To be fair, he’s not really said anything crazy ridiculous there.
Don’t get me wrong I’m really happy with the appointment but there is a lingering feeling about why none of the top clubs have hired him previously, it’s still a massive improvement on the coaching form where we we’re though and I don’t think he quite realises that.
He clearly thinks the players were shocking this season as well and they have been imo, individual errors have been off the scale.

I'm under no illusions about RR, and I don't think he's a dead cert to save our season, I'm totally on the fence about him. He's not said anything particularly controversial, but it's more that Merson has a solid track record of ranting about player transfers and managerial appointments that have not come from within the Premier League, and he's been hopelessly wrong on many occasions as a result. This is just more of the same from him, when all he is doing is showcasing how little he knows about football outside of the top 6. At least give him a chance. He's not even officially been appointed yet.
He certainly is but it's more him being a troll than saying something controversial. He did the same when Ronaldo came back.
He's not trying g to wind people up. He's just too dim to think outside the box.
It's more that he's got nothing to base his strong opinion on. It's an interim appointment, not the deal to whinge and whine about.

He may very well be right, but his opinion is based on the fact RR isn’t as popular as other options. Paul hasn’t got much of a clue but he can definitely guess something and it be right.
I’m not so much excited for this season as the fact we will actually have a style of play over the next 2.5 years with him here in some capacity. At least there will finally be a style of football and not 11 players thrown out on to the pitch.

Not a lot of big clubs have needed a RR type. His speciality has been building clubs up and getting them promoted. It’s not a surprise that AC Milan were the other club who has looked at him recently. Both us and Milan have needed someone to come in and rebuild the football side of things.

My understanding of that situation was certain members of Milan's board didn't want Rangnick, it was Gazidis that did and so he went and negotiated.
It ended up with Pioli staying as he started winning essentially.
But are we really suggesting Milan are a big club anymore??

I do find that he enjoys having a good moan about Man Utd.
I think its just his personality, he seems to find very little joy in anything, which tends to lead to being pretty pessimistic. I share this trait and always see all the problems and negatives, before any upsides.
I have to admit that I hold a lot of his opinions in high regard. When he questioned why we hired Rangnick? I noticed. Even now he's talking about how we should go after Tuchel and it made an impression.

Whoever buys this club will have to love Chelsea Football Club like Abramovich did. If they don't, it's just going to fizzle away.
Chelsea's biggest hope is that it's a Chelsea fan buying it. I don't see anyone else coming into the club again and spending that kind of money.
I worry for Chelsea now. It was in a song: "When you've seen such riches, you can't live with being poor."

It doesn’t really take much brains to say the manager that won the last CL is a top manager, I think he talks shite 99% of the time obviously something sticks every now and again.

If I was in charge at United, I'd be going for Rodgers or Graham Potter now. People are still caught up on the Pochettino of seven years ago. If that's the case, why isn't everyone going for Claudio Ranieri again?
He won the league in 2016, Pochettino didn't. He took Tottenham as far as he could, and then you've got someone like Rodgers who has done a far better job than what Pochettino did.
He only lost the league at Liverpool because of a slip. Now, he doesn't even get a mention.

Potter is hard to tell whether he's a top manager or not.
I think he'd argue neither is Pochettino and Rodgers came closer to winning the league against tougher competition to boot. He still rates the current version of Rodgers.

he is fairly skint by all accounts (he was on the anything goes podcast with james english a while back) so is relying on his pay cheque from sky and whatever punditry he does so he knows he has to wind people up to a degree. he seems like an ok bloke besides his opinions on football to be fair - mad story and life, the podcast is worth a listen.
Yeah, watched a programme on BBC1 about him he lost £7.5m gambling or close to it, seems a decent sort and looks to live very modestly compared to what you’d expect, but still think he spouts nonsense constantly.
