Patrick Dorgu | United in talks

I think we do have a competent hierarchy now who can get deals done quickly. They’ve just gotta deal with the absolute shitshow finances first.

Wonder who we might bring in should be manage to offload casemiro and Rashford. The way this has come out of nowhere after Antony’s departure tells me we probably have more lined up.
i think that’s the case too - which makes me a bit happier about the situation because bringing Amorim in now to play his system without any signings to facilitate it for the rest of the season would have been a disaster - as we have seen thus far.

That would be insanity (excuse the pun). We have someone capable of playing RWB. We don't have someone capable of playing LWB.
:)

I am basing it based on what I have read on how Ruben likes to fit pieces in his puzzle. Also, I don't think Dalot would shine as a RWB either. We think so because he hasn't played it a lot yet. Once he plays there we'll see his limitations as his attacking instincts & output is poor.

I guess we'll find out if we sign him, but I won't be surprised if he starts at RWB.

More than happy to acknowledge my lack of expertise in this particular transfer. Dorgu may well be a fantastic signing and end up holding down our left side for the next decade.

However, where I think concern is more than fair is around the quoted fee and the severe restrictions we know we're operating under.

Given Dorgu's profile, age and experience you're likely looking at a player who could end up performing similarly to Kerkez, Ait-Nouri, Robinson or Munoz in the EPL. I think everyone here would consider that outcome a pretty decent success and return.

The differences? Kerkez cost Bournemouth 6.6m initially, Nouri cost under 10m, Robinson cost 2m and Munoz 6.9m. All the clubs in question are currently above us in the league.

I don't understand why would agree to a fee that's 4 times that of the players above, especially when he cost Lecce 400k not too long ago.

This would be a really poor use of funds regardless of Dorgu's talent/potential, especially as he's currently being linked to absolutely no-one else.
Well taken there, buddy :)

I haven’t seen Dorgu play a game of football yet, neither had I watched (or at least not noticed) Kerkez when he played at AZ after a failed spell at AC Milan, and I’m not sure what Bournemouth really paid for him. (Benfica allegedly declined to buy him at a demand of €20m, the Bournemouth fee was undisclosed according to what I can find.) So it’s difficult for me to have an opinion of wethwr they are/were similarily talented or valuable at that point in their development. Maybe Dorgu looks a bigger prospect in Serie A than Kerkez did in Eredivisie, I don’t know. Neither have I anything to tell me that Dorgu should be valued the same. For me, you could just as easily compare Dorgu with a young Cafu or a young Bebe. Unless you have a particular reason, comparing those two seems pretty haphazard to me.

Looking at a players age, profile and experience to predict what level he will prform at in the future seems also as irrelevant as looking at his height, hair colour and shoe size when deciding what level he will be reaching as a footballer.

I think we should probably refer to those who have watched these players a bit more to come up with educated guesses of their value.

No but if you go for Robinson or Kerkez you're looking at 60m+.

We paid 50M for AWB 6 years ago.

We can't judge all future transfers using the AWB move as a baseline. We stupidly overpaid on that one.

Good chance I've got this wrong but the world record for a fullback/wingback is still about £60 million isn't it?

I'm also a bit sceptical whether we should pay that much for him, but then again, City just signed two young CBs for 40m and 35m euros each. I guess it's become "normal" to ask for crazy fees whem renowed clubs show interest.

I'd imagine this one has legs, he's exactly the type of profile Amorim seems to be crying out for in terms of a mix of technicality and physicality, and looks to have the attacking traits he'd look for in a WB.

I'm finding it difficult to decipher his stats in comparison to other players given he's played both LB and RW for Lecce this season across the board, but he does look good from the eye test.

Lecce have conceded 4+ goals four times this year when he's been playing on the left hand-side so will be interesting to have a look at those games and see if he's particularly at fault for any of those.

Yeah I think that’s just the going rate for any PL team interested in anyone. Dalot and Amad had about 3 senior games between them and were over 20m each. That was 5 years ago.

Feedback from those who watch him regularly seems to be underwhelming, there’s uncertainty over his favoured position and he isn’t exactly a cheap punt when we’re broke. You aren’t filling me with confidence guys.

I'm slightly apprehensive about this. Admittedly I know very little of Dorgu but looking at his compilations it is hard to tell what position he will be covering for us. Technically from what I saw he looked a bit wanting, again from the little I observed. However it is clear that he is an athlete with a strong physique, definitely something we are missing in the team.

The story has legs, it will run. The player has legs, two in fact. As does the metaphor. Dorgu has bulk and height; he is youthful and the clips I’ve seen suggest a baller with speed and energy. Hopefully can deliver a cross, find the net an odd time, press and do other defensive duties.

Can’t say I’m massively positive about this, hopefully a surprise success. We desperately need a quick impact.

We need system players, I'd wager the right system puts players up a level.

Most players out of the system they're not coached in won't work, the reason you get players that slot in and do brilliantly is a blend of coaching and systems, if his attributes fit with what we need then great

Didn’t watch him play, but if he’s left footed / has pace / athletic / dribbling skills and is physically enforcing then he will do just fine as we’re seriously short in those areas. We need to become a real athletic powerhouse of the team that no one is looking forward to playing.

This is definitely what I'm expecting us to go after, very young players with potential and let Amorim and his coaches mould them. Slightly surprised by the price tag but hopefully the deal ends up cheaper and have more performance related payouts.
Until we get rid of Rashford and/or Casemiro and with no Champions League younger, cheaper, lower wages, high potential is going to be our MO

Nope, know nothing about him, and that should tell you he is an unknown, an unknown should not cost a pretty penny, €35 plus bonuses is hefty for someone most of us know nothing about
So you’ve known a lot about every player who came to the Prem and turned out to be worth that kind of money?

This is my question - I have no idea on him but if he is left footed, has a good touch - the bar is low here, just standard PL level - and has out and out athleticism he immediately starts for us. If he has dribbling and a decent cross he's probably first name on the team sheet.

I really hope this is a ruse to lower the Ait Nouri price. Looks a bit underwhelming to me.
Could be signing a player 3 years younger than him with potential to become better than him. A lot of unknown transfers can work out and be a really good signing. If the scouts have seen enough of him and think he’s worth it then we should trust them… we’ve always gone for well known established players and look how that turned out.

A clip just popped up on my twitter feed. Essentially a compilation of his last 13 -1vs1- duels (defensive 1-v1's). He looks a terrible defender so let's hope he is to play a bit further up the pitch.

Great to have positivity on a signing, oh no sorry it's my mistake the CAF has wrote him off
who wrote him off? Just said the signing *looks* underwhelming. We all hope he'll come good but given our history its not abnormal to be apprehensive. He looks a bit raw but some good attributes.

Obviously a lot of people here won't have seen much of him because he plays for Lecce, but he's not that obscure a footballer in a more general sense. Lecce reportedly turned down approaches for him from Chelsea and Spurs last year, and Liverpool have been linked with him for a while. Think Napoli were linked with him too.

If we're skint as reported, why are we buying 30-40m player, a 20 y.o. prospect?

Selling someone I reckon

My point is more about the cost and age. Can we just buy 2 players with that cost (as we need many positions to fill up), and why are we buying a 20 y.o. prospect that inconsistency is expected, instead of the 24 or about age bracket?

Might be a good player, but I'm starting to feel that this isn't the environment for 20 years old anymore. We need players that can make a difference and lift up the squad.

Ye we need a Bruno like signing. Someone to come in and give the rest of the squad a lift.

The fee doesn't correlate with some of his videos online, hope its scouted well..

Yeah but he’s the only player we’ve got that clubs are willing to buy with actual cash.
True but if he goes aswell as Rashford and Antony as already gone then we’re going to definitely need another attacker or 2. If we can sign a forward player aswell as a LWB with the money from Garnacho then that would make sense.
