Same.

Bruno is a high working player any way and since ronaldo is in the team is going to play deeper than usual. Pogba and him will be numbers that will help the CDM out if he needs it at all.

However, the right CDM has to be in the mould of an anchor man and not a deep lying playmaker etc.
Yeah my thoughts exactly. Problem being is we won’t see this on the pitch until we sign that player, but we we need that player regardless of the outcome with Pogba renewing.

Ronaldo and Pogba are both players not interested in running and closing down the ball. That would need to be some DM to counter the above.

Personally don't think Pogba is the right player for Bruno or us. However his fans are so insistent that he's been badly managed rather than the fact he's just a talented player with loads of flaws.

Agree. If the point is to build the team around Bruno, Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood and one more (Ronaldo or whoever else replaces him eventually; then I think Pogba has to go. The commercial value of Pogba is cannibalised by Bruno and CR7 anyway. The state of the club right now in my opinion, is that there are too many stars at the moment. So the team spirit isn't great. Solskjaer is trying to accommodate everyone (to enchance the team spirit), but is not succeeding at the moment. Pogba will always be way too inconsistent, DVB will shine far more if he leaves.

Pogba reminds me of Virender Sehwag in certain ways:
  1. Both of them possess the insane ability to completely change the game on their own, and then some. They are near unstoppable when they turn it on and an absolute nightmare to play against.
  2. They have a flair for the dramatic: Pogba's Hollywood passes, Sehwag always looking for the boundary from the very first ball of the match.
  3. Making it seem effortless. I remember the ball Pogba played to Rashy last year against Spurs: on the half volley, cross-field inch-perfect ball to Rashy who was running in behind. It seemed as if it were a thing he'd do for fun the way he played it. Like, look at the brilliant passes Bruno makes and you can see he puts in effort, as if he's saying "look what I can do!". Pogba makes it like "yeah I can do this, nbd". The same with Sehwag: he'd lift a perfect yorker over long-on and send it ten rows back while singing Kishore Kumar.
That being said:
  1. They aren't very consistent. Pogba has had purple patches in his time with us of 4-5 games, never a consistent run of 10+ games where he turns it on. Sehwag I doubt has had any other "consistent" run of form other than those 5 consecutive half centuries in the IPL.
  2. When not on their day, which is more often than not, they're a liability to the team. Pogba with his lack of defensive cover, doing stepovers in the middle of the park/near the box etc. Sehwag with his...Sehwag nature I suppose: always looking for the boundary, making an easy 2 into a laboured single etc.

Who?

His passing from CM is pure brilliance.

Creates everything for France most games

Really poor midfield performance for a world class midfielder. If his only job is float the odd nice ball forward and try and get forward then fair enough but he’s been on the periphery besides that. No drive, losing 50/50s, no tempo or leadership. Walking around the middle of the park and always easily bypassed.

He's always crap in a 2 though. With a back 5 you need 2 work horse midfielders, I don't know why Deschamps plays Pogba there. He did the same thing against Switzerland by playing only him and Kante and the midfield for overrun, we all know Pogba's crap defensively. Pogba is their main creator so they really should be dropping one of the front line if they want to play him, or put him in a midfield 3. France have the same issue with Pogba and Griezmam that we now have with Pogba and Bruno, you need 2 work horse midfielders around him.

He applies no pressure on the opposing midfielder. That first goal for Belgium, if you ignore Lloris pretending to be a corpse on sticks in goal, Pogba offers no pressure even as he is within feet of the best passer in the world.

exactly.

He’s been a bit better in the second half but it’s nothing to build your team around. Certainly nothing you’d put in any two and ever be confident about. Him Bruno and a DM would be a car crash, even if we got Kante. I don’t get why the penny hasn’t dropped for people. He’s so easy play past.

He plays the game at a walking pace. He’s just some sort of freestyler. Anyone thinking we can find a way to squeeze him and Bruno in the same team even with the new CDM are living in the dreamland.

I can’t help think he’s lost his legs. He doesn’t seem to have the ability to break from deep anymore.

This. We have to build the team around Ronaldo and the wingers. I think we have to sarcrifice Pogba in that situation.

He could just as well turn up with the winner but for me it’s not a good midfielder performance. You need to do the basics and drive the team. If he’d even press and track consistently and with conviction it would be a huge step up. He doesn’t even need to tackle.

Only watched the 2nd half but good performance from him I thought.

Imagine someone saying that about Socrates and you’ll see the flaw in the logic. There are many kinds of midfielders, trying to fit them into arbitrary boxes is an easy way to miss their total contribution.

He has not looked properly fit for years I don’t think. Seems he walks with a limp for a few years as well I don’t know if that’s his intentional way of walking or if a genuine issue

He was playing in a 2 man MF and overall I thought he did well.
I also agree with your post and when he has Kante beside him, Kante will do all this pressing so he looks better.

How is he not on free kicks at this club? crazy stuff. he should seriously demand them but he is too nice and respectful for his own good

We call that a pimp limp.

Thet were out numbered in that area. There were lots of instances where him and Rabiot ran around trying to close down multiple players in the same sequence.

Class act. France don’t press as a unit, they hold shape and get behind the ball. United don’t press as a unit because our manager is inept. But yeah Pogba’s fault.

Well done Paul….now go and win another trophy.

 Commit early and then hold your ground

He did a lot better when Tchouameni came on and Belgium emptied out. The problem is he plays like he did in the first half for us an awful lot when he’s played in midfield. Playing at a walking pace standing off and looking to mostly play long balls. Got into the nitty gritty more in the second half and picked out the simple driving passes which helped his team. Went box to box.

7/10 for me so that’s easily a 10/10 for Jeepers

At United we have two players so poor they amount to less than one decent DM. Pogba isn’t a defensive midfielder, but the two we have don’t do what you’re asking Pogba to do.

Do you see how ridiculous your comments were.

We should buy 2 more players to get the best out of him.

Jokes aside, what's the purpose of him renewing. It isnt working, with Ronaldo and Bruno at the club no point in renewing, especially since he shines in few games then trudges around in others. It's not only his fault it hasnt worked out of course but no point in making a team around him nor it will be done. If he's thinking this long about the deal there should be a deadline. This way it seems we're practically begging him to stay.

This thread is incredible. Been one of our better performers this season, and had a good game yesterday. And all some in here do is have a proper moan again.

I don’t think United will offer him the deal he wants. Even though United offer ridiculous contracts most of the time, PP will want a huge contact and I don’t think the club has the appetite or the money to pay it given the one we’ve just given Ronaldo.
He’s a frustrating player and I don’t think he represent good value for money at all. Even when we inevitably change manager this season, will he still be the same player….probably.
United should hold off and offer him a similar deal to now, as he hasn’t justified a pay rise regardless of his global appeal (which I don’t think is as big as Riola will have us believe).

He is talented, I've never denied that. He has also been one of our better players in general too this season (some very good games, some pretty poor games. Standard Pogba really). I think the problem with Pogba is that there are major flaws to his game, he is the epitome of a luxury player and he needs a team built around him.

There's no point arguing about this stuff anymore, he is exactly what he has proven to be. Both sides are right to an extent - he's capable of brilliant moments that will win the game. He's equally as capable of costing you a game with his positioning or inability to do the dirty work. He also causes a headache for the manager because of the structure of our team.

Is it a coincidence that his 3 best games this season came in the first 3 when the window was still open and since closing he's reverted to standard Pogba?

Maybe I'm being a bit too cynical as I'm not his biggest fan but it's definitely true if you look at the games. He's not been great in the last 4 league games and cup games at all. Not the only one that's true of in his defence but I simply can't trust this player to deliver how a 90m player should.

Best for all parties if he moves on. If he stays and wants to then that's fine too but I don't think much will change personally. He will go from the sublime to the ridiculous and back again.
Why is it that whenever Pogba hits a good run of form he's apparently playing for a move?
It's amazing that he's apparently been putting himself in the shop window for years now yet he's still here. Even when he was injured a lot of 'fans' were claiming he's on strike and won't play for us again. I think a lot of you need to get over this distrust of him, you may be able to enjoy watching him play if you do.
