United closing on Argentine starlet's signature?

Manchester United reportedly on verge of landing Independiente midfielder Pato Rodriguez
By Mark Bollons June 11, 2011

Manchester United are reportedly closing on a deal for Independiente midfielder Pato Rodriguez.

Click Manchester claims the Argentine starlet is waiting on a work permit application to clear before signing a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United which will see the player move to the club on July 1st.

Little information is given about the player in reports, although the youngster scored three times in 27 appearances for his club last season.

Newspaper reports in the player's homeland claimed Independiente were not willing to let the player leave for less than €10 million, although they did not confirm that it was Manchester United who had made an approach over the player's availability.

Sir Alex Ferguson has shown this summer that he's looking to invest in youth at the club, with England U21 international Phil Jones and Spanish starlet David de Gea both close to joining Manchester United this summer.

The Old Trafford chief claimed back in May that he was only looking to make three signings at the club this summer, and Pato could potentially be the third player on the Manchester United list.

This rumour has been running for over a week really but mostly on twitter. Starting to appear on a few sites now though not exactly very reliable ones. Anyway, the rumours linking us to Pato Rodriguez originally came from Argentina so perhaps this is one to keep an eye on. He seems like a talented player regardless.

Yeah, I think the rumours originally came from a "ITK" on twitter last week. I don't know what to believe, but I've heard he's massively talented. (Similar frame to Messi, I'm not comparing them though, but prepare to hear people yell "Needs to bulk up")

Needs to bulk up.

Also, FM Stats for all you muppets.

Nicknamed 'the duckling'

That's a winners nickname right there

Interesting to see this one expanding, it seems pointless for someone to make it up. It says he's a midfielder but I imagine he'd end up on the wing if he came here.

I've got a wierd hunch this one could be correct from the moment it started to appear on twitter. Just seems like 'our kind' of signing.

Yeah, there is a bit of the Hernadez deal about this one.

If his positional sense and on the ball skills are top draw. He probably wouldn't.

I admit I am going off the vids Chief but he looks like the classic free role player that South American teams use, that end up being converted when they get here.

Who knows. I was just saying that because a Scholes was a pure free role 10. But his positional sense allowed him to shift into midfield seamlessly

Fair point but Scholesy is exceptional, however if we are buying this lad you'd have to figure he has some midfield potential I guess, as more wingers seems pointless.

Means absolutely nothing. Just about EVERY player being sold from Argentina is that good - before they play in europe that is.

Left winger isn't he? Wouldn't make sense signing him and Young tbh

Reminds me of CR in the way he takes on players, can he be the next one?

I thought the same thing when I saw one of those vids.

When I saw this on twitter I actually thought it might happen, one of our quick deals out of no where, we'll have to wait and see

Btw, came off the bench against Lanús last time out so he may be involved tonight when Independiente face Tigre.

Look, he's got a foreign sounding name & south american good looks...As long as he wears shiny brightly coloured boots & there's at least one video of him doing a fancy trick in a terrible league miles away, I'm sold.

I may be colour blind, but these boots look pink...
