Patrick Dorgu | 2024/25 Performances

Yeah this is what I see too.

All those over laps Garnacho ignores, he says nothing and shows no emotion just jogs back. i want him to be absolutely mad at Garna in those situations.
He got played quite a few today by Garnacho

I've refrained from commenting as its still very very early in his career but I posted quite a lot ahead of his transfer in a few threads when we were looking at a january wing back, that whilst i hadnt closely followed the player it was easy enough to scout on both the data and the eye test that he was incredibly raw and was a prospect level "punt" talent, (not a potential generational talent a la Yoro etc prospect.) and there were other options in the market at the time.

With that in mind i questioned the price tag, which while the wages ended up being good, the overall outlay was still far too high for where he was at in his player tragectory, and also the expectations that we needed from the position at the time he was unlikely to fill.

25m + addons even in this market can get you an established player, at least to plug a short term hole, and if a top target was unavailable we could have looked to our academy to fill in until the summer. There was options out there, hell you could have done a loan.

These transfers add up, and it leaves us in such a weak position over time. Heres hoping he cracks on and has a good career with us.

I’ve seen him get bullied a bit too much for my liking. Especially when he tries to take on a fullback. Wan Bissaka is much better than he is

I like AWB, but we are talking about the left side. I am more annoyed about Alvaro being sold for peanuts than us letting go of Wan Bissaka.

He has an awful long way to go before he should be starting for a good side. We aren't at the moment but that should be the aim

Concerning lack of concentration and awareness.

I think that's what you'd expect of an inexperienced 20 year old defender.

Would be unusual if that wasn't an issue.

Can go into next season with him as first choice. Should be no more than a squad player.

He seems to go down quite easily without getting fouls. He looks like he'd be strong, but we dont see much of him using that strength to shrug players off

Dalot played the pass for Bruno to hit the bar and scored a goal which he took well. Theres plenty for him to improve too but he was far better than Dorgu, again

I am talking about him playing lwb, where he was largey poor. He looks better now on the right.

Some of his defending reminded me of Mose from the US Office, where he just runs alongside the car really closely to watch, but doesn’t do anything.

Not writing the kid off at all but still confused why we didn't go back in for Alvaro with the buy back. From the eye test he just looks a technically better player all around at the moment and is young himself. Hopefully Dorgu improves over the next couple of years.

He’s clearly very strong for a 20 year old, or a fullback in general. He doesn’t look very fast though - decent enough. The Valencia comparisons are way off.

Evra was a bit shite when he srrived too, so give him time.
Evra had played in a champions league final and been outstanding in the run to that final. The two situations are nothing alike

Dalot is miles ahead of him as a footballer..it's not even close. This guy needs some proper developing before we should even consider him as first choice

Was not comparing Dalot to Dorgu, just saying that Dalot on the left was poor.

He scored a brilliant goal and was generally decent. Dorgu looked suspect on two goals we conceded, did nothing going forward and was getting done on the left all game. I honestly don't know why we signed him. We already have a raw and still developing LB in Amass. We needed a ready made player for that position

I said this already before we signed him: He is not better than Malacia and reminds me of him.
Pound land version of wan bissaka so far. I said the same from the all touch videos and we had some "scouts know more than you" merchants.

Hes young and should get plenty of time but if we throw him in as a starter next season it's a bit of a Hojlund situation for LWB.

Onana player well in a CL final.

Evra also started poorly, despite the things you mentioned; yet he is seen as one of the best modern lbs around.

Give Dorgu time. I’m far from convinced. He looks to have less than average technique, only decent pace, but he had a cool name!

I think that Højlund is more talented, and I have the feeling that if he was sold to a club in Spain or back to Italy, he would be better there than in the PL. But I am not so sure about Dorgu`s talent. He is fair on the ball, but not good at defending.

Think he is struggling a bit at the moment - I’m not usually too charitable with players but in his defence he has come into a dysfunctional team in a much harder and more demanding league mid way through a season. I think he has shown bits of potential and is now having a dip - haven’t written him off yet

Like a lot of players tonight there was good play and poor play. He's young but there is lots of potential there.

Far better is very generous, they were about even.

Dalot's shooting was better, Dorgu's passing was better, defensively they were about the same with Dorgu ahead in tackles and Dalot ahead in clearances, in terms of duels Dorgu slightly edged it (one more won, one fewer lost).

In terms of key moments, Dalot had the higher highs and lower lows, brilliant goal, but Fofana had him on toast when he came on, beating him for Lyon's 2nd goal and Dalot just couldn't be bothered to follow him for their 3rd.

Extremely concerned by his lack of actual footballing skills. Great engine, quick, willing runner, occupies the spaces a wb should but man he’s a bad footballer. Most alarming for me is he doesn’t seem to know how to strike a ball properly.

I think we’ll need to try and work on his crossing, cut backs etc to conjure up a decent footballer out of him. But that basic technical ability isn’t there.

You can't flag Dorgu as suspect for Lyon's goals and ignore Dalot getting turned inside out for their second and deciding not to follow Fofana giving him a free run at Maguire for their 3rd.

Both Dorgu and Dalot had decent first halves but were poor afterwards (probably due to some fatigue for both of them).

He was not good today but still should have had an assist if we had a striker on the pitch. He has some good parts to his game but have to improve in other parts but it's still early days for him.

Not sure how we scouted and spent £30m to not get an upgrade on Malacia. Was a very low bar.

What good is having physical strength if his defending on the floor and the air is still terrible

Can’t cross, shoot, dribble and isn’t particularly fast. Why the feck have we signed him as a wingback or at all.

I keep saying it but this guy is a CM and not a Manutd level one.

I love the fact that he can really hold off a player and dribble out of trouble. It really helps us to beat the pressure. There was about 6 times that he did this and we're crying out for players that'll accept the ball under pressure.

it does seem like only we would have paid anything like the fee we spent on him. Genuinely an awful signing
Can imaging us continuing to sign players like him though who don't work out because the fees are lower than pl proven players

Some of the criticism is mental. Obviously he’s not the finished product but he has so much potential

That casual jogging and not being close to the player, probably studied AWB. His decision making and overall technique is subpar, so many promising counterattacks only ruined by him. Understand that he's raw but he's got long way to improve.

Thought he had a few good moments of interplay with Garnacho on the left, and he gets forward so much more than Dalot or Maz do when playing in the same position, which unfortunately Garnacho doesn't take advantage of nearly enough.

He also brings a bit of pace and physicality to the team which we badly lack.

But he's technically not a very good footballer. His striking of the ball is terrible,
I'm not sure he's got a shot on target since he joined the club. Can put in the odd good cross, like the one in the 1st half which Hojlund should have been on the end of.

His defending was very poor. Gave his man way too much space and positioning was terrible for Lyon 2nd goal.

I know he's young and all that, but unlike say Yoro or Mainoo, I think he's got a low technical ceiling so I'd have my doubts about his making it at United. Can easily see him being moved back to Italy end of next season.

I hate writing a signing off so early but I’m just not seeing his quality. He’s not even an upgrade on Malacia.

We should’ve kept the money if nobody better was available - Amass could have done as much as Dorgu has.

What do you think that potential amounts to? What do you think he will be producing in terms of goals and assists from left wingback in 2 seasons?

The zero intensity to his game is one of the biggest faults he has . Nowhere near ready to be a starter and not sure he should be starting v Bilbao
