Paul Pogba / turned down United offer of 300k as “nothing”

No way will PSG pay €80m for him, daylight robbery if they do.

To any and all PSG fans reading this forum, please disregard the bolded part.

Pogba is one of the best players in the world and, as such, commands such a fee even in the last year of his contract and you and your club are to be commended for having the class and wherewithal to make such a fine purchase.

Can we stop with the pretense Pogba has been shit for us? He might not have lived up to expectations, but that doesn't mean he has been poor or even average, not by any stretch. We will struggle to replace him, yet some of you lunatics will have us believe we've been playing with 10 men for the last 5 years.

I don't think so, no. Not playing with 10 men but he's underperformed badly compared to his potential over the last two years and has been injury prone. Barely played in more than 50% of league matches over two years (42 out of 76) and has scored 4 league goals in this time.

Absolutely the correct time to get rid of him for anything > 50m, the idea that he deserves a massive pay rise is a joke.

I want Paul to stay, I think if we get a decent DM who can cover the ground then with him and Bruno we could be an amazing attacking force in midfield.

Imagine spending £90m on a player 5 years ago who's performances have mixed the good and the bad and is running down his contract so he can leave the club on a free for a 2nd time; Then there's simpletons who wonder why he's not liked.
Using "simpleton" word to describe people who want Paul to stay when your club's midfield is Fred-McTominay with Matic and Pereira as subs. Well done.

Paul Pogba out of form and without desire to play is better than any our midfielder (except Bruno of course). Losing him would be disaster for our goals for next season

Pogba out and Saul in? Would be great if it happens
I used to be a big Saul fan but he has definitely regressed. Maybe a change of scenery would be good for him.

But in any case Pogba is better than a prime Saul. I would love to have both if that’s an option :D

It's looking like we're going to sign Varane for €50-€60m who also has 1 year left on his contract. Pogba is way more marketable with a much bigger brand than him so I can see why the club would ask for that much. If €80m is too much for Pogba then we are seriously getting ripped off by Madrid for Varane.

Pogba for as good as he can be at times creates unbalance in the formation, he doesn't really have a position so just means we end up shoe horning him in and moving other players out.

Pogba too good to sit on the bench but fitting him in to the team without leaving out either Rashford/James or Fred/McT has been a problem, and yes you can criticise anyone one of those other players if you want, but the bottom line is on the wing Pogba doesn't offer any width so comes inside and compacts the midfield, in defensive midfield he is too sloppy in defence and his mistakes have lost us and France goals, further forward in midfield he occupies the same space as Bruno, so Bruno gets pushed wider to the right, Pogba often holds onto the ball too long slowing attacks and losing possession, on the upside when he is good he does things nobody else in the team is capable of, he is the epitome of the girl with the curl.

Yes losing him means losing intermittent genius and a potential creative threat, but as for putting the pressure all onto Bruno, when last season did Pogba play instead of Bruno? it was always alongside.

Creating a more stable shape and formation will be a positive. especially if we can sign or bring through another midfielder who can fit into the team as opposed to having the team fit around them

Expecting nuance over the tenure of Paul Pogba is the impossible job, really.

He has had his fair share of great and poor performances but the issue is he is simply not fitting in well in the direction the team is going in. At the end of the season, his main position was LW, which post-Sancho will also become harder to get.

And the fact that he has given of the impression that he is not fully into the "project" (got I hate this term).

That's why some (including me) think it may not be bad idea to sell him and get a solid midfielder who suits the team more.

That's fine. My comments weren't so much directed at those who feel it might probably be time to move him on, but rather those that believe he's been a waste of space or is somehow detrimental to the club.

You're not wrong.

If we sell Pogba and bring in no one in the centre of the park, our first XI will be weaker than last season, despite Sancho and (Varane).

Central midfield is the reason why - even when results go our way - we still don't look in control, we don't pass the 'eye test' on being the 2nd best team in the league.

For all his faults, a Pogba at 50% is better than any of the other 3 options at their absolute pinnacle.

Couple all that with Bruno's undiscussible but very obvious nose-dive in form, and we'd essentially have built a formidable back 4, formidable front 4, but nothing to link the two together with.

United aren’t selling him for €50m and PSG won’t offer much more than that

he’ll be sticking around for this season barring any drastic change.

People have short memories. Pogba at 50% is absolute guff and a liability to the team. Even his teammates in Euro 2020 were getting annoyed with him. Pogba trying 100% is a player that we want to keep.

We have a few young players if given the chance could turn out to save us millions. Ole and his sidekicks keep informing us of their talents. Then he should give them their chance. Other top clubs do it, why can't we. Amad, Mejbri, Elanga, and Shoretire, are examples

City = Fodden
Chelsea = Mount

Just 2 who have turned out to be brilliant players.
Like Rashford, McTominay, Henderson and Greenwood?

Get rid of the virus, sick to the teeth of him.

If we don't see now he walks away for nothing after no doubt giving us a half arsed season. Cut our losses, admit he was a mistake and bring in a replacement.

I wish we had the record of City and Chelsea for bringing through academy players.

I would prefer it if we sold Pogba and brought a midfielder who would be better for us in the long run. If we do get 50 odd million from PSG, I think we should throw the kitchen sink for Frenkie De Jong. He is a phenomenal midfielder and this is probably the only time he can be prized away from Barca.

On the flip side, Pogba with a year left on his contract is probably a motivated Pogba who, for his own selfish reasons, would have to perform well this season to get one big money long(ish) contract with us or someone else. So this isn’t a bad scenario for us.

We have brought through more youth players than City and Chelsea can even dream of in their dreams.

That would be sick. I’d pay him those wages because of longevity and the fact he’s exactly what we’ve been crying out for.

Contract length and marketability aren't really the point i'm making, Pogba just isnt worth that sort of money in my eyes.

Those 2 clubs don’t come anywhere near us in terms of bringing through youth.

Right? With a player like De Jong, we could stop shitting our collective pants when we have possession in our own half.

Part of me thinks this news might be a last-ditch attempt at an improved contract offer from us because he wants to stay/knows realistically no-one can afford him (I'm very surprised if he's dead set on walking away with Sancho and Varane incoming, to be honest).

Part of me also thinks he should just sling his hook and then we can reinvest funds.

It's sounding more and more like PSG will go for him and we'll let him go for a decent bid. Too much smoke at this stage for it to be just bullshit rumours. We've also got a semi decent relationship with PSG, so I can see it happening.

I can understand the frustrations with him, and if someone wants to say he hasn't justified his wage and transfer fee, then sure, they can make a credible argument for that.

You can't correlate how much we've paid to his talent. If we bought him back for a packet of crisps does that suddenly make him incredible? It's already been paid. And a United team with Pogba is a weaker team.
Yeah totally agree, the price we paid shouldn't dictate how we view his worth in the team or what he's brought to the table. Yet it does.

I can understand people being wary of what we pay him on his new contract, however what would it cost us to upgrade on Pogba? The outlay to purchase and the wages would eclipse his renewal entirely. And, my point being, in all likelihood we wouldn't end up with a better player than him. The counter-argument to that is 'we would end up with a player that fits us better' but all that means to me is we will settle for mediocre defensive minded players in a midfield three, ending up with Bruno being the sole provider of creativity from midfield.

Apart from defensively where Pogba is lazy and loses possession in dangerous areas trying to be too cute

Agree, he isn't worth that.

Just making a point as to why the club would value him at €80m if they are prepared to pay €50 to €60m for Varane who's in a similar position. If PSG are about to lose Mbappe to Madrid maybe they would be prepared to pay it just to save face. Pogba is a superstar in France so he would soften the blow from losing Mbappe and please the PSG fans.

Once the Varane deal goes though (tempting fate) I think United's sole interest throughout the remainder of the window will be in cutting down the squad and bringing money in.

I honestly don't give a feck if he stays or goes. Most talented player in our squad? Yes. But most effective? Not even close. Bruno has nowhere near the natural talent Pogba has but you can see the elite mentality and the difference it makes on the pitch.

Paul's been here 5 years and we're still arguing about his best position and trying to work around his limitations.

Agree, we should sell him this summer.

He'll be a massive distraction next year especially if he signs a pre contract with PSG in January.
