Very good today. This role in a 4-3-3 is no doubt his best. Just shame it doesn't suit a lot of our other players though. Need this in the big games though.

Didn't realise how excellent the pass to Martial was when the match was on. Lovely weight and accuracy.

He’s only maximised as a free player in a midfield 3; proved that at Juve. Sit Matic deep, find a dynamic player to link between them and build the team around that midfield.

Ross Barkley would be perfect for it - available for pennies this window and despite being a bit thick, a good manager could reprogramme him into realising that he’s got better potential as a traditional #8 than a forward.

We should keep playing this shape. Suits Pogba.

Having said that, the shape was the same in the first half and the second half - now, why did he suddenly start to play like the world class player he is in the second half?

Point being: This is his level. He needs to reach it consistantly. And he's responsible for it himself, it's not all José's fault.

Pogba in 4-3-3 on the right side with less defensive duties is a whole different animal. He was menacing, creating, shooting, winning headers and everything else. My MOTM today.

He’s sensational. And he was good in the first half too ffs.

An improvement on herrera in a player like Jorginho/weigl and we would be have a great midfield, probably one of the best in the league. Clearly 3 in the midfield is what works for us. Loved how he stood up for lingard, that kind of thing bonds the team. Pogba said at end of last game that he needs to step and he did.
If Pogba plays well, we play well. Its like yaya, we have to release the Kraken if you know what i mean.

Please for the love of god continue to play him in this position.

It's clearly his best position where he influences the game. Not bloody playing as a deep lying midfielder in a two man midfield.

This is why I was so vocal against signing Griezmann and changing our formation last summer. We got these performances around the middle of last season when Carrick anchored the three.

4-3-3 is ideal for me I think.

Magic today, bin the midfield 2 off. If Mourinho doesn't think he has the players to play the 3 week in week out, bloody sign one in January.

If midfield 3 with point back is better then midfield 2 with number 10, then even if you put a traffic cone, he should stick to it. Midfield 2 is just killing not only Pogba but Matic too, just so we can have a number 10 doing feck all, imagine suffering for 90 min because he must have someone like Mkhi in current form as number 10 :wenger:

Average first half but very dominant and classy in the 2nd half. Felt like he decided he would control the game and the team followed his lead.

Only praise for today's performance but he has shown he can effect against lower level teams several times before. Am still waiting for him to be the difference in difficult situations or genuine box office games.

Ask the Arsenal fans what they thought about Pogba.

Did you miss the Arsenal match completely? Isn't that the only big match he has played this season in PL?

Will he be given the money though?

That's an issue.
A few weeks ago when second looked something of a formality, he probably wouldn't have done. After the last few weeks and the complete reversal of fortunes today, if he's not given the money to get someone he identifies in, heads should roll.

He’s sensational. And he was good in the first half too ffs.
Also excellent in the games against West Ham, Swansea, Newcastle (the "4 goal games"), Arsenal and others this season, where he played in a midfield two behind a #10.

Simply has to learn to play in top gear more often.
Yep, and that's where his age comes in imo. Needs to learn to be brilliant and influence games like he can constantly like how De Bruynes been this season. Sure it'll come, but I think that's the one thing that separates him from the very best mids, because the talent is all there along with the random performances.

Not sure about him as a 'midfield general' but he's like a shark in the water when he moves around the left side. It's amazing how he bosses that zone of the field.

Of course he was, but 'good' shouldn't be good enough from Pogba.

He's an incredibly player, and with that comes incredible expectations.

Martial
Pogba - Lingard - Mata
Matic - Herrara

Looks like our best front 6 at this moment in time.

7 assists this season despite missing 2 months with injury and then 3 games with suspension. KDB has the most in the PL with 9 assists and he is played every game for City. We wouldn't be 12 points behind City if Pogba was available the whole season without a doubt.

Good shouldn’t come with criticism. The performance in the first half was more positive than negative, whereas the comments were the opposite.

He's had a lot of very good games for us but that was arguably the first game he's truly dominated the opposition. He was toying with them in that 2nd half. Running rings around them, and had opposing defenders just bouncing off him. It's no coincidence that he was playing in a system that compliments him rather than holds him back. His defensive work down the left was very good, and Matic and Herrera in the middle gave him licence to immediately bomb forwards and be a part of the counter attack. Some of his runs were ignored, but he often trying to go in behind and expecting a ball over the top.

He's brilliant to watch when he has that freedom. He's made for 4-3-3. When your best player is a box to box midfielder, you don't play him in a 2 man midfield.

Couldn't agree more. The agenda posters were out in the first half despite the fact that he was having a good game.

Unshackled today and he was immense, I think everyone benefited from him being in that left channel, including Shaw.

Paul Scholes still thinks he shite...

Scholes never said that, in fact whe we did today is exactly what Scholes said we should be doing with him.

What an immense player. Looks completely different as a LCM combining with Shaw and Martial.

Just a plain joy to watch on his day.

I couldn't disagree any more strongly.

'Good' isn't good enough from Pogba. He's that good that he can singly handedly win games regularly.

To put it in terms of a different sport, if a player averages 70 in cricket they've done exceptionally. If Don Bradman averaged 70 in a series he underperformed.

Pogba's not that far ahead of his peers, but he's clearly miles ahead of all our other players and expecting the sublime from him is hardly unfair on him.

He's an absolutely outrageous talent, easily the best player I've seen play for us since Ronaldo and expectations should reflect that.

Put it this way, if Pogba goes on just to be a 'good' player for Manchester United something has gone horribly wrong.

Excellent today. This is what all the dough was for. Needs to be part of a midfield 3 and be playing up higher on the pitch like today. You can just tell him and Lingard have a great understanding.

He did a post-game pitch side interview with Arlo White and Lee Dixon for us Americans on NBCSN where he basically said that Jose gave him freedom today and that his best/favorite position is further up the pitch attacking. He followed that up with saying he'll be happy doing whatever Jose wants him to do, but the smile he gave when saying he likes being further up the pitch said otherwise.

None of that is wrong. In the context of a first half though, it still isn’t reason to be laying into him. As it stands, he had a great game today, and it isn’t even as if he had a terrible first half and great second one. He should come out of the game with nothing but praise, there is no need to be making any particular reference of his first half. Doing so at half time was unfair and lacking in any patience at all. He was already the best player on the pitch in the first half.

So you are happy with his first-half performance then?
As i've said in the post above, he's had a mixed game, moments of brilliance and then some awful touches, decisions. He was nowhere to be seen for around the half of the game.
Sure his assists and some other moments in the second half showed his talent. But in order to be a really class player you need to produce them not sporadically, but constantly.
This game is actually a great reflection of his season in general. Sometimes he is brilliant, sometimes he is lazy as he was when Everton nearly scored a couple from our left after 0-1. Sometimes he looks just lost and disinterested like he was in the first half.
First half was nothing special. Was all right. Second half he was great. Being disinterested has nothing to do with manager.
I was just saying that position suits him near perfectly.
