2010 onward, we had Scholes - Keane/Carrick/Butt - Rio - Neville - Rooney, and subs like Neville, Brown, Cleverly, Hargreaves, O'Shea, Evans, Young, Jones.

This is largely selective, though. Keane was gone in 2006 (and isn't actually British...), Scholes wasn't always playing in his later years, while many of the players you've mentioned were either decent utility players, or average players who had the occasional alright spell. I'd hardly say that Jonny Evans or Ashley Young were an important part of our core.

If I had to list the important players post-2000 (or some of them), I'd say they were Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, RVN, Scholes, Giggs, RVP, Carrick and a few more I've probably forgotten. Only some in there are British, as is the case now with Smalling being a key part of our team.

The British core was good. It's not as good as everybody believes and it's extremely expensive and there isn't enough of them to be on one team.

Bale, Ali and to an extent Kane are the talented British players to have.

Rio, Scholes, Carrick, Keane, Rooney, Giggs, Beckham, Neville, Irwin, etc. Those are top class players, let alone just top British players.

Why can Spurs have many more than United, though? We are bigger team, traditionally British oriented, and can offer much better wages.

Yes I believe the girl on Twitter over every reliable source from Italy.

How does buying someones sponsor rights work out? Adidas should fecking pay up for that one.

Will probably be worth it though, Woodie will have his mug on every packet of noodles sold from South Africa to the North Pole.

Two of them are Irish.

Roy Keane and john oshea aren't British. Ireland became an independent country in 1912.

Develop young players, or let them go for cheap, and buy them back for 120m pounds.

How this is being seen as a great thing is baffling.

It's incredibly annoying to have to pay this much for him, but the club will cope no doubt. And due to that, it's fantastic to be signing one of the most talented midfielders in world football right now. It's been a long time since we've signed a midfielder who could be described as such, especially one only entering his prime years. Easy to understand why people are so hyped.

Nope

British Isles...very different, however point is, United usually had the best Irish players (Keane, O'Shea, Irwin), best Scottish player (Fletcher), Welsh (Giggs), English (take your pick). But the countries aren't producing these players anymore. Plus, the scouting restrictions from a geographic standpoint doesn't help anymore.

it's not.

we fecked up. OK?
SAF was an idiot.
The board were idiots.
We fecked up.

It's costing us. We'll have to live with it. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Pogba has every chance of making back his fee. And I'm not taking about fecking shirt sales. I'm taking about trophies, which is the whole purpose of a football club.

He's a great player. I just don't see him ever being "worth" this amount. The fact we'd bring him back for that amount is galling.

You honestly can't see why people are excited?

Seriously?

And this is why I don't come into the Transfer forum. I'll comment in the Manutd forum once/if it's confirmed.

Anyway, Pogba...

Wow, Juve are amazing, the world record is smashed and they are STILL negotiating nitty gritty. That is next level hardcore dealing!

You're probably right, but that doesn't mean Madrid fans are now all butthurt because we didn't sign him (as a lot od people here seem to think). Some of us are for sure, some of us are not. I myself am worried because we need a DM and if we don't sign one, we'll suffer.
Again, I agree with you. Depth at DM is certainly a need for Madrid. I'm sure you will add some quality in that position before the window closes.

That wasn't what you said though.:smirk:

Even then though, I think our acquiring of the best players from each home nation (and slightly beyond) was generally more down to chance than being an actual deliberate move. I'm fine for players like Pogba to form the core of our team - if you want Brits to do it, then Britain needs to start producing better footballers than they are currently.

Juve are flat-track bullies that steal your lunchbox then sell it back to you for a premium price.
