Are we playing that well though? None of the first choice front 3 have been at it all season, Bruno hasn't been great in this period either

Nah sorry I'm not having that, Pogba's decided to turn it on ever since his agents comments it's got nothing to do with the form of the other players

And when he next has a bad game, would it be because he has ‘decided’ not to play well?

You know full well I'm not talking about the odd game and tbh if Pogba has another down period it's likely to be his last at the club now given how much is left of the season and what will then be the summer that he leaves

Actually I don’t. I’ve never understood the insinuation that he only plays well when he ‘feels like it’. It’s disrespectful and derogatory to any pro - and I’ve seen nothing to suggest Pogba doesn’t want to perform when he plays. He just doesn’t always play well, like other players don’t.

He’s played well for spells since he joined us, so unless we are saying each spell is down to some selfish, hidden ulterior motive - he’s just another inconsistent footballer who has good games and bad games.

Great display today. When he's in the mood, he can be unstoppable, such rare combination of athleticism and technique.

Remember his goal against West Ham?

He loves playing in white and black stripes. :nervous:

The midfielders that are supposedly better than him defensively don’t ever put up his numbers. Guy is a special player

That's more like it man. Against a very difficult team for him usually - maybe he's starting to believe

He’s very rarely at this level. But even so we’ll struggle to find a player with anywhere near his combination of attributes. He’s tall and great defensively in corners, his range of passing, his ability in tight spaces (apart from when he switches off in dangerous positions), his tackling is even pretty good. If we had a Matic regen then we could easily start Pogba and Bruno in every game.

Its odd that after a performance like that he will inevitably not start against Liverpool as we play Fred and Scott. Unless we decide to go midfield 4 which against their fullbacks I don’t see happening.

I think that’s overstated, he seems to love his teammates and vice versa and he loves football.

I think he just wants to enjoy himself, and if he isn’t, he’d consider moving on. He’s certainly the type that will always keep his options open. But “playing for a move”, I call bollocks on that.
How can you "call bollocks" when his agent has come out repeatedly and said he wants to leave!?

Wishful thinking?

That blend of technical ability and physical prowess is just an absolute delight to watch when he's on it. Makes it look so effortless. Fascinated to see where he'll start on Sunday.

Impossible for Ole to bench him for Liverpool now. I think we’ll play 4-2-2-2 and that probably suits if Martial is ruled out.

Pogba is always turn on when wearing the zebra shirt, no wonder Juventus desperately want him back.

Someone in the match thread hit the nail on the head so I take no credit for this comment.

Pogba playing with urgency is an absolute world class player.
Today - he was an absolute machine.

Damn. What a complete juggernaut tonight. Loved that performance, beast! No issues for me tonight.

He played really well tonight, took the game by the scruff of the neck.

I honestly believe we should have built this team around him, he’s a unique player with that mix of strength and ability, he needs to play with less restriction, like he did at Juventus.

Ive been vocal for years now that we should have prioritised a true, top level, DM to free Pogba of the defensive restrictions.

Every single time he plays in a free role he plays well, creates and makes things happen.

To ignore the fact he had substantial cover defensively in the Juventus team (and also in the French team) and expect to get away with not providing that in the premier league I find perplexing. I honestly believe his time here would have been a whole lot better had we acquired a single top level DM instead of an ageing Matic.

Pogba leading United to a title charge.

I’m someone who has often spoken against the demonisation of Paul Pogba and everything, and I think he was fantastic tonight - but I wouldn’t start him at Anfield.

Horses for courses, and he is not the best suited horse for that course I don’t think. We could start him on the left. But then we could start Rashford on the left, which would be better (as bafflingly terrible he can be at times).

After Anfield we have two games that are more suited to PP and he should come straight back into the lineup again.

Best performance for United. From front to back, he ran that second half and was the difference. Dragged us across the line, so disciplined and controlled. No silly free kicks. Winning the ball back, using his body properly to hold them off and keeping it simple. Played with instinct and focus rather than showing off. That level of focus is what he missed. Delighted he helped us win, can't deny performance. Not a fan and hope he goes long term but can't deny that tonight.

Why would we drop our best and in firm central midfielder for a game that could take us six points clear?

He's been in very good form since the West Ham game. Don't think these are his best games at United though. Ole's initial spell and his first season, setting up chances for Zlatan and others, were better.

That is just an agenda against him.

This is how I remember Pogba when he is happy and on form. He usually has this kind of performance when he is on song.

Since Mourinho's outburst, things have been bad for him, fans turning against him (that abuse he got at Old Trafford before the mourinho drama), and injuries.

Pogba has always been this good.

Has anyone else noticed commentators struggle to give him credit during games? And when they do it seems to be through gritted teeth.

I wonder why.

Best performance in a United shirt. Unplayable. If only we could have that version of him every game.

I agree with this. It's fecking nuts to think that he can decide to play this well whenever he feels like it. Even if a player has a huge desire to leave, why wouldn't he play like last night if he could command it that easily, all the time ?
It's actually too funny to read something like this.

You seriously wouldn't want to relegate the best player on form to the bench would you? Even after this performance tonight, it's unfair to him. He should be involved.

Pogba was fantastic tonight. If he keeps this form up, we actually have a shot at the league.

I would love him to continue this form and sign a new contract with us.

Brilliant performance.

He's not wrong  , Harry legitimatly only got punished due to being a collosus compared to Mee.

He rose for the header well before him

Our guest pundit Paul Lambert in Malaysia did a horrible comment on this, he said:

"Maguire jumped too early and as a result of that he ended up pushing Mee from the back, hence it was a clear foul".

Can't believe it. Isn't that the most important ability in getting the headers? It's Mee's fault he couldn't jump earlier than Maguire.

So about 10 games per season?

So about 10 games per season?

During his first season he was immediately world class more than 10 games.
2nd season, same but we're too reliant on him.
3rd season, outburst, but then performed so well for Ole.
4th season, got injured most of the season, returned well on form.
5th season, covid and fitness issues, came back strong since he got back his fitness.

Tremendous Performance. Not only did he shield the ball so well, won so many headers, made quite a few key passes, he was quite a colossus in defense as well. Extremely good game from him.

I mean he played really well because of how good he was defensively. This idea that a midfielder needs to have cover for them defensively is outdated and will get exposed at the top level. A Pogba that shows defensive awareness and can provide ball recoveries while doing his normal work going forward is a world class level player. And NO it never had to do with effort or energy, I think it's partly coaching and him taking more pride in his work off of the ball.

Good post. Pogba was not in free role tonight by any stretch of the imagination.
He was actually disciplined, made the most clearances I think?

The problem has always been Paul Pogbas mentality, not two man midfields, not not playing with Kante, not this manager or this manager, it’s always been him.
I still think these performances are him playing for a move but we’ll take it.

Mourinhos blood pressure went through the roof watching him today. Why would he never defend for him like that?
