Pathetic fans booing Maguire

Maguire in this Utd team is like having 1970s Geoffrey Boycott in the current England cricket team playing Bazball.

Sad to hear our own fans booing him. I'm not a fan of Maguire but would never boo our own players, he must have at least a very strong character and mental strength to put up with his and rival fans booing. I hope he gets a move soon, he's been a good professional and doesn't deserve to become a figure of fun. United the club paid 80 million for a player of his profile and attributes.

We saw this with Fellaini and quite rightly Jose reacted. There was also a strange prolonged jeering mocking of Bastian we he returned. I get maybe a cheer or two as he comes on and makes a few passes but it just went on and on to silly levels of disrespect in my view.

Maybe it's a strange reaction to the situation some fans find the club in, spoiled by years of success but it's still wrong to direct boos at the player.

He really needs to go, I don’t see a way back for him. Fans have already made their minds up.

What have they made up in their minds? That he is not good enough and shouldnt be playing for Manchester United? I dont see how anyone could not be in agreement with that. He needs to go, frankly he needed to be gone already.

Have absolutely no problem with a player being booed. Fans have to make their voices heard sometimes, and it’s one of the few ways they can actually do it as it pertains to player performance. This guy is earning about 800 grand month, it’s absolutely okay to boo him when he’s making mistakes league two players don’t make.

I personally don't understand the booing. These fans don't get to watch United very often and I get why they're unhappy about the lineup, but then you can't also complain about Maguire doing that. It's the authentic United experience.

It's like booing the Stones when they play Satisfaction. You can't please some people.

Shouldn't boo him. But the poor fans who've paid for this match thinking they were going to see a strong XI can hope that they are able to say that they attended Harry Maguire's final match as a United player. That might prove to be some kind of turning point.

That is if West Ham are still interested of course.

He should not have played in these friendlies as his value plummets with every single game

I’ll never understand that type of behaviour, if you have to boo someone, surely you start with the opposition, completely bizarre.

I wonder if the same brave, vocal, entitled fans who pay to watch United, or the ones who say “he shouldn’t be booed but I can understand it”, blah, yawn, will also be brave and vocal enough to boo a certain player if he comes back.

Got a problem with Greenwood?

When it comes to opposition players, fans only boo the greatest threats - Shearer, Suarez, Gerrard... then for our boys Beckham, Rooney, Ronaldo..

So our fans are simply applying the same logic: Maguire is the greatest threat to our improvement.

He needs to go and he needs to know this.

The absolute neck on some in here, Irish fans absolutely dogged by the club today. They can do what they want.

embarrassing to hear it. His only crime is just not being good enough. I want him gone, to be fair, but it should be amicable cos he has always tried to give his best.

I’d save the pearl clutching reactions too though. A game like this where you pay to dollar and get a second string side is always gonna turn into a bit of a panto. I’m sure we’ll get Mexican waves and all sorts.

Being booed like it's some sort of joke at this stage.

Sad for him and the club. United fans shouldn't really be doing it, we all know he isn't good enough but it's not from lack of effort.

There were worse players last season and they didn't get booed.

I agree, but my point was more around how I think the fans have decided he will be the scapegoat and every time he makes a mistake (which is often) it’s going to be amplified. He needs to go for his own career, mental health and professional pride.

Yeah but those other players didn't go out in the press with "I'm good enough, I have nothing to prove" quotes.

Would I boo him? no.

Should he be at the club? no.

Has he himself made the situation worse? 100%

Everything he says is wrong and his demeanor is of someone who thinks he is better and more important than he actually is. Beyond his football ability he just isn't likable.

It drives me nuts when people say he wasn’t good enough for United, he was a sought after player when we signed him.

So were Soyuncu and Wout Faes for a while. Even Wes Morgan was in a Premier League Team Of The Season. on FIFA

As an added bonus none of them had been relegated 4 times.

Maguire is a throwback centre half and is not suited to the modern way of playing. He definitely hasn't been the same since the business when he was on holiday and was arrested for assaulting a police officer and attempted bribery of a court official. He's back in court in Feb next year. Having all that on his mind won't help him. Still, not sure any United player should be booed.
The fact this excuse has been allowed to grow roots in defence of him is dangerous.

There are multiple examples of poor play throughout his United career, he wasn’t a world beater pre-Greece. He was never good enough & was given far more goodwill than multiple other United players during his tenure.

Its something ive wondered about - why do we never win fluke Cls like liv vs Milan or Chelseas recent 1.
We only ever win where we are no doubt best itw.
I made a thread here years ago about this. Always wondered about it. We only win when we're actually one of the best. I can't see us finishing 4th in the league and winning a CL.

He was never worth £80mil or the captaincy, what he came in to be was always out of his reach. Had we signed him for a nominal fee & he stepped up/in here or there then fine but when you’re bought for a World record fee then given the captaincy with no merit you should be judged as such.

Completely agree

We fluked a win against a much better PSG not that long ago. It was a huge part of Ole getting the permanent job.

We just havent been lucky enough to get through the earlier stages by getting easier matches to fluke the win in a final i think. I doubt its more than that.

You still have to be a pretty good team to make it all the way to a CL final and then "fluke" it. We haven't been anywhere near good enough for at least a decade

It is annoying how we didn't win a couple more with Ferguson though, fluked or otherwise

I'm not talking about a result or two here and there. Any team can do that. I'm talking about winning trophies. We've only won the CL when we were the best in our country and one of the best in Europe. Liverpool win it when they're 5th in the league. We don't even come close to a semi unless we're one of the best.

Being one of the best and being pretty good are different though.
