Does it annoy anyone else when fans (especially from other clubs) call him average?

It really shouldn't because I know how good he is. And we have him! But I don't get how some people are so thick! Just like Scholes all over again.

Then again when we had Ronaldo, people would say he was overrated, then as soon as he signed for Madrid everyone thought he was amazing.

watch utd fans go crazy when Pogba humiliates Fernandinho with great skills

Nobody said he was an average player, what people said is that last season his performance was average.

It wasn't though, that is the point. He performed well overall, not his best by any means but if all football fans actually watched Man Utd games without such bias you can see his quality on full display.

Well that's a matter of opinion.

He did play poorly in a few high profile games. Which coloured opinions. But the class was always evident from day one. Looks like he just needed a season to bed in. Which is what you'd expect. Not to mention that a decent rest this summer will make a big difference.

It's not really, just a fact. If you can't see many of his performances were better than 'average' I'd question your judgement and knowledge of football, but anyway no point discussing this any further.

Some were yeah, many though were dreadful. Let's not go mental here, many Utd fans in this forum were complaining for the a long period that he was massively underperforming. Overall he did ok, nothing more than that. I expect him to be a different player next season.

All top players in the league had poor performances in big games, but he's the only one it seems to come back on and like you said colour opinions which to me shows how little people actually watch football and simply base their opinions on what someone on Twitter says.

I read people calling him donkey

New thread, same oppo posters looking to put him down at every opportunity.

I'm trying to be balanced, he is obviously a very talented player with the potential to be a world beater. He started to look the real deal in the final stages of the season but before that he was underwhelming. Like I said, I expect him to be much better and more consistent next season and become the player most of you believe he was last season.

He WAS underperforming but compared to the lofty standards he has set. In absolute terms, he was still our best midfielder in last four seasons.

Granted, the 'only oppo fans undervalued Pogba' narrative doesn't work, as many here on the Caf were extremely harsh throughout 2/3 of the season. But that doesn't make their picture of Pogba more realistic.

On the other hand, there were also posters who consistently pointed out the overall level and efficiency of his displays throughout the season, and his importance to the team. It only really caught on after the period were he was missing with an injury, and the visible detoriation of United's offensive game during that time.

Madness.

I thought he was our best player in about 80% of our games. There were only about 3 where he was really bad.

If Barkley had an identical season to Pogba, people would probably be calling Barkley World Class. It's definitely the price tag that clouds judgement imo.

It isn't true that he only reached the heights in the final stage of the season anyway. He was excellent in December and January too, when we won like 10 on the spin. Performances away at Palace and West Brom for instance spring to mind. The issue is, he was playing so well that massive things were expected when the big games came round, and he didn't deliver on the build up. If you go back to the anticipation of what he would do before the Liverpool game (at Old Trafford), you will see he wasn't in terrible form by a long way

When was Pogba dreadful :lol::lol: I must have have completely missed a few games

Nah, people were complaining because the media set the expectation that big money player = 20+ goal season, regardless of position. He was judged at a ridiculous standard all season long that no other midfielder in the world is held to. Pogba sets up a chance on a plate and striker misses? Pogba is shit because he doesn't provide enough assists. Pogba hits the bar? Shit because he doesn't score enough goals. Lost the ball once on the halfway line? Dreadful performance.

He played very well over the season and that became crystal clear whenever he missed a game as our entire attack was dead without him. A merely 'OK' player isn't missed like that.

I seem to remember he was pretty poor against Liverpool last season....probably one of his worst games for us.

It went from that to he was poor in all the big games, ridiculous really.

No, it makes it more enjoyable when we beat them with such terrible players.

One more player on his level, preferably a forward one - we will be a serious threat.

As has been said though, not easy to find another player on his level.

I don't care about other fans think. I only care about him being here and performing like that on the pitch. Spending time convincing other clubs fans that he's a quality is a waste of time and effort.

If you're going by that "elephant in the room" thread then said thread was crazy. Totally unnecessary even if he wasn't turning up in the big games.

Against "weaker" opposition he was incredible. Looked like the best midfielder on the planet at times. Against the big teams, I personally didn't think he played that well in any of them at all bar Chelsea at home, and even then he wasn't great. Still, I'd say overall he had a very good season. A lot better than "ok" anywho.

Incidentally, giving this is in response to your debate with a Spurs fan, he was very good against Spurs at home too. Very unlucky not to score, dragged s good chance wide in the first half, hit the inside of the post with a great free-kick in the second, and also forced a great save from Lloris too.

I like how "many he was dreadful" suddenly turned into a few games. He had a few poor games, in notable ones, he had many 7-7.5 games, and a few outstanding ones. However because he didn't score 20 goals he was shite.

Yeah, as well as Spurs and Chelsea he did alright against Arsenal at home, too. It's just when you see the standard he's playing at against the weaker teams, when you see his performances against the big ones they seem very lackluster in comparison whether it's fair to judge said performances like that or not.

From my memory, I remember being more impressed with Herrera and Fellaini in the big games they played in than Pogba, but that doesn't mean he was terrible in all of the or that his season wasn't a good one.

There was also the 'Pogba's mentality' thread and tons of dismissive posts in the player performance thread.

Teams definitely target Pogba more though. They don't need to mark Fellaini closely as he isn't going to dribble or shoot, so they can double team Pogba and leave Fellaini free.

He struggled to adapt his style at first and kept trying to dribble opponents which is why he lost the ball, but the last few games he's learnt to keep it moving quicker when tightly marked, that's been the big difference.

If we play with Mkhi or Pereira in midfield though teams can't afford to do that.

In many big games we played with a very defensive formation. That stick to the qualities of Herrera and Fellaini, not Pogba.

He's decking brilliant! Easily our best player and our most important player. The whole team needs to be built around him and if we'll win trophy, he will be one of the main reasons. I don't know what people expect from him but I think he played well in most games, with some brilliant games on top
