Paul Ince says we need to sign a striker!!!

Fergie likes Macheda. Even if Berbatov left in January (unlikely imo) he'd probably promote Kiko to 4th choice. I don't see us signing a striker unless it's another no pressure young gem like Hernandez. That seems to be the way Fergie is approaching most position strengthening unless we're forced to buy someone established.

Ronaldo hardly ever played as a striker for us. Always, with one or two exceptions, used on the wing.

Yeah but surely you see my point? We had a great attack at the time, Ronaldo scored more than our strikers but saf still wanted a world class player to lead the line. Ideally he would've wanted Berbatov in peak Spurs form to lead our line or someone like Benzema if the rumours were true. Villa was also rumoured as that player who wouldn't leave the country.

Yep. If you sign an established player, what does that mean for Hernandez and Welbeck anyway? Fergie has great belief in the two, they'll be leading the front line for us next to Rooney. We don't need someone pushing them to the bench.

Absolutely. The Treble season messed with everyone's heads, we're now expected to have 4 established strikers at the peak of their games willing to share large amounts of time on the bench. Would be nice, but how many teams have that these days? What we have, with two young exciting strikers who are happy to learn and contribute now, is hopefully all we need if we can save Rooney from having to play midfield. In an ideal world Berbatov would be a better impact player, I guess...

Why should anyone listen to Ince? He's someone who never seems to have gotten over the fact that we deemed him surplus to requirements all those years ago.

It's been a few days since his first comment and I have had time to reflect.

Ince is a nutter!

RANT ALERT

As I said he's trying to get exposure that he's available for a job. He should be in the media showing how bright he is and demonstrating analysis. If (and that's a big if) he needs to tell other managers (who are employed!) what they should be doing then it should be how they could change things with little to no money.

Not only does he fail to grasp this, he goes on to tell the most decorated manager in the English game that he needs a player that noone thinks he needs!

I'm still trying to work out why he goes wading into things that aren't necessary. Like the lack of black managers stuff! There is a lack of English managers in the Premiership. English managers generally aren't that great. The reason is that they don't really take the time to really understand the game. There are some - even McLaren, Peter Taylor etc. who go outside the game to understand it better and they are better for it. There are others who think you just walk into a job and become good at it - Shearer, Southgate, Ince.

The best managers around spent a lot of time studying it or they have great schooling in European football which is much more tactical - therefore a greater knowledge of the game.

I respect Ince because he had a good time playing in Italy and it was thought that he could translate some to managing in England. But alongside his successes he's failed at a few places. There are other English managers who have had successes and failures who aren't managing right now - Keane, Curbishley, Bryan Robson. These guys also are not working as managers and it is not because they are white.

The fact is until English managers recognise their lacking traits (I'm sure it is different for each manager) in the game it will be difficult for them. Go out there and study under the best managers. Go and study under Mourinho, Guardiola, Villas-Boas, Blanc, Allegri, Conte, Mazzari, Löw, Heynckes. Then come back and say this is what I've done I've got some exciting ideas - I've studied under the best and with my own take on it THIS is what I can bring to your club.

Instead we get players trying to walk straight into managing clubs just because they've got their 'L' plates (coaching badge). But this isn't about race at all. It's about what you do to specialise. Race never stopped Gullit or Tigana from getting jobs!

In the meantime, if you're not prepared to put in the hard yards to get better Paul don't come on the media telling the most successful manager in British history how he's got it wrong and how he should be spending more money as that's what chairman will think you will do if you join them! You look really stupid at a time when you're actually looking for a job!

RANT OVER

If we are going to insist on the 4-4-2 system then 4 strikers is a must. Now if Berba is going to remain, well and good but I doubt that he'll remain with us for long. Same thing about Diouf and possibly Macheda.

However I don't why anyone is suggested estabilished strikers. A hernandez type of player (young rough gem) would do. Rumors say that we're interested in Van Wolfswinkel. He's the type of striker that we may need.

To conclude its difficult to say what we need in the area since there are too many variables to consider. SAF may change formation, Berba may decide to remain and Macheda may end up scoring shit loads of goals while on loan. In that case we won't need a 4th striker.

.....but he knows how to spell the word 'shoot' ...
