Paul Mcguiness Sacked ?

Bit surprised on that.

Is the coaching the issue or is there just not enough talent at that age level?

Tweet isn't loaded. Deleted?

Custis appears to have deleted his tweet...

edit, back again, maybe a new link.

Think it's harsh. His team has been decimated. Sometimes we haven't even had enough players and he's had to call up lads from the u16s. I'm going to wait to see the entire revam plan before criticizing anybody.

Is this part of the announcement Woodward said he would make regarding youth development.

I am really surprised at this due to his past record with the kids. Someone said his squad has been decimated due to some having to go up a level. It isn't his fault if some of his kids aren't good enough, surely that is our scouting network not making sure the best kids come to us?

We're overhauling the entire structure. Obviously there will be some casualties from the old guard.

Exactly if the club has looked at the structure from new perspective and recognised areas to change and improve, it is going to result in people leaving as well as being brought in. He was a here a long time and could just be a chance to freshen it up rather than him being a scapegoat or a failure.

I always thought he seemed decent but just goes to show unless you watch the training sessions you never really know. Any ideas as to who his replacement might be?

What is it based on then? Who will replace him?
Not sure who'll replace him I think Tommy Martin and Colin Little are managing tomorrows game though. There are a few reasons for it and if they come out then they come out but its not my place to make them public but his job was under review before the recent losing streak

It might be a few people who've been there a while have become too 'comfortable'. That happens sometimes. I hope they are looking at 'progressive' people to replace those who are leaving. We always need to be looking ahead, anticipating and adapting as we go along, whether it be through different training methods, scouting whatever.

Have a feeling one reason LVG was brought in was basically as Woodward's 'hatchet man' (that's the term my American friends use:D). The 'hatchet man' is very unpopular in an organisation - he always comes in and gets rid of under performers and/or suggests changes in structure etc. I kind of feel a detailed analysis has gone into this, and unfortunately some people won't survive any subsequent 'purge'.

That all sounds a bit shady? As you say it isn't our place.

Probably a result of the evaluation Ed mentioned on the shareholders meeting. Seems like they are looking to re-structure the acadamy, which could be good.

Yeah looks like he has resigned but maybe the club has put that kind of statement to show respect to an old employee.

Anyway I trust @jb8521 over this. He told me an hour ago before the news broke that Paul has been sacked.

In announcing his decision, Paul said: "It has been an honour and a privilege to follow in my father Wilf's footsteps and to serve Manchester United in a variety of roles for a total of 28 years.

"I have dedicated my life to each job, from player to education and welfare officer, to Centre of Excellence director and scout, assistant academy director for under-9s to under-16s and later under-17s to under-21s, head coach for the professional development phase and finally youth-team coach.

“I will be forever grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for making my dreams come true and inviting me to represent Manchester United as a player and for the last 23 years as a proud member of staff.

"I have learned a great deal by working with Sir Alex and so many special Manchester United people over the years, especially my mentors Eric Harrison, Jim Ryan and Tony Whelan.

“I have so many incredible memories, particularly the FA Youth Cup win in 2011 and being asked to be part of the Munich memorial service in 2008, but I have especially enjoyed working behind the scenes with devoted colleagues, nurturing and coaching young players to reach their potential.

“To have seen 86 Academy players develop to make their debut for the first team and 23 to become full internationals has been thoroughly rewarding.

"I now have other ambitions I would like to fulfil in football that I can only experience outside the club.

“I am extremely grateful to all the staff at Carrington and Old Trafford for their friendship and professionalism over the years. Many thanks also to all the United supporters from all over the world - especially the incredibly dedicated followers of the Under-18 and youth teams.

"Finally, I would like to wish good luck for the future to Louis van Gaal, Ryan Giggs, the first team and all the players and staff at the Academy.”

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: “Paul has been a great servant to the club and everyone here wishes him the best in fulfilling his ambitions in the game.

"The board is grateful to him for everything he has given to the role over many years of service. His successor will have very big shoes to fill."

We'll know if it was a sacking or not depending on if he walks into a new job in the next couple of days. Seems likely since it wasn't announced that he's got a new position elsewhere (like McClair) that he's been sacked and the club are being nice about it.

Tho Custis said he was sacked (not that i believed him or anything) just surprised that every single news about us must have some negative spin.

Neil is a Cnut and I almost hate him.

Hmmm why does he have to thank Ryan Giggs by name... Something not quite aligned in that.

Wished him good luck, nothing strange about that, or?

Well the others are mentioned in context of a direct impact on PMcG's development or journey with the club. Louis Van Gaal's mention is a clear point to the manager but Ryan Giggs, to me reading that with experience in PR statements, is a clear outlier. There's just no need to name him. "The manager and first team staff" would have been more than sufficient as a token line. If they were friends or PMcG wanted to make a deliberate shout out to him, you would imagine that it would have been listed as part of the previous tribute and thanks section.

The whole Giggs post-playing angle the club has over the past 3 years makes me so uneasy.
