How does it relevant where those clubs are now? Blackburn competed for a title, winning one, Newcastle also came second before settling for a mid-table place.
Owen has managed a unique feat of being unloved at every club he has ever played for. Real Madrid fans are probably the ones who think of him the fondest if they can summon up more than indifference.
His only relevance here is probably going to be hos much he can drag shearer down in the mud with him.

I know, but Arsenal was certainly bigger in 1991 than Blackburn and Man Utd certainly bigger than Newcastle in 1996. It's almost as if Shearer didn't trust/like huge clubs.
Well, I kind of like him. He scored a last minute winner against our local rivals and won a title with us.

Owen went from Real Madrid to Newcastle. Only the most delusional Geordie would believe that was a forward career move.
It was hardly Owens fault he was finished around 25. It was all due to the constant injuries he picked up when younger. He was still a great player even if his career went downhill in his peak years. What is interesting is how much Owen achieved in that time, & yet he was finished a year younger than our ever youthful Lingard, who people say give him a chance as he is still a youngster.

This says everything. He has had long career and is not loved anywhere nor do you hear any ex team mates ever say anything good about him
Not disputing that. My point was that it was always going to rub him up the wrong way. His comments have left Newcastle at the centre of ridicule.

Yeah we don't love him as we know he's a prick but we like the City goal and we like the title he won with us versus the zero titles he won with the scousers.
If he only does that, I'd say his life has been well spent. Shearer was a very good 'traditional' no.9 but a twat as a player and absolutely useless as a pundit.

Owen was fantastic in his prime. One of the best England strikers of the last quarter century.
Obviously his injury problems were not his fault, I do question his mentality though.

Shearer was a top top goalscorer. Give Shearer half a chance and he'll slot it in. He was more of a goal poacher. He had heart, strength, work rate. If Alan Shearer played today then he would be the EPL's best striker by far. Van Basten was of another level though. He had Shearer's finishing skills but technically he was of another level. Its really like comparing Cole to RVN, Gerrard to Zidane or Giggs to Ronaldo.

Shearer always struck me as someone the fans could identify with. Fans appreciated Owen's goal scoring brilliance but I'm not quite sure they ever connected with him on an emotional level. Fowler is revered by Liverpool fans. Owen struck me as someone who knew he was brilliant put played without emotion. He doesn't strike me as the most comfortable person in a social sense. Whereas Shearer is someone you could have a chat with down the pub.
Slagging off Newcastle is a bit rich considering how little he contributed in his time there and how much money he trousered.

Don't forget that Blackburn was the 'Man City project' of the early 90s. For a couple of years, they were throwing really big money after players - much, much more than Arsenal, for example. As for the 1996 transfer, didn't Fergie say that everything was agreed with Shearer (wages, no.9 shirt, taking penalties), before Jack Walker intervened and refused to sell him to United? Shearer's club choices weren't that illogical at the time.
