Passing Behind The Man

dont forget about the one touch pass 15 yards backwards instead of just simply receiving on the turn with plenty of space around the player. Do these players not give a simple shout of "time" to let the player know that nobody is freaking anywhere near them? So many times we could be driving into space and attacking and instead the ball goes back 20 yards to a CB to do our pointless recycle to nowhere.

It’s unbelievable how bad we are at the basics, they need to start streaming training sessions to prove they actually do any at this point. They really should be ashamed of themselves.

Never mind passing behind the man, just string 5 passes together comfortably! No chance of controlling a game if you lose the ball every 3 passes. It's been going on a long time too. How hard can it be? Other teams in the league seem to manage it fairly easily.

No surprise this thread is from 2012! You could probably go back even further!

I still can't believe we didn't try and adapt to modern day football after being schooled by Barca in 09 and 11, and Bilbao and City in 2012.

I love RvP, and I'm glad we signed him, but it's annoying that we only relied on him to paper over the cracks after being embarrassed in Europe by Bilbao and City in the league. We should've tried to reinvent ourselves after the Barca humblings at the earliest, and the disastrous 11/12 season at the latest on top of bringing him in.

unbelievable that we've still done diddlysquat about it. Closest we got was van Gaal and he was too outdated to make a proper impact. He did help us with the basics of actually keeping the ball, though. After him, we should've brought in a manager of the same ilk with a modern take to take what van Gaal was trying to implement to the next level. Instead, we scrapped it, started from scratch again, threw possession out the window and started relying on individual brilliance again.

In a way, hiring José after van Gaal was like the RvP signing. Quick fixes instead of thinking long term.

This is starting to drive me mental, there are so many times where a break or even just a general run of play is slowed enormously by a pass being placed a few yards behind where it should be.

I mean, seriously, this is something I got to grips with in under 11's matches, if your target man is moving you have to play it in front of him, not where he's stood. It's crazy that this is ever done wrong at this level, let alone with the frequency we seem to see it.

Fix it please, somebody.
