Patrick Dorgu | United in talks

We dont have the money for an expensive signing so I dont know why we dont just loan Sergio Reguilon (who would probably do alright in the LWB position) again for the rest of the season then see what's available in the summer.
Or loan Chilwell if he is fit

Completely. Look at what Garnacho has done in his career, his scoring record, the big goals in key games. It wasn't that long ago we were saying he's the most exciting prospect we've had on the wings since Ronaldo arrived in 03. And his stats support this.

He's a goalscoring, match winning, 20 year old international winger who has won major trophies.

No way is his value only 10m more than Lecce's left back who has less than 50 career appearances. No justification whatsoever.

Whoever was saying that couldn't have been more wrong  Garnacho is light years away even from Rashford or Martial, let alone Ronaldo ffs

People used to say Martial didn't look good while dribbling, made no difference as to whether he could beat his man or not though.
There's something to that. Sadio Mane looked pretty average at Southampton but he had the right ingredients to perform at a higher level. What looks appealing to us as fans frequently has little bearing on how actual coaches view players.

That's what fans need to remember. Those who watch for pleasure versus those who make a living out of the sport

Lecce are really milking this deal aren't they?
Not surprising though. Young player (wanted by Napoli as well) and it's January. They don't have to sell so will try to get as much as possible and know we need a player with Antony and possibly few other players leaving.

I want someone who can play proactively from the back. His dribbling looks good but also a bit awkward. Really not convinced but I also don't think he's a bad player. 40m Eur is a stupid fee.

Yeah the fee seems too high doesn't it

Lets bring back Alvaro and draw a line here. For 40m, you should be buying a proven and fully developed fullback

Is Alvaro good fit for a wingback position? If he is, then it's a no brainer (if he wants to come of course).

His attacking side has always been there. The defensive side was the one more in question. 7 G + A in 30 games this season for Benfica. Offcourse, positionally, he will have to learn but I am sure Amorim can help him out

Feel this probably gets done for 35m (30 + add ons ideally)

27 is a really generous offer for a player of his profile. I'd actually say 27 should probably be the higher end of the deal if all achievable add ons are met.

Lecce have clearly gotten a head rush from hearing that the world's premier overpayers are interested in one of their players.

I'd hope we move on to another target.

Paying 40mil for this kid while selling Garna for 55mil would be peak Utd.

Fully agree. This kid won’t solve our problems. We can’t keep splashing high money anymore

If Leece are waiting on Napoli for the summer, let us move on. If they think that Napoli will come even close those figures, good luck to them.

His YouTube compilation reminds me of the Antony compilation. I was unimpressed. Nothing special.
Hope I'm wrong this time.

Or it’s mid season and they’re in a relegation battle and don’t want to lose one of their best players without it being worth it.

This type of nuance doesn't belong on the transfer forum mate

Muppetry only thank you very much

Let's not kid ourselves, this is full-on united tax. It's the same rational that lead to us paying 86 million for Antony. Paying close to 40 million is our signal to the rest of the clubs that is the same ol united.
Personally, I would offer them the same deal as Napoli and wait till the summer.

for a player of his profile for $40 mil ? Get stuffed.

Walk away. On to the next target.

Can we not sign players from that league for a while, they never work out as we expected, from Veron to onono

If we did that for every league where the players hadn't worked out for us in the last 10 years we would end up shopping from a very small pool!

If we are pushing this hard to sign a project for £30m then it means Garnacho is likely gone.

Paying close to or above 30m is too much given where we are at financially for a player with it all to prove.

Also time we made a statement and walked away to show we don’t get bent over anymore. We are having to potentially sell good young player to generate money to gamble with.

This does not look like an immediate impact player so what’s the rush. We will be better placed in summer to look at deals like this.

Topped off by sacking the manager who wants to play with wingbacks a few months later, only to replace him with a manager who prefers wingers - would be a classic United move.

After refusing to play him for the first 10 games in order to "bed him in."
