Evra has been a magnificent servant for this club and the best left back we've ever had. Still I think having Baines as our first choice left back will help the club immensely.
Don't go!
Love Paddy. One of my favourite players of the past few years.
My favourite Paddy moment was when Carrick scored against Wigan in 2009, and he joined in the celebrations. It was shortly after all that furore surrounding Rafa Benitez making a derogatory hand-gesture when Liverpool scored against Blackburn to pretty much wrap up the game, so Rafa started making some sort of gesture on the sidelines that the game was all over. A hand gesture which Fergie stepped in and commented on, to stick up for his buddy Big Sam. So when Paddy celebrated with Carrick for his goal against Wigan which effectively gave us the title, he sprinted to the United fans and leapt through the air, mimicking the same hand gesture.
Shame there's not many good pictures of it
Hopefully this is all just rumours and he retires here. He deserves that.
What is it they say about sentimentality and football?
If Moyes wants to improve left back and signs Baines to replace Evra I'm all for it. Whatever Moyes thinks he needs to be as successful as possible as United manager, especially early on.
And also a statue, retired shirt number, name the whole ground after him. Paddy Bowl.
Or something.

Would you say the same if one of our top players left for a bigger club? No place for sentimentality in football?
He's been a fantastic player for us and his impact goes deeper than what he does on the pitch, ofcourse people would be sad to see him go.
One of our top players leaving would have nothing to do with sentimentality. Evra is 32, not at his best and we're talking about a currently better player coming in. For all we know it could make or break our title defence next season
He was excellent last season. I wouldn't mind seeing Baines here, ready to take over in a year or at most two, and to allow us to seriously ease Evra's workload in the meantime. But I'd be disappointed to see him go. Still easily good enough for us.
I'd be sad to see Evra go just as I was sad to see Gary Neville go. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be the right decision.
I think Evra himself wants to go in this case. There is nothing Moyes could do except to find a replacement
There was a mutter few weeks ago that Monaco were willing to offer 10m for Evra, that is good business if you ask me although we will all hate to see the player go
Both of those situations are completely different though. Evra is still a top class player, Neville was a shadow of his former self.
I got your point. What am saying is its easy to say no place for sentimentality when we're getting someone better in but would you have the same opinion if a player showed no sentimentality and left for a better club? No. You'd hold it against him. Loyalty etc.
Baines is too good to be a backup. He's as good as Evra is atm if not better.

I believe Evra as being a shadow of his former self. Obviously not to the extent that Gary Neville was in his final season, but very much an inferior player to the Evra of old regardless.
I want him to retire with United. Absolute legend, imho.
SHPL (Suck His Pussy Lampard!)
Even to the detriment of the team?
If it is true that he wants to leave because we are interested in signing Baines then I am sorry but as much as I love Parry but he can go.
He has had the LB spot to himself almost as long as he been here, yes we have had a few others in his time but none that really threatened his regular place in the side, even when half of us on here were dissapointed with his form before last season he knew his place was almost gauranteed.
Baines is different though and he knows he would have to compete for it, he wouldn't automatically be in the starting 11. So all of a sudden he has some competition potentially and he wants to leave, as much of a legend as he is this is a poor show from him.
I understand he wants to play every game possible but he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world and has had things his own way for most of the time he's been here, most other players have competition for their place, why should he be any better? If he was as staunch united as some like to think he is surely he would see that it would only make us stronger.
Sorry paddy but if this is your stance on it then maybe it is time to move on.
Reports suggest he wanted to leave since around April or so, presumably before any bid for Baines this time around, so what you stated doesn't really make sense.
Of course if he wishes to leave, then I'll just be glad that Evra performed so well for us over the past 7 seasons or so and he can enjoy his next chapter in his life. He had that blip in form for about 2 seasons (10/11 and 11/12) where his lack of tracking back and being easily beaten was infuriating, but its hard to bear a grudge against him because of what he has represented during his time here.
I don't understand how people here think? Evra leaving? No way!
