Paul Pogba / turned down United offer of 300k as “nothing”

They'll still need to meet La Liga's FFP requirements and their first target is clearly Mbappe.
Bale wage gone, Modric wage gone, thats a fair few tens of millions off their wage bill and 2 very marketable players in on free transfers, they'll be fine I'd guess.

They should also have higher revenues this year since they are supposed to be able to partially use Bernabeu after September.

I don't think there's any doubt he'll have suitors, whether they'll be keen to offer any more than we are, that's the question. Maybe PSG would be silly enough as it matters little to them, but many clubs have to think seriously when it comes to Pogba and his agent and the associated costs because he doesn't always deliver.
500k/week is 26m annually, over a 5 year period it's 130m. If you can get a player and pay him half of that (250k/week) you can spend 65m on him and that'll equal 500k/week without a fee over 5 years.
All figures are taken from the air but I'm sure somebody will be doing that calculation next summer on real numbers.

I’m sad that the club will look foolish come next July. Every effort should have been made to sell him long before now with this contract situation looming.

Letting him dictate terms once again and walk away on a free for a second time is just sad, and shouldn’t have been allowed to happen.

He isn’t good enough for this to have happened again.

He's clearly juicing

Go have a look at the difference in his physique before and after the lockdown last year.
Bayern is a saucy club. Even Coutinho packed on a load of muscle whilst there on loan.

It's disappointing that we weren't able to find a buyer this summer. This coming season will be a bit of a circus with the press constantly asking Ole/Pogba where he's going and Raiola making statements every month about how Manchester United are slave drivers who ruin every good player we touch and how Pogba is looking to move clubs so he can play somewhere with ambition etc.

True, but I am not sure this is hitting the point because there is nobody in the market for him at 65 million. We are not even entirely sure if there is anybody in the market for him at a fee closer to the benchmark set by Varane's transfer. They seem happier waiting to see what Pogba does, and that also suits Pogba as they probably think it gives them a great platform for negotiation with us and with anybody else.

The comparison is much more direct in terms of the free transfer, i.e. what we can pay him versus what anybody else can pay him. We are a financial powerhouse in terms of wages. My point was only that I'm not sure there is a queue of clubs lining up to pay more just because he'd be free. We have similar costs involved in his resigning in terms of the agent fee. The difference may be that we may not be inclined to push the limits having been burnt in this situation previously.

Wonder if this thread will be anywhere near as full of nonsense now that Pogba is actually playing.

This is becoming a real headache now.. do we cave in to Pogba’s wage demands and renew his contract or let him go for free next summer.. if he keeps performing like this I’m sure he’ll stick to his wage demands rather than agree to our offer

Phwoar! Would be hard to see him go on a free if we get a season like that.

Its okay we've still got time to convince him. If we're genuine contenders for trophies I think he'll stay. But if not.... maybe he'll leave.

He’s sick on the left/free. Not so much in a 2 in the middle. McT and Fred didn’t let them settle and for my money you need that hustle in this league to dominate the ball and make chances further up. Pogba just picked them off. World class creative performance. Stop the lights. Night and day with Rashfords game on the left last season. We've needed creativity more than another direct shooter for quite a while.

I'd rather have one season of this Pogba than 60 million pounds.

Same, though the rumours were more like 50m euros which is around £40m. It allows us to rotate our attackers, Bruno especially. If he leaves on a free it's a shame but at least we'll have time to sign a replacement.

It's a shame though he's spent so much of his time at United playing as a deep midfielder. I've said for a long time he's closer to David Silva than he is Viera, but he got played further back because of his build despite being defensively pretty crap. He nearly always looks class further up the field.

Not sure I agree. I've never liked him as a #10, because when you play him that far up the field, you lose one of his better assets - his ability to make surging runs from midfield.

A #8 on the left side of a midfield three is his best position - that's where he spent most of his time at Juve and that remains the best football he's played in his career.

He can work in the tucked-in left-sided role we saw today as long as Shaw keeps getting forward on the overlap and stretching the opposition. Against better sides though, we'll want someone who can pin the opposition fullback (likely Rashford/Sancho) and then I'm at something of a loss of where to put him. He's not as good as Bruno as a #10 and can't play in a midfield two with Fred/McTominay.

It is all a bit of a shame, but he's never really be consistent enough to warrant building a side around, so it is always going to be a case of fitting him in where possible.

Alot of posters silenced today....

Not really, we have not learned anything new. Class player if used correctly.

If anything he's proved us all right. He was brilliant today. Superb. But he got 6 assists all season last year in all comps. He's got 4 in first game this year.

This is the Paul Pogba we expect to see consistently. Let's hope he does keep it up this time.

The only thing that's been proved right is how little appreciation you have for football. You've been told time and time again that the way Pogba was used in the deep pivot is the reason for his low attacking stats. Today he was used as an attacker with predictably good results.

Yeah he was awesome but in the past, although occasionally great, he was often average and sometimes worse.

He has to take a lot of responsibility for those performances but he plays best when the team plays well (as opposed to the team playing well when he plays well).

The form of those around him and the balance of the team is what sets him free. If we can keep a solid base in CM and keep Bruno and Sancho ticking and clicking then Pogba can have an amazing season. He needs the right conditions to flourish but that’s not a criticism, it’s just the way it is.

If we can get today’s level of performance out of him regularly and Varane lives up to expectations we’re gonna score a lot of goals and not concede many.

You expect 4 assists a game!?

inside you there are two wolves pogbas nou camps

Exactly haha. Pogba always has something in the locker and we're better with him. No other player in our team pulls off that pass to Bruno.

Undroppable yet hasn't scored in the league since January and scored less goals than Scott Mctomminay.

My definition of undroppable greatly differs from yours. His average CAF rating was 6 out of 10 over the season wasn't it? So it seems everyone else disagrees with you too.

Undroppable my backside. Haven't we won more games under Ole without him than we have with him?

He's probably our best player and I feel he needs a top end no6 for him to flourish regularly...but that's not going to happens and he'll head of to PSG. Such a shame.

I know his antics have put a lot of people off him, but i would pay whatever contract to keep him.
When he's played in a position he's suited to (like today), he's worldclass. In most of his time here, he's always been played out of position, or in a position that isnt best suited to his talents.
With PSG out of the running this season, same with Madrid, give him a bumper contract. He's worth it imo.

Plus it just looks pretty embarrassing losing him on a free TWICE.

PSG can feck off. What are they planning to do with that squad if Pogba joins them? winning Uber Eats league in under 15 games?

'Tis the truth. Does this a couple of times a year. Everyone then regards him as the perfect match for our midfield, but we need it consistently like Giggsy, Scholes, Rooney, etc would do it. He's the same level.

Great game today, keep it up. Not a big fan after all the PSG shite, needs to prove/commit himself also on the contractual side, or else I'd rather want a consistent midfielder. Today was a window of what he is capable of. Great match.
