From a Yahoo/Eurosport article on Monaco:

And this could just be the start. According to Eurosport reporters in Paris, the club are far from done with their summer purchasing and are set to announce a huge deal for Atletico Madrid striker Falcao on Monday.

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes are also thought to be close to agreeing transfers to the principality.

Anyone else heard this? :(

A lot of change is possible. It'd make business sense to cash in on Evra if they're paying silly money. But from a real world perspective, feck off Monaco.

Love Pat. Would hate to see him leave. Not just his ability, but he's a great character who seems to love the club. I hope he loves the club enough to want to stay. He's lauded for being a huge presence in the dressing room, and he's essentially our captain (technically vice captain, but Evra has probably captained our side more than anyone in recent years). He would be very difficult to replace. His influence and his drive. We've not really had a cemented left winger for a long time, and he's made that flank all his own from full back.

There are alot of departures from United this summer, so it would be good to hang on to as many big, experienced players as possible. Pat is certainly one of those.

Bear in mind that we could still be looking for Baines. If we were to get a tidy sum for the (slightly) older Evra that would cover the purchase of Baines then I could see the deals going ahead.

Not saying it's what I want but it would make sense from Moyes perspective.

The Evra murmurs of discontent from some of our fans seemed to quieten down last season, so would be an ironic time to leave.

And there's always a risk of changing too much too soon, so Evra staying seems most sensible.
There's certainly higher priorities than replacing him with the likes of Baines.

I have moved your posts to a new thread. Please try not to post unrelated stuff in threads - it's far better to create new threads if there's not already a thread covering the topic.

A transfer story on Patrice Evra does not belong in the United forum in a thread about how funny a character Patrice Evra is.

Hope it's not true. That said, I'm sure it would be tempting for the club to cash in whilst they have an opportunity.

I really hope this is not true, we need Pat next season to help the transition to a new manager. He's a strong character, one of the leaders and a passionate united man. Dismantel too many people and the foundations start to crack.

feck Evra going anywhere. You can't have Fergie, Evra, Rooney and perhaps Anderson going in just one window and expect the transition to go smoothly.

he said he's staying didn't he?

Id hate to see him go especially knowing it would probably mean we are willing to blow 20m plus on Baines (too much money for a position we don't need to strengthen).

Wouldn't want to lose Evra, but Fabio was lauded as the better of the Da Silva twins and captained brazil at u-17 World Cup. Rafael has made huge strides, but if we were to lose Evra, I'd be happier with giving Fabio a shot of making the LB spot his.

I love him, but it's understandable that the club might just want to get a decent fee for him while we can. Also, at 32 you could say that his best is behind him. I personally can't see him having as good a season as the one gone, again.

Anyone who cares about the quality of this club would instantly reject him going to Monaco.

Evra is an absolute hero for his personality alone. He had a very good season. He clearly has a massive character, and is a bit of a leader - he must stay.

Hope it's not true. If we brought in Baines, we'd have arguably just as good of a left back, but evra is a player who is just loved amongst the fans, and you can tell he loves the club. He's been one of my favourite players these past few years, and even though he was pretty shit last season, he's been amongst the best this season.

Love the guy, and would be gutted if he left, but a nice handsome fee for him and the purchase of Coentrao? Sadly I don't see that happening, and if he went the transfer of Baines would happen, so for that reason I beg him to stay.

Wouldn't blame him if Evra wants to spend time back in France, while earning better wage (will be his last good contract). But Evra could leave if we'd get either Baines or Coentrao. He's still one of the best, and should be replaced only by one of the best also.

Completely agree with all of this.

I'd be happy with someone talented like Shaw as replacement but not yet, we need Evra during the transition period.

Shaw is still 17. I'm hoping we don't go with Rafael route again, tolerating mistakes (that cost us in big games) before he (might be) fully develop into good left-back.

Not a chance. I always get the impression Evra's very happy here.

That's an odd way of looking at it. Taking that risk and accepting those mistakes has left us with the best RB in the league and arguably the most promising young RB in the world. I'm not saying get Shaw, but that argument for always buying established quality is obviously flawed.

Agree with this. Baines and Coentrao are both probably available, and we have Fabio waiting in the wings as well.

Evra has been a fantastic servant to the club but he is 32 and is not irreplacable. He would be leaving on a high, getting a big payout, going back to his home country, and we would likely get a good fee from PSG or Monaco for him.

There's flawed argument with taking the risk by depend on 17-19 y.o. as our main fullback also.

All things considered, I'll take the risk of buying an established player.

Why the hell would Falcao move to Monaco instead of a Manchester club or Chelsea that he has been linked with?

Ligue 1 is hardly the most prestigious league to win, and they aren't going to be any closer to the CL than AM. Is he one of those failure magnets like Michael Owen?

He wanted to leave 3 years back but stayed for SAF, I think with him gone he may choose to leave now. Fantastic player and giant of the Utd family but it might be the right time, with players like Fabio, Shaw, Contreao and Baines all in contention to replace him.

He's the weak link in our defence and it's the position we need strengthening. So if we get a decent bid, we should look to get rid of him. Good guy but our defence would be better with someone like Coentrao or Baines.

Huh? Have you been watching United this season and not a re-run of last season? (where he wasn't even that bad)

He's been one of our best players this season, and I think he's better at defending than Baines, which is supported by stats as he wins more headers, clears the ball more, blocks the ball more and makes far more interceptions.

I would be gutted to see him leave, but I would understand if he did.

In this instance, you might be right. I just can't think of a worse example for your argument that Rafael, since trusting him has paid off so magnificently.

He was better going forward compared to last year but his positionning was very bad a times, we conceded a lot of goals because of the gaps he left in defense. However, he seems very popular in the dressing room. The Evra of 06/09 was irreplacable but since 2010 he's not been the same anymore. His contract ends in 2014, so maybe we'll cash in.
