Pathetic fans booing Maguire

Understand him wanting to stay. Hit the jackpot with a move to us. The time was right for him to move on this window though. He is one badly advised individual. On top of that, my own personal opinion of him is that he's a bit of an idiot and not intelligent enough to see that his Utd career has been over for a good while. Between that incident in Greece, and now this, i have to say i do not like him much at all. Deserves the abuse that is coming his way after this i'm afraid.
He can decide for himself if he wants to play football or not. He is snubbing his playing career for money if it was all about personal terms not being agreed

It's his choice but I think he might regret it if Southgate closes the door. He's had enough warnings and other players would probably have been dropped already.

Up to him but wait for the crying articles when he can't go to the world cup as his manager won't pick him often enough.

Southgate will ALWAYS pick him and Harry knows this. Its irrelevant whether he's playing for us or not he will go to any games with England.

Who exactly do England have to replace him? Colwill? Guehi?

Got a feeling this might rear it’s ugly head if, very big if, Southgate does his job and decides to only select players who are playing regularly. Then Harry decides he’s actually not happy being stuck on the bench and being 4th choice CB and all the leaks and usual rubbish start coming out.

I think ten Hag is going to make a statement and he'll get very very few minutes and none meaningful. I cant imagine ten Hag being happy about this situation.

The real statement would be a full banishment to the reserves and nothing less.

He doesn't want to stay. Otherwise he would have said no to WH. He simply wants to get the most money possible.

He was playing hard ball, we're playing hardball. Both are not in a hurry to solve the bottleneck. But WH are. The season already started and they would like to get this solved asap not to wait to the last days of the window and feck themselves if Maguire got injured for example. So they said feck this and moved on to another target. This is just bad for all parties involved imo.

In short...yes. They're pretty promising defenders.

For most managers you would have thought that they are good enough talents that a player who is not playing would be under some danger. Under Gareth Southgate...things are not quite so simple.

Still, it's pretty risky from his point of view. But he's obviously calculated it all out in his own mind and come up with a choice so we'll see how it works for him.

Does Southgate pick CB's from the reserves ? Cause thats what i would do with Maguire.

I'm a little less sympathetic to Maguire now. He's been made a laughing stock despite a good first season for us (imo) and he's happy to stay? I get the moneys important but presumably he could make money through endorsements if he was playing regularly and for England and being stuck in our reserves threatens that.

The only good thing about this fiasco is that finally some of the people supporting this delusional fraud are starting to see his pathetic character for what it is.

2 years of him just being in the squad would be worth it if even Southgate bins him off.

I can't believe he really thinks he'll get game time. Presumably it's an excuse to distract from the real reason which is more money here.

This is a good lesson on the risks of paying big wages and long contracts.

If ETH gave him another minute in main squad he's also guilty. If a player did this during Fergie's era he would rot in the reserves/U-21

Should've boo'ed louder...
He has all the rights to stay, take advantage of United's poor business and collect every pennies from the club but I have no sympathy for some one who value money over self-worth.

He’s going to get a lot more abuse now that he’s not moving.
Imo it's not really abuse if the one at the receiving end does deserve it. For example none would say all the shit MG got is abuse. He deserves it. Same logic I don't think now anyone would say Maguire doesn't deserve what he got, or will get. Calling a spade a spade is simply not abuse imo.

They’re not fans and they should be ashamed of themselves.
People saying its ok to boo are the ones that don't get why a bit of racist slurs hurt anyone or taking the piss out of some kid at school. It's just a joke right? Banter. Having a laugh. They shouldn't be so touchy should they, especially if they earn so much.

Has your opinion changed?

Is this it the fans that are pathetic or the player?

Just wondering what is the tipping point?

Someone gets offered the money that people view as a good deal, yet the other party wants more money and won't leave.

He's pretty much fecked our transfer business to get a better defender in. He better hope Varane and Martinez stay injury free

No, they're arseholes.

Also should the thread title be calling fans pathetic? Every fan is in their own right to boo a player as long as it doesnt cross over into insults etc.

It's fashionable to call fans various names on here. But yeah, even the shittiest of players must be put on a pedestal.

Its to soothe the ego of the fans who think they are better than others. Some are already suggesting that Maguire wont be booed at OT and these are foreign fans who do it. Completely ignoring the boos former players and Maguire himself received at OT

No he’s absolutely fine still obviously why would it change.

If Southgate stops playing him in NT then he only has himself to blame. It's a high risk he took. He knows the manager doesn't fancy him, he's in the bottom of pecking order and will be playing less after playing so little last season.

People have the right to boo him and other people have the right to call them pathetic for doing so. Surely you agree, as an advocate of freedom of expression?

His price will drop next season way further(last year of his contract), and we will still need to pay a sizable amount to buy the rest of his contract off(around 7M). So if we are lucky to get around 15M for him, our net profit will be around 7-8M.

Which is why we should have sold him this summer for 30M, and just paid him off. We would have still made quite some money(around 15-20M), and got a better defender in.

He will get games, each game now is going to be around 10% longer than previous games, coupled with the amount of games being played it’s like having an extra 6 games per season based off 60 games a season, including internationals. Hopefully the games he plays is in the league cup against lower teams, can’t be trusted in the Premier league or Champions league.

Not sure what West Ham offered as wages but it would be difficult to take say a 50% cut so I agree the club messed up paying out that much money on wages and incentives. The issue is, Maguire is now basically retired, who wants him after his contract expires when he’s only played a handful of games, Lingard says Hi.

He'll leave on a free when his contract eventually runs out. That's what we do here.

Hopefully fans will never have the chance to boo him, unless they fancy showing up to reserve games.

How is booing someone not an insult?
Booing is simply fans telling a player he's been shit and they're not happy with that. Good luck telling your boss he's insulting you when he tells you you're shit at your job and he's not happy with that.

Back when FDJ did this to Barcelona last season, I supported his decision to get paid the contract he signed. Can't be a hypocrite now.

Just terrible analogy all around imo.

First off, fans are not bosses. They are spectators and customers.
Secondly, they're not booing Maguire because he's playing badly, it's not based on his actual performance. They just pre-emptively boo him cause they don't like him and they've scapegoated him for United's troubles.
Thirdly, bosses are nowadays very diplomatic (thank god). They'll tell you you're not doing a good enough job, give you constructive feedback and inform you that you will miss promotions or bonuses (or appearances in the case of football). But they won't risk bullying or intimidation accusations by insulting you.
