It's not bizarre at all. Hate is a negative emotion and negativity attracts more attention than positivity.
This here is an example of why it's bizarre. Hate is such a strong emotion that can only be justified as a response to extremely despicable conduct. Why would anyone hate Pogba? It's fair if you think he's been a waste or doesn't work hard, or has been angling for a move for some time. Those are all good reasons to want him gone (whether they're true or not), but how are those sufficient reasons for hate?
Probably because it might be City.
He's a Manchester United youth product who left under a cloud on a free to Juventus when he was 18. He then came back for £90m, then a world record fee. He's been largely disappointing in light of a world record transfer fee and is no leaving on a free again, possibly to our bitter cross town rivals!
It's a massive story for United fans for quite obvious reasons. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that some fans are apathetic towards him joining City.
Usually, it would be a massive story - if the player were a Rooney type player adored by the fans. But you've forgotten the part where the majority of fans here have been desperate to see him gone.
This is not a beloved youth product leaving to our rivals. It's by most accounts, here, a very poor player who nobody wants around. Right? I mean, prior to the news of city interest, it was all "good riddance", him getting booed, Mourinho was right, etc.
Do you care if your garbage ends up on the lawn of the neighbour you hate the most?
So I would expect to see the same level of apathy as when Own Hargreaves moved to City. It was a very similar move, wasn't it?
- Cost a relative fortune
- Was just a decent player (even a poor one who never put a shift in according to many)
- Always injured at the end
And the thing that really baffles me is that most of the posts aren't even about the particular act of Pogba moving to City, they're mostly arguments of how he would fit in there or whether he won't.
It's as if, at this point, people want him gone but also want him to fail to prove they were right. That is just sad.
