally depending on how it functions).

The pessimist in me believes that Juve and United are creating a ploy here to get other clubs to play ball.

Juve want Spurs to up their offer for Dybala
United want Inter to stop messing about over the Rom price
United are trying to show Sporting they have interests other than Bruno

This is my glass completely empty and shattered perspective. It helps me when things don't work out.

Oh for God's sake, how can swapping Lukaku for Dybala be anything other than fantastic news.
The mind boggles with some people:wenger::lol:.

Would be way more effective with our options at right back now.

Was Lingard wearing his socks low today as a not-so-discreet sign that we are signing Dybala?

This makes sense on zero levels, I wouldnt mind being proven wrong but I dont see Juve being this stupid and the fact that this is all being done in the open makes me doubt it even more.

How doesn't it? This has nothing to do with who they think is the better player. It's who suits what they're going for more. Dybala simply doesn't fit in to what they're going for with Ronaldo there, Lukaku does. It's just a coincidence Dybala fits in to what we are going for.
