Martial is still in limbo it seems.

He has been a consistent starter for the previous 3 months. He has even started on the right when we got Sanchez to try and accommodate all our attacking players in one lineup. At the moment we're still figuring out how to use both in a way not disturbing the team balance.

Also tbf, I said previously SAF would have benched Pogba if he puts similar performance under him.

It's not a punishment. What don't people get...with Sanchez arrival, we need 2 holding midfielders especially in tough away games and Pogba isn't suddenly going to turn out defensively. He will play the return leg.

We're playing three holding midfielders. And if Mourinho can't devise a tactical set up which fits in our most talented player and the player we broke the world record for, then that doesn't say much for his management.

If Pogba is still not fully fit, that's fair enough, and the decision is understandable. Otherwise Mourinho will deserve all the criticism he gets if we end up with a poor result tonight.

A manager can't persuade a club to break the world record fee for a player and then bench him for our biggest games of the season.
Yes, he can, if he feels it's the right decision at the time, for the team. It's his neck on the line, anyway. If it doesn't go according to plan, rest assured that all the hungry wolves lurking in the shadows will absolutely rip into Jose for his team selection tonight.

Pogba has been our best player and the player in our team with the highest ceiling, we can't afford losing him.
We can't restart our rebuild because if we lose Pogba in this market we are fecked.

Even best players get dropped after continued run of form. And if that's the only reason why Jose dropped him, then I have no problems with that.

I'd find concerning if he dropped Pogba simply because they fell out.

He most certainly can. The manager is obliged to go with the players and lineup who have demonstrated the best form leading up to the latest fixture. The market price we paid for player x has nothing to do with his logic.

It isn't the be all and end all, this can only make Pogba comeback more focused and disciplined. He's not a child he has to learn he can' always have things his own way all the time, sometimes it's necessary to sacrifice yourself for the team. Rooney is a good example of this, look how many positions he was asked to play. Pogba just has to get on with it.

We're finally back in the Champions League proper, and we find a way to leave our best player and world record signing on the bench. I can't even.

Something’s obviously not right I don’t care what Jose says, you can tell by the way he talks in the interviews that he’s pissed off for some reason.

Jose very prickly when asked about Pogba. To be fair the interviewer asked 3 questions straight about Pogba.

Imagine leaving your best player out in a CL knockout.

Sanchez is our best player and it's clear from the games he has played for us. He gives us the creativity of Pogba with a far greater work rate and goal threat.

Mourinho didn't really offer much of substance there, albeit "He created doubts" might or might not have some sort of hidden meaning.

Also said he 'was not able to play' against Huddersfield and not ill. In fact, no mention of illness. Maybe just reading to much into it?

Well, in the interview I saw he said that Pogba decided that he didn't feel right, which seemed to me to allude to illness rather than anything more underhand.

Punishment for dropping out of the FA Cup game is what I'm reading

Aye, I conveniently forgot that.

To be dropped for probably the biggest game of the season so far will certainly give him a nudge and will most likely be top class when he comes in the second half.

On my phone so not sure ut's been mentioned because postst keep popping up, but:

He said he was going to play Pogba against Huddersfield last week FFS.

With camera's rolling and journo's present.
Watch back the video, he was not lying.

Why would he confirm a player to start on a press conference a day before, then have the player call in sick on matchday, just as a sick joke to show who's boss?

You guys are bonkers, this is an important match and Mourinho's ass is on the line too. There's no way he'd do this if he didn't think this optimizes his chance at a result. Pogba probably has not been feeling or training well this week

If he’s still ‘not well’ or hasn’t shown Mou anything to the contrary in football, then I’m behind this decision. Football should be a meritocracy.

As was the case when Ashley fecking Young kept a half arsed Di Maria out the team.

I can’t see Mourinho doing this for the sake of being a dick. It’s him that’ll face the chop should shit hit the fan.

At first i didn't pay much attention to the Pogba situation, but now something feels off. Those comments about the fancy hairstyles, Pogba will soon be playing again and so on.

Honnestly play one of our best players and get on with it. It's getting ridiculous now benching him for Tominay. We could end up losing him, but Mourinho wanted him at any cost. Pogba makes us tick and the magnificent long balls, i'm really annoyed not seeing him for 90 min.

Sort it out, Mourinho!

It's quite simple but most seem to miss them obvious...these players would not have developed the way they did if they stayed at Chelsea. KdB especially is a completely different player now, back then he was a wide attacker like Hazard and at Wolfsburg he w.s a no.10 that would support the striker. At Man City KdB is a midfield orchestrator. As he has developed his game he has gone further back on the pitch.
could of played 10 ahead of Oscar and developed all the same. He is still an AMC just being deployed CM. Silva too. If they played 10 they would still be excellent I am sure. That doesn't just change

If I had to choose between Pogba and Jose at the end of the season, I wouldn't give a feck if both left tbh.

Jaysus. Hard to read that as anything other than Pogba being punished for pulling a last-minute sickie.

To be honest, if he really did pull a sickie because he was butt-hurt about being dropped (which is a nagging doubt I’ve had since then) then I’m all on board with him being benched. If we end up with galacticos picking and choosing their fixtures we really are fecked.

We're less likely to win football matches with Pogba not in the team. That's a fact.

Any piss about sending a message is exactly that. Piss.

The feck is going on?

This could massively backfire. This is a season defining match. No excuse for going in without our best player. All sides have some blame in this IMO, until more facts come out.

But Pogba tweeted he was 'gutted' not to be involved. Unless Pogba is going all out in his 'pulling a sickie' hmm

I agree. He's our star player for a reason. The funny thing is that Jose brought him for a such a big fee, so this is all on him too.

Remember those reports for oversleeping and what not? Maybe it's been happening again and Jose is not convinced with Pogba's long-term commitment to the rebuilding job he has here.
