I hope we sign Andre Gomes instead of Pogba. He wasn't even great in our youth teams. I wouldn't be surprised if he dissapoints again at Euro 16 like he did in the Worldcup a few years back.

I don't get this mate, is Pogba overrated because at his best he's spectacular? Probably, but he has been a big part of a very successful Juve side that has won multiple leagues back to back and got to the CL final, by contrast Gomes is roughly the same age and hasn't done a single thing of note.

I've said for a while he is one overrated fecker. I remember watching a CL game a couple years ago and the commentator was wanking over him. He literally lost the ball every time he had it.

This has got Real Madrid written all over it.
I think so too. I would love for a fairytale return, but the kid is just too ambitious, and that was part of the reason why he left us in the first place. Not sure if even Mourinho's temptation can pull this off at least not until next year, but if he goes to Madrid then we can finally put this one to rest.

We have no chance if Madrid are interested. We only stand a chance if they want to stick with their midfield options and splash out on a forward instead.

At least he is a non-changeable starter for the French national team and Juventus. Look what happened to our so called best youth after class of 92, "ADNAN JANUZAJ". A complete flop who cannot even get games because he's so shite.

For me Gomes has majestic touch and technical ability. On the ball he reminds me of a young Zidane. He has it all to prove but potentially looks a fantastic talent that could be a world beater under the right tutelage.

Our best youth after the class of 92 was Ravel Morrison

He's still only potential and we have a lot of that, Pogfba has shown he can get it done at the top level already. Gomes could just as easy be the next Gourcuff as Zidane IMO, he disappeared last season when things got tough at Valencia.

You make it sound like all what you mentioned was because of Pogba alone. Granted the lad has scored a few worldies and has great talent, but people treat him like he is the second coming or something.

Tell me, if you was to swap Pogba with Gomes in Juves successful period, do you think Juve wouldn't have achieved what they have? By that I mean winning the league and getting to a CL final.

I believe Gomes under Mourinho will be fantastic.

No I didn't, I said that he was a big part of it which clearly indicates he didn't do it alone. He's a big player who effects games regularly so the evidence is there that he was an important part of a successful tram and I've seen nothing from Gomes to suggest he'd have the same impact at Juve as Pogba had.

Fair enough mate, I'm just going off what I've seen up to this point and I just don't think mentally Gomes has that extra edge that big game changers like Pogba have.

Class player.
But somehow, I would rather spend that money on someone like Krychowiak & Pjanic.

Which games?

Seriously, I actually am interested to know mate, as every time I have watched him he doesn't seem to do this. Mind you I have only watched him in the CL and not the cannon fodder he's played in the league.

Pogba influences games by doing something exceptional, he doesn't influence games with his general play, for some reason people pretend that he does the latter. If your team isn't functional Pogba won't help you much.

He once did a roulette against Chievo, mate...

When you say exceptional, so you mean like a pass, or a goal?

I watch Juve most weeks but if you consider the teams he plays against in Serie A all garbage then fair enough, as far as the CL goes I'd say Morata has been their best big game player in that competition over the last 2 seasons and everyone here thinks he's crap lol.

This type of player though we have been missing since Ronaldo left, he also IMO will get to the stage where his general play influences games too

The underrating of Pogba due to losing him is on another level.
Well not really. I was saying the same last week before it came out Real was interested. But ok then...

You hit the nail on the head

Guys it's not like we have a choice in the matter because virtually everyone would choose Pogba over Gomes. Sadly we won't be presented with that choice and he will go to Madrid, City or PSG. I thought people would have learned after the Vidal, Ramos and Fabregas pipe dreams.

The over-rating of Pogba is on another level on the caf.

I wouldn't say I'm overrating him, he has been a top performer for his side, I don't see how this is debatable. On top of that if we were comparing him with Verratti, Koke or Gundogan then sure, but the comparison is to a player in Andre Gomes who is the same age and hasn't done anything.

Pogba is a lot of things, and not a lot of things. It's difficult to objectively measure a player's quality, but a lot of people seem to attribute qualities to Pogba that he doesn't have.

That was never my point though mate, I am sure hre'll go to Madrid and we'll be lumbered with Gomes, I was just discussing the comparison going on in here.

So we sign Ibrahimovic, all the while being told Pogba is interested, Raiola uses us to drive the price higher and then he goes to Madrid or whoever Raiola actually wanted him to end up at all along. Sound about right?

While I believe that Madrid is the favorite to sign him, there's still a big chance that deal falls through. Famously Perez absolutely despises Mino Raiola who is Pogba's agent (takes an a*sehole to know another one I suppose) and is loathe to deal with him. There's still a chance for a club willing to drive through that confidence gap and sign him. Will still have to give Juve a world record for the player though.

That's true, he's like a midfield Bale or Ronaldo, he has big moments within games that turn them, but he's not a tempo controlling CM like Verratti.

I never compared him to Gomes,

I wouldn't like to see us waste €100m on someone who I believe isn't as good as he's being made out to be.

Well not really. I was saying the same last week before it came out Real was interested. But ok then...

I meant losing him from our hands when we had him. But anyway, I don't blame people if they fail to see his abilities due to some of the hyperbole that do gets spouted about him. He does still need to improve aspects of his game. Especially being that consistent beast for the whole 90 minutes, or match after match. Also feel he gets unfair criticism because people expect Messi like performances when he plays a Bayern or a Barca. But I do see a lot more criticism because of bitterness as well. May not be you, may not be everyone.

You said you'd rather we got Gomes who is essentially the same player only not as good.

Realistically we would be looking at £75 mill to sign him. Is he really that much better than Gomes? A player that most likely will stay with us, and not start staging "I have always dreamt of Real Madrid" stories in the media with his agent in two years time?

I dont know what Gomes will cost us, but say half of what Pogba will cost, and about half in wages.

When you say exceptional, so you mean like a pass, or a goal?

That's the beauty of Pogba, it can be anything, a pass, a goal, dribbling 4 or 5 players, stopping a counter attack, he can do it all but his game is still immature. Pogba is young and people are incredibly impatient with him, they see him do things that he doesn't do or can't do on a regular basis yet. People should watch his game against Cameroon, he was lost, completely lost and if it wasn't for Deschamps helping him, he would have drown.

In all honesty, Pogba would be a great investment given that we are not really spending much on other players. In fact, we would probably greatly reduce our net spend of buying Pogba and a few others cheaper players by offloading any combination of Mata, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Blind, Fellaini, Valencia, et al

That is true. But he is incredibly well rounded though. But of course there are strengths and weaknesses.
