Pato Rodriguez

United are rumoured to be signing a South American let alone Argentinian player and Marcosdeto hasn't given us the local view yet.

Hang your head in shame.

I may be colour blind, but these boots look pink...

Click Manchester is hardly reliable, they couldn't spell Patrice the other day, well the headline was Patrick Evra

rumoured 10 million quid bid accepted.

no idea how we'll get a work permit for this lad though. "exceptional talent" clause i reckon?

hope it works out better than our last signing from independiente.

He looks like an exciting player, never heard of him before. Are we gonna sign him then?

According to Twitter we're waiting on a work permit. I don't think any of the papers have reported it yet so not sure if the work permit is true.

Rotting in the Inter reserves isnt he.
Poor Kerlon. that seal dribble thing ruined his promising career

Lots of knee injuries I think, didn't realise he was at Inter though.

Not to be too hyperbolic, but his movement/dribbing/body shape are incredibly similar to Cronaldo in this

In fairness Pato Rodriguez has already got the names part down.

I mean unless he'd been called Messi Ronaldo or Pele Maradona* or something he couldn't be doing much better.

*or Carroll Henderson - apologies for the obvious omission

He certainly looks good on the videos, but how come he's so cheap, and why haven't other big clubs been in for him?

If it had no name on it, I would think that was actually Ronaldo from a distance, the movements are uncanny.

Here's an assessment of Pato (Patito) Rodriguez from Norwegian scout and columnist Tor-Kristian Karlsen (@karlsentk on Twitter). He's quite into the South American game, so I trust his judgement on this one.

In other words: I hope our apparent interest in him is just a load of BS.

"Many are curious about Independiente player Patricio "Patito" Rodriguez after he was linked to Manchester United. Here is a highly personal assessment of the Argentine who apparently excites many.

Before I report specifically on the player, it is useful to point to any conditions that we should take this transfer gossip with a fat pinch of salt: The apparent interest from Manchester United is from the Argentine side, which is no surprise - it is the player's father and agent who have commented on the alleged attention from the Premier League in the local press. Moreover, Independiente is in major financial difficulties, Rodriguez priced at 10 million euro (!) and it may well be that United's being used to up the hype surrounding the boy. But even more important: Patricio Rodriguez is far from Manchester United class.

Though the talent of Rodriguez is well known - as an Argentine footballing chap said to me recently "on the basis of what Patito does on the training ground, he'd already been at Real Madrid." But what he delivers on the pitch is a whole different story. Earlier this season Independiente's manager Antonio Mohamed, reportedly had a serious conversation with the lad - a one-way conversation that sounded something like "You're a great talent, you're bursting with potential - but you rarely deliver when I give you a chance in the starting eleven or as a substitute. This must be season you go from being a promising prospect to a grown up footballer. " So a few months back Independiente hardly even knew what to do with the boy.

But 21-year-old apparently listened to the coach's advice. During the last 3-4 months, he has performed more consistenly and at a higher level than before. Yet far from sufficient to merit the link to a Champions League finalist.

Most people have probably heard that Patricio Rodriguez is an offensive midfielder. I remember him as very slight, if not skinny, during his first seasons for Independiente. Now he has "beefed up" 2-3 pounds and can be reminiscent of Pablo Aimar in body building (and to a certain degree of play). I've seen him described as a "playmaker", but he is not at all: to justify the designation is missing the vision, the range of passing and the strategic / geometric abilities. And he has too little ball contact to put his stamp on the offensive play.

In contrast, Rodriguez - like Aimar - is an offensive player who is constantly looking for 1v1 situations (though he rarely comes out victorious by more than 25-30% of these situations during a match but it looks great now he is successful), very quick feet and quick moves on tight spots, a good right foot shot (the left can also be used) - a typical "handful" when he is in mood.

On the other hand Rodriguez a "on and off"-type with nice touches in the course of five intense quality minutes before he disappears from the action in the next ten minutes. In my opinion such behavior witnesses mental weakness. And combined with physical weakness, I am very unsure if this is a winning recipe for a fairytale story in the Premiership.

I'm still not at all convinced that the talk Manchester United being interested is more than fiction. If Rodriguez was 17, he could be exciting, but he's four years older and still an unfinished article the Argentine doesn't strike me as a potential Premier League hit."

Young player, bags of talent but inconsistent ? Shocking.

Wonder if Fergie has turned his attention to Rodriguez after the valuation and interest in Sanchez has rocketed

Come to think of it.. What you said really makes a lot of sense.. You may be right..

Yes, but he doesn't actually achieve anything in those clips..In the first one he manages to win a throw in from a less promising position than he was in to begin with, in the second one he does basically the same, tries but fails to actually beat his man, almost loses it, and then passes it backwards, and in the 3rd one he makes a decent burst, doesn't get a cross in (again), backtracks towards the corner flag and gets tackled.

So yes, he looks like Cristiano, minus all the actually good bits. And if they were his "highlights" from that match, they're shit.

We're not really signing him, are we? It reminds me of Dodo saga, what happened to him?
