Paulo Dybala

He wants to join, otherwise his agent wouldnt be flying over. He will listen to the contract offer and the plan for him. It is for us to convince to join him. He would like to stay, but once he realises that he is better off here and the role we can give him, he will happily take it. I doubt Aguero and Silva dreamt about City, but in the end they joined because of money and project.

When Manchester United invite you to talk money, as an agent you have that conversation. Whether or not your client is serious about joining them is not nearly as important as getting offers on the table for future negotiations with any other club.

That's not necessarily true. Just because his agent is over here doesn't mean that he wants to join. More to do the fact that both Juve and United want this to happen so he's being thrown into it.

I hope you're right of course because i would like him here, and maybe he will settle in when everything is said and done. That Di Maria transfer burned me good and i just don't want another one of those on our hands. On paper it's a fantastic deal for us and i can't quite believe that Juve actually want this to happen. Lukaku for Dybala? Mental.
His agent being over here does mean that he’s open to the deal though... assuming if his terms are right

true, good input

Am I the only one who is not particularly keen on him with our pressing style?

He looks slow and out of place within the fast and dynamic vision that Ole has of the team.

Also, if he comes does this mean Fernandes won't come?

I think it's just a big name signing that you can't say no to, but isn't the best choice.

The Maguire thread titles have been great. This thread deserves some sort of muppettastic title, even if we just get our hearts broken tomorrow

Staying might be his preference but he could also be somewhat open to a new challenge.

If he had an important role at Juve, he would prefer to stay, but if not, he is open to going somewhere where he could be a key player. That somewhere is looking like United is favourites, though I wouldnt be surprised if in that scenario, PSG tries to go for him too and then it's a 50/50 shot between the 2 clubs.
Cheers. It just seems weird to me that his agent would be negotiating with us, yet they are still waiting for his decision? Surely he gave the decision for his agent to negotiate?

Keep Pogba and bring in Dybala, Maguire and Fernandes and we are sucking disel.

If the deal goes through, I think we will see him playing in that no 10. Probably play as RW or False 9 against certain opposition if we change our formation. Basically could be the end of both Lingard & Mata in starting XI.

More info from Fabrizio Romano.

Dybala’s agent is at work in UK
- The agent of Paulo Dybala is now in UK. He’s going to talk with Manchester United about a possible deal and especially about the contract bid.
- Paulo since last May has always said to his agents and to Juventus that his desire was to stay. He doesn’t want to leave Juventus. ⚪⚫
- Juventus directors are ready to sell him and that’s why Dybala is considering to start talks about personal terms with other clubs like Man United.
- Dybala will take the decision about his future on next days. Man United are waiting and would like to start talks with Juventus about a swap with Romelu Lukaku (Inter are in tue race for “Big Rom” but still no agreement with Man Utd); Juve are waiting for Paulo’s decision too. ⁉️

That's worryingly similar to the Di Maria situation at Real Madrid when Madrid were trying to make room and balance the books for James.

Nobody would be said.

I think Mata will play deeper this season.

Really hope this isn't true, if it is then we've learnt nothing from Di Maria, Falcao and the other disasters from the last 6 years.

he can see what his client is worth then use that against other clubs

He's probably open to it, but needs discussions with United to see what we'd offer (think he currently earns around 100k less than what Pogba does for example, so moving to United, I'm sure he'd be looking for a pretty big pay bump on top of everything else). Big transfer between 2 big clubs, probably wants to discuss everything first and weigh out his options, rather than a "yes" and change his mind when it doesn't go through.

He's probably unsure about moving, so these discussions won't just be about giving him the right salary but we'll also be trying to show why signing for United is such a big deal. He's got to be at least somewhat interested if he's allowed negotiations to start. He'll need to see if what we're offering can convince him to leave Juventus for us. At least, that's the way I see it.

Falcao was a loan, hardly a disaster.. was a great opportunity for the emergence of Rashford, actually

As great as this sounds, I'm taking away the key information from Di Marzio that Dybala wants to stay. History shows its not always a good idea to buy Argentines who aren't sold on our club.. Not that they're all the same but I would be much more positive if he was bought into this transfer as much as the clubs are.

Surely give the club chance to convince him eh?

As said above, doubt Aguero and Silva flew in to City dreaming of playing their but were sold on the vision and the extra money of course.

Yeah, that's my concern with it all. Real sense of deja vu with this. Great player and a swap deal for Lukaku is almost too good to be true, but Di Maria is very much in my mind.

A live look at Woodward talking to his agent:

(I swear there used to be a Woodward version of this)

Obviously we don't want a repeat of Di Maria, but its not like he is the only player that has ever been talked into a transfer. Even when it comes to huge names, I read a few days ago that Ronaldo never wanted to play for Inter before signing and that went okish.

And if he wasn't at least open to the idea of a move then his agent wouldn't be publicly meeting with Woodward face to face.

And a big thing for the Di Maria situation was that he and Van Gaal didn't get along at all with in play style and personalities. Di Maria had won the champions league and had his peak season, Dybala has a lot to prove still and is younger and has plenty of trophies left to win. Just because there are some similarities as there will always be when doing big transfers between big clubs, doesn't mean that the end result will be the same at all. There is a lot more hunger in Dybala as to why he would be a success here and a big difference in coaching personalities and play style compared to why Di Maria flopped.

Dybala is being forced out of his club and has a mammoth club in the waiting for him. He shouldn't need any convincing.

Silva and Augero needing heads turned for a tiny club like City at the time wasn't really comparable to this surely.

Yes, that's what worries me as well. We've been burnt with a deal like this before, would rather have a player that is pushed out of his club.

Falcao was rehabbing from a pretty big knee injury. I'm always surprised by the fact that people always ignore that fact, he shouldn't have move anywhere and Mendes did a really poor counselling job.

I'm sure if the money is great then he'd be open to it, yeah. But then you got to ask what his motivations are for moving here. I realise i'm being rather pessimistic here, but our recent dealings in the transfer window hasn't filled me with optimism. I'm not totally naive and i realise that many footballers move for the money, but this one just seems off.

Except Di Maria was a Woodward galactico signing and not a LVG signing but Dybala is a Solksjaer wanting him signing. Big difference there.

this is another ADM, no two ways about it

That's not actually true though, LVG was namechecking Di Maria and claiming that he was the type of player that he was missing early in the summer.

Juve are serious contenders for CL, they pretty much win League and domestic cup every year. Why would you want to leave that to play Thursday night football? I don't get why people are surprised Dybala isn't pushing for a move here.
