Patrick Dorgu | Medical tomorrow

With all due respect, identifying a wing-back for £40 million or less is not responsibility. However, it’s important to note that, aside from Hakimi and Cancelo—both signed by some of Europe’s wealthiest club owners, and Wan-Bissaka, which highlights United’s somewhat amateurish approach when negotiating with other clubs—there hasn’t been a full-back transfer exceeding £40 million in recent years. Given this context, I would expect United to be more than capable of securing a reputable player who can meet the tactical and technical demands set by Ruben Amorim.

That said, if Amorim has identified Dorgu as his preferred option to fulfil those requirements, I would be fully on board with that decision.

They're looking for €40m, not GBP

That’s because he’s knackered running up and down the pitch so much without a rest, if we had 4/5 good options at wing back we would get more out of all of them to play this system, the wing backs are key and they should play no more than 35-40 matches or they’ll break down with injuries and fatigue.
And Ideally, Amorim might want to sub the WBs more often in the games to keep the energy up on those positions throughout the game.

Guys, I know that traditionally fullbacks go for less but we’re looking for players who can play this demanding wingback role, in January. Let’s hear your suggestions if you’re not onboard with Dorgu

Kerkez and Ait Nori will be more expensive but the question is do you pay the extra £10m for players who you know can play in the league and don’t need to adapt. I would.

Call me crazy but I’d take a punt on Chillwell. Just on a loan. A player used to Premier League. Might be a bit too loose defensively but we need something in attack.

I just dont see the light in Dorgu. Not sure if he’s better than Dalot in his current stage, not sure he will be in the long run neither. He has a decent cross I guess, but it’s a bit like when we actually bought Dalot and it took some years to get him to his current level.

I say just wait in the summer, there's a good chance they go down and we can get him for even cheaper. There's no reason with our current situation to commit more money than we want on him when this season is a wash anyway.

We will likely face more competition in that scenario.

He doesn’t even look that fast in videos. Remember he’s playing in Serie A which is less athletic, so some players stand out more there.

He looks like an average CM that has some running power being asked to play LWB to me. I don’t see any good deliveries or a natural defender in any of his highlights.

I know its meaningless but Transfermarkt valus the entire Lecce squad at 90M euros haha.

Can an Italian club currently sitting 15th in the league confidently reject 20M+ for a player they bought for 200k?

Call their bluff and bring Alvaro back.

I don't necessarily disagree but what has the amount they paid for him got to do with what he is now valued at?

But we'll also have more options to look at as well. Napoli has been the only team so far interested in him, but they'll be busy with finding a replacement for Kvara. We just need to do our business early and hopefully we can convince him to only want to come here to force Lecce's hand

It's irrelevant though. We paid a few hundred grand for Garnacho not long ago and we're going to sell for £60 million.

Yeah. United wouldn't sell him for a few quid more than they bought him for would they.

Same as Lecce are gonna make a HUGE profit on the kid (if they sell)

Not sure what you are arguing here

You said they have no right to reject 20+ million because they only paid 200k.

We should sign both Dorgu and Carreras tbh. Amorims system is heavily dependent on wingbacks and Amad is really the only good one we have. Dorgu being able to cover both rwb and lwb is a big plus

Just been watching Wolves and I don’t know if I’d be confident that Ait Nori can be anything more than a good fullback.

The other lad I haven’t watched at all.

However it seems clear that we’re looking to spend as little as possible so I’d say that they are out anyway

Though he’d be good company for Shaw

I see Ait Nouri mentioned a lot but I’ve never been particularly impressed with him.

Arguable whether it would take just £10m. Definitely would to get it done in January. We need someone now

United would want to do the majority of their spending in the summer where more players are available and it's easier to cut a deal.

Remember we already have Leon as a prospect. Dotgu is still raw and so to some degree is Carreras.

Like you say Amorim ball relies heavily on WBs. I would imagine in the summer finances allowing we would look for a more elite option to suppliment the two younger ones.

Walk away.
Sure but then dont complain about Dalot, Maz or Malacia when they are playing at left wing back? We clearly need a real LWB

Because buying more expensive Premier League proven players has worked out so well post SAF? Mount, Maguire, AWB have all been fantastic buys!

I agree. We do. However he's not the only LWB in the world. If the club have any sense they'd be looking at alternatives at a fairer price.
